POWER TRAIN

42 complaints

Owners report that the 2023 Chrysler Pacifica frequently experiences sudden loss of engine power while driving, often accompanied by dashboard warnings such as "Stop Safely Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon" and the check engine light. These incidents typically occur at highway speeds, posing significant safety risks as the vehicle slows rapidly, leaving drivers to navigate to the shoulder without power. Complaints often mention mileage as low as 1,000 miles, with some vehicles requiring transmission replacements after multiple occurrences. Additionally, several owners describe issues with the vehicle rolling away when parked, even when the gear shifter is set to reverse. These patterns suggest potential safety hazards, especially during high-speed travel or when parked on inclines.

42 complaints total

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

30 complaints

Owners report frequent issues with the 2023 Chrysler Pacifica's electrical system, primarily involving the vehicle unexpectedly entering "limp mode" or displaying a "Stop Safely, Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon" warning. Typical symptoms include a red turtle warning light, loss of power, speed limitations, and various dashboard warning lights such as check engine and ABS. These issues often occur at varying mileages, with some incidents reported as early as 1,600 miles. Safety concerns are evident, as multiple complaints describe near-miss accidents and the inability to maintain highway speeds, posing risks during high-speed travel. Buyers should be aware of these recurring electrical issues and potential safety implications when considering this vehicle.

AIR BAGS

26 complaintsSafety-related

Owners of the 2023 Chrysler Pacifica frequently report issues related to a recall involving the side curtain airbags, where the parts for repair are unavailable, causing delays. Many complaints note the airbag warning light illuminating intermittently, but no airbag deployment failures are reported except in one instance where airbags did not deploy during a collision with a deer. The complaints span a range of timelines, with some owners mentioning ongoing issues since May 2025. Safety concerns are heightened due to the potential risk of inadequate airbag pressure retention, which may lead to reduced occupant protection in a crash. This pattern of unresolved recall repairs and airbag warning lights may be important for used car buyers to consider.

ENGINE (16 complaints)

ENGINE

16 complaints

Owners of the 2023 Chrysler Pacifica frequently report issues with the vehicle unexpectedly losing power and displaying warnings such as "Stop Safely, Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon," often while driving at highway speeds. These incidents are commonly accompanied by the illumination of the check engine light and sometimes include a burning odor in the cabin. Complaints often occur at mileage ranges from as low as 42 miles to over 28,000 miles, indicating the issue can manifest early in the vehicle's life. Safety implications are significant, with several owners describing dangerous situations where they had to maneuver the vehicle to the roadside without power, sometimes in heavy traffic or near train tracks. Some complaints also reference a potential link to known issues in previous model years, which may be relevant for prospective buyers considering the vehicle's reliability history.

16 complaints total
UNKNOWN OR OTHER (11 complaints)

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

11 complaints

Owners of the 2023 Chrysler Pacifica frequently report issues with sudden loss of power, often accompanied by warnings such as "Stop Safely, Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon" or a "turtle" symbol indicating reduced power mode. These incidents typically occur shortly after purchase, sometimes within the first few days or weeks, and can happen at various speeds, including highway driving. The sudden loss of propulsion presents safety implications, as drivers are unable to maintain speed or safely exit the roadway, posing a risk in traffic. Additionally, there are concerns about motorized doors lacking safety features, which might not stop when obstructed. These patterns suggest potential reliability issues that prospective buyers should consider, especially regarding the vehicle's powertrain and electronic systems.

STEERING (9 complaints)

STEERING

9 complaints

Owners report multiple steering-related issues with the 2023 Chrysler Pacifica. Common complaints include a locked steering wheel when shifting into Reverse without pressing the brake, and sudden loss of power steering accompanied by dashboard alerts stating "Power Steering Unavailable Service Required." These issues often occur at various mileages, with some incidents happening shortly after purchase. Safety implications are significant, as the loss of steering control can make the vehicle difficult to maneuver, posing a risk of accidents, especially at high speeds or in traffic. Buyers should be aware of these potential issues, particularly if considering a used model.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent — Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good — Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed — Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky — Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
