2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Common Problems by Component
7 owner complaints grouped by vehicle system.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
6 complaintsSafety-relatedOwners of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class report several electrical system issues, with a focus on infotainment and instrument panel malfunctions. Complaints frequently mention screens freezing or going dark, loss of exterior lighting, and unresponsive controls, often occurring shortly after vehicle delivery or within the first 10 miles of driving. Additionally, multiple owners describe incidents of unintended acceleration during low-speed parking maneuvers, resulting in crashes with no prior warning signals or safety system activations. The reported mileage for these issues varies, with some occurring as early as 9,600 miles. These patterns suggest potential safety implications, particularly regarding loss of vehicle control and the failure of safety systems to engage.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER
3 complaintsOwners report several issues with the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, primarily involving electronic malfunctions and structural failures. One common problem includes the car failing to start, accompanied by multiple warning messages and an inability to shift into neutral, which resolves temporarily after several hours. This issue persists despite software updates, as noted by an owner experiencing it three times, with the last occurrence on October 20th. Another owner expresses concern over potential recall exclusions related to battery issues or fire risks, although no direct incidents are reported. Additionally, a separate incident describes a panoramic sunroof spontaneously shattering while driving at approximately 50-55 mph, with the interior sunshield preventing glass from entering the vehicle. These complaints highlight potential safety implications, particularly with electronic failures and unexpected structural breakages.
WHEELS
2 complaintsOwners report issues with the Pirelli tires on the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, specifically noting the development of bubbles on the sidewalls, which leads to air leakage and flat tires. Complaints frequently mention that the tires appear unable to support the vehicle's weight, with one owner experiencing five flat tires within 40 days of ownership. The symptoms typically include loss of air pressure and sidewall bubbles, sometimes following minor impacts such as hitting a 2-inch pothole. Safety implications are noted, as one owner describes a near-collision due to sudden tire deflation. This information suggests potential concerns for used car buyers regarding the suitability of the factory-installed tires for this vehicle.
SEATS (1 complaints)
SEATS
1 complaintOn Thursday September 12, 2024, I took my vehicle into the Mercedes Benz of Novi dealership located at 39500 Grand River Avenue in Novi, Michigan to have them diagnose and repair the passenger seat due to the seat bouncing, vibrating and rattling while driving the vehicle. Technicians from dealership took the car out and they noted the passenger seat bounced and vibrated as they were driving the vehicle out for the test drive. Technicians from the dealer stated "there cannot be anything done for the vehicle and to call the manufacturer's Customer Care number." While standing in at the service desk at the dealership, I called the Customer Care number (1-800-367-6372) and documented this issue, and the dealer's response, under Case #[XXX]. The Customer Care representative heard the technicians response and included it in case number noted above (see attached) On Monday, September 16th, the dealership contacted me and advised me to bring the vehicle back in to diagnose the same issue. The vehicle was taken back in on Tuesday September 17th. Upon picking up the vehicle on Tuesday September 17th, I was told that all the vehicles of this particular year, make and model has the same problem and that there is nothing they can do about it. I believe this is an extreme occupant safety concern and should be addressed by the manufacturer. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
EXTERIOR LIGHTING (1 complaints)
EXTERIOR LIGHTING
1 complaintThe master central screen as well as the passenger screen that contains all features for radio, navigation, control of reading road signs, climate control and the like go BLACK randomly during the four weeks I have owned the 2024 E Class Mercedes. It will reboot after 2-5 minutes with no lost data. Dealer in Cherry Hill, NJ did major software update not completed at time of purchase. But incident happened after two weeks. Others with this make, year and model have same situations with dealerships not knowing anything. Supposedly, Mercedes knows but a solution may be three months or more. This is a safety issue as if happens at night, you lose all connections even to the cell phone and no speed sign indicator on. You cannot see anything but the driver screen with just the speed you are doing. Cruise control disengages which is using all security systems and navigation map.
SUSPENSION (1 complaints)
SUSPENSION
1 complaintI’ve been hearing a creaking noise in the rear when coming to a stop. Independent mechanic inspected it and said the subframe was severely rusted and that I probably should not drive long distances until it is fixed. They researched and said others have had similar issue. Mercedes apparently is aware and offers an “extended warranty.” I have an appointment in two weeks (!) to have it looked at by a Mercedes mechanic. They will pay for the repair/replacement IF warranted. Should be a recall, IMO. Can’t imagine that the part in question, which according to my mechanic, “essentially holds the back of the car together” wouldn’t be an immediate recall. Car has 120k miles on it.

1 complaintThe contact owns a 2024 Mercedes-Benz E450. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the "Active Emergency Assistance Imperative" message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that a software update was required. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who then diagnosed a failure with the power steering control module (PSCM). The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was then taken back to the dealer, who replaced the steering wheel. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 50.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores
Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.
Key Ranking Factors
Complaint Severity
NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.
Repair Costs
Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.
Recall Impact
Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.
Issue Diversity
Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.
Scores are grouped into four tiers:
- 80–100: Excellent— Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
- 60–79: Good— Reliable with some minor concerns
- 40–59: Mixed— Notable issues, research before buying
- 0–39: Risky— Significant problems, proceed with caution
Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
Get notified when new recalls or reliability data is added for the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
