ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

4 complaints

Owners of the 2021 Chrysler Voyager report several electrical system issues, with a focus on acceleration and vehicle start-stop functionality. Complaints frequently mention that the vehicle fails to accelerate after rapid acceleration, with issues persisting even after battery replacements. Additionally, some owners experience the vehicle inadvertently shifting into park and shutting off after stopping, with the automatic start-stop warning light activating. Backup camera failures and problems with wired Apple CarPlay are also noted. These issues appear at varying mileages, with one report occurring at 241 miles. STEERING

3 complaints

Owners of the 2021 Chrysler Voyager report significant steering issues, with several describing the steering wheel becoming extremely stiff, making it difficult or nearly impossible to turn. Another common issue is the steering wheel sticking during or after turns, which can lead to overcompensation if not anticipated. Some owners note a vague spot in the steering, causing the vehicle to drift and requiring frequent corrections. These issues occur without any warning lights or sounds, and they pose a safety risk due to potential loss of control, especially at highway speeds. Complaints do not specify mileage ranges, but they highlight the need for careful inspection of steering components when considering a used purchase.

POWER TRAIN

2 complaints

Owners of the 2021 Chrysler Voyager report issues primarily related to rough idling and sudden power loss. Symptoms often include a persistent rough idle, engine misfires, and unexpected engine shutdowns, with one owner noting overheating and coolant loss suggestive of a head gasket failure. Another owner describes the vehicle unexpectedly losing power on the freeway, with the transmission shifting to neutral and the inability to control the car due to it automatically shifting into park. These issues are reported to occur around 50,000 to 70,000 miles, often just after warranty expiration. Safety implications include the risk of being stranded on the road without control, which could lead to potential accidents, particularly if the vehicle becomes immobilized in active traffic.

2 complaints total
UNKNOWN OR OTHER (2 complaints)

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

2 complaints

Owners of the 2021 Chrysler Voyager report issues with the rear camera and the auto stop function. One owner mentions the rear camera not working properly and the auto stop function failing twice within a year, despite previous repairs. These complaints highlight potential safety implications, particularly regarding the risk of carbon monoxide exposure in enclosed areas. Buyers should be aware of these issues, especially if considering a vehicle with a push-button start system.

Our second row seat on the passenger side has a head rest that will not fold upright and lock into place. The seat itself is useless due to the headrest not folding up correctly and is a safety hazard for anyone to sit in it. I bought this vehicle for the purpose of having all available seats to be used for our family and now we have one seat that cannot be used. No matter how many times we tried to push it up or folding the seat all the way down and then back up it still does not lock into place on the headrest. We have did research and many people have had the same issue and have not been able to get it fixed even after taking it to a repair service or dealer. This needs to be a serious recall and should be fixed if so many others have had the same issues.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent — Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good — Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed — Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky — Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
