Complaints frequently mention unresponsive controls, including the inability to adjust volume or use the rear camera properly, and some owners experience these failures shortly after purchase. Several reports highlight severe safety implications, such as loss of braking capability and unintended acceleration, which nearly result in collisions. One owner reports a fire occurring after ongoing electrical issues, while others mention that electrical malfunctions persist despite dealership interventions. These problems often occur at varied mileages and are sometimes reported as widespread by service centers.
POWER TRAIN
6 complaintsOwners report several issues with the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer's power train, primarily involving transmission failures. Complaints frequently mention the transmission failing at highway speeds, slipping, and not shifting beyond certain gears, often accompanied by high RPMs and the check engine light illuminating. These issues typically occur around or after the 60,000-mile mark, with some instances occurring as early as 16,000 miles. Safety implications are noted, with multiple owners describing situations where the vehicle became inoperable on the road, posing a risk of collision. Additionally, some reports include associated problems with the cooling system and engine overheating, indicating potential interconnected issues.
STEERING
5 complaintsOwners report recurring issues with the steering system of the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer, particularly involving warnings such as "Steering assist is reduced" and "Service Power Steering." Symptoms frequently described include heavier, less responsive steering and intermittent warning messages. These issues are noted to occur at varying mileages, with reports as early as 10,000 miles and as high as 121,000 miles. Some complaints highlight potential safety risks due to the loss of steering assist, which could impact vehicle control during turns or emergency maneuvers. Additionally, there are mentions of related electronic and thermostat issues, with some owners facing difficulties in obtaining warranty coverage for repairs.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM (3 complaints)
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
3 complaintsOwners of the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer report issues primarily related to the fuel pump control module, with symptoms including sudden engine shutdown and loss of power while driving. These problems are noted at varying mileages, with one owner specifying an occurrence at 45,000 miles. Additionally, there are reports of the accelerator sticking, leading to unintended acceleration, which owners describe as happening both on the highway and during low-speed maneuvers. While no crashes are reported, the potential for safety risks is noted, particularly concerning loss of power at high speeds and unintended acceleration. Buyers considering this model should be aware of these issues, especially given the mention of a related recall for the 2021 model not extending to the 2022 Blazer.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER (3 complaints)
UNKNOWN OR OTHER
3 complaintsSafety-relatedOwners report several issues with the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer, primarily involving sharp components and malfunctioning lift gates. One owner describes a sharp edge on the driver's door molding that led to a significant leg injury requiring stitches. Another complaint highlights a lift gate that unexpectedly closes, causing head injury and necessitating manual intervention to reopen. Additionally, during an accident, an aftermarket steering wheel emblem became dislodged when the airbag deployed, striking an occupant and embedding in the door panel. These incidents collectively suggest potential safety risks, with injuries and a crash reported, though specific mileage or timelines are not consistently mentioned by owners.
ENGINE (3 complaints)
ENGINE
3 complaintsOwners of the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer report several engine-related issues. Complaints frequently mention problems with the thermostat, leading to the engine not reaching the proper temperature, sometimes accompanied by a continuous fan and a "steering assist reduced" alert. Another common issue is a fuel pump failure, which has resulted in a complete loss of power while driving, posing significant safety risks on highways. Additionally, some owners describe radiator leaks and subsequent transmission cooler line failures, leading to fluid loss. These issues have been reported at varying mileages and can result in dangerous situations, especially when power loss occurs in high-speed traffic.
TIRES (2 complaints)
TIRES
2 complaintsOwners of the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer report premature tire wear as a common issue, with tires wearing down significantly before reaching expected mileage. Complaints frequently mention that all four tires show tread wear close to or at the wear markings, even at relatively low mileages of 15,000 to 30,600 miles. This wear is noted on both 21-inch and 18-inch tire configurations. While no crashes or loss of control incidents are reported, the early tire degradation could imply potential safety concerns if not addressed. Used car buyers should be aware of this pattern and inspect tire conditions closely, especially if the vehicle is equipped with Continental tires.
SUSPENSION (1 complaints)
SUSPENSION
1 complaintControl arm snapped on the I-71. Going 70 miles an hour when it happened. Definitely could have been a major accident but luckily no cars were around us when it happened. i rode over a bridge's transition and heard a big pop like a tire. Then it sounded and felt like we were riding on a rim. When we got out we saw what had happened. No warnings or anything before this happened.
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL (1 complaints)
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
1 complaintIncreasing speed by itself, let foot off gas pedal and gas pedal sticking, 1st time I tapped brakes and it quit. 2nd time it did not. I had to slam brakes and hokd until the point they had overheated and smell burnt and filed a separate complaint for that today. Gas pedal sticking and self accelerating. Pedal to the floor accelerating. I do not drive like that and scared the hell out of me. I bout it 5 days ago from a Chevrolet dealership. I'm tired of rip offs. Next one best be brand new and they reimburse me for outside mechanical I inspection period. Bc I trust no dealer now. Went from 7p to about 95 in 10 seconds for 10 min. Not sure what braking did bx I coukd care less about the phone whike I am trying not to hit cars in front of me literally almost jammed an 18 wheeler and moving truck with me pushing the brakes as gmhard as I could.
BACK OVER PREVENTION (1 complaints)
BACK OVER PREVENTION
1 complaintSafety-relatedI am not sure I picked the correct ADAS, however, on 3/4/23 we purchased this auto from Beck Nissian in Palatka Florida. When we purchased this auto it was a used car that had not been owned for very long. We were never told that there were factory recalls that were necessary so that all of the options this auto would work correctly. On July 14 I was in a very busy parking lot and back into a truck damaging my auto. I understand backing up is my responsibility but this auto needed a recall for the back up alert to be put on this auto. I believe if this auto had the options it was suppose to have I could of avoided this accident. This accident cost me a 600 deductible plus extra rental as I needed a larger vehicle because my husband is in a wheelchair. I truly feel that either the dealer or manufacturer should help with these expenses. I have contacted both to no avail. Your help would be appreciated.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores
Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.
Key Ranking Factors
Complaint Severity
NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.
Repair Costs
Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.
Recall Impact
Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.
Issue Diversity
Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.
Scores are grouped into four tiers:
- 80–100: Excellent— Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
- 60–79: Good— Reliable with some minor concerns
- 40–59: Mixed— Notable issues, research before buying
- 0–39: Risky— Significant problems, proceed with caution
Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
