POWER TRAIN

19 complaints

Owners report frequent issues with the 2024 Chrysler Pacifica's power train, particularly involving sudden engine shutdowns that occur without sufficient warning. Typical symptoms include the vehicle displaying a "Stop Safely Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon" message, followed by an immediate loss of power, often leaving the vehicle stranded in traffic. These issues are reported at low mileages, often within the first few thousand miles of ownership. Safety implications are significant, with multiple owners describing dangerous situations where the vehicle loses power in high-speed or congested traffic, posing a risk of accidents. Additionally, some owners mention transmission problems, such as delayed gear shifting and failure to shift into park, which can lead to rollaway hazards.

ENGINE

7 complaints

Owners report that the 2024 Chrysler Pacifica experiences sudden engine shutdowns while driving, often accompanied by a warning message stating "Stop Safely, Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon." This issue is frequently noted at various speeds and in different driving conditions, with some instances occurring as early as 8,000 to 12,791 miles. Symptoms commonly include the illumination of the check engine light and a temporary inability to restart the vehicle. Multiple reports highlight safety concerns due to the vehicle stalling in traffic or on busy roads, posing a risk of rear-end collisions. AIR BAGS (5 complaints)

AIR BAGS

5 complaints

Owners of the 2024 Chrysler Pacifica frequently report delays in obtaining parts needed for a side curtain airbag recall repair. Complaints consistently mention that the parts required for the recall are unavailable, leading to extended wait times that exceed what owners consider reasonable. No specific mileage is associated with these complaints, as they largely revolve around the recall process rather than direct airbag failures. Some owners express safety concerns due to the unresolved recall, though no incidents of crashes or airbag deployment failures are reported. Additionally, one owner notes a separate issue with a non-functional rear seatbelt, potentially related to prior vehicle damage, which may be a consideration for buyers evaluating used models.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER (4 complaints)

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

4 complaintsSafety-related

Owners of the 2024 Chrysler Pacifica report several issues related to vehicle shutdowns and component failures. Multiple complaints describe the "Stop Safely Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon" warning, leading to sudden vehicle shutdowns shortly after purchase, often within the first few miles of use. Another commonly reported issue involves the headliner AC vent cover detaching and striking passengers. Additionally, one complaint details a crash involving steering and traction control failure, where the vehicle abruptly lost control, although no airbags deployed. These issues highlight potential safety implications, particularly with unexpected shutdowns and loss of vehicle control.

4 complaints total1 crash
STEERING (3 complaints)

STEERING

3 complaints

Owners report two main steering-related issues with the 2024 Chrysler Pacifica. The first issue involves a sudden loss of power while driving, leaving the vehicle immobilized and in a dangerous position, with warning lights such as the engine and battery indicators activating. This has been observed even with sufficient fuel levels and can reset without warning. The second issue, noted by multiple owners with vehicles around 9,600 miles, involves a steering dead zone between 11 and 1 o'clock on the wheel, causing delayed responsiveness and subsequent jerking. This can lead to discomfort and potential loss of control, especially in adverse weather. These problems are significant as they can pose safety risks, including potential collisions or loss of vehicle control.

3 complaints total
SERVICE BRAKES (2 complaints)

SERVICE BRAKES

2 complaints

Owners of the 2024 Chrysler Pacifica report issues with the service brakes, particularly involving the electronic parking brake and power loss. One complaint describes intermittent loss of power steering and braking, leading to a complete inability to accelerate or stop safely. Another owner reports the electronic parking brake engaging unexpectedly on a new vehicle with only a few hundred miles, requiring a battery disconnect to resolve, and experiencing repeated activation of the SafeHold feature, which shifts the vehicle into park and engages the parking brake without warning. These issues occur at low mileage and pose potential safety risks, as they involve loss of control and occur in traffic situations.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE (2 complaints)

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

2 complaints

Owners of the 2024 Chrysler Pacifica report issues with the forward collision avoidance system, particularly involving the automatic emergency braking (AEB) and adaptive cruise control (ACC). Common symptoms include unexpected deactivation of the cruise control and erroneous activation of the braking system, causing abrupt stops. These issues are reported at low mileage, around 800 miles, and shortly after purchase. Safety implications are noted, as one owner describes the vehicle pulling to the left and stopping unexpectedly, while another mentions abrupt braking at highway speeds. These patterns suggest potential reliability concerns for buyers considering this vehicle model.

We were rear ended on the highway, the driver seat broke a part came off and the back of the seat went back instead of staying upright. I’m not sure where the vehicle is after we released it to the insurance company on 09-11-24 The driver has back pain and the back of the seat didn’t stay where it should have. I’m not sure we haven’t talked to the dealership just a mechanic. The insurance company had an adjuster look at it and deemed it a total loss. No there was no warnings or any.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent — Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good — Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed — Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky — Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
