As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Consequence

A rearview camera that does not display an image can reduce the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will update the touchscreen software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 3, 2025. Owners may contact Land Rover's customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is N972.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

5 complaints

Owners of the 2024 Land Rover Defender 110 frequently report issues with the DC/DC converter, leading to a failure of the 12-volt battery system. Typical symptoms include dashboard warnings of electrical faults, followed by a rapid loss of vehicle power, affecting critical systems such as power steering and braking assist. These failures often result in the vehicle becoming inoperable, sometimes while in motion, creating potential safety risks. Complaints note that these issues can occur at various mileage points, with one owner experiencing problems at 13,800 miles. Additionally, some owners mention problems with the display screen not functioning and the driver display dimming inappropriately, affecting visibility. These patterns suggest potential concerns for prospective buyers regarding the reliability of the electrical system.

STEERING

5 complaintsSafety-related

Owners of the 2024 Land Rover Defender 110 frequently report issues with the steering system, often linked to electrical faults. Multiple complaints describe sudden power steering failure, with some drivers experiencing this at highway speeds, which compromises vehicle control and safety. Symptoms include the steering wheel becoming difficult or impossible to turn, and in some cases, the vehicle switching to neutral and becoming immobile. One report involves a fire, although it lacks clear connection to the steering issues. These problems are noted to occur both while the vehicle is stationary and in motion, with some incidents leading to the vehicle being unable to start or move. This pattern of failures appears to be widespread and recurring, with some owners indicating that these issues have persisted since earlier models.

BACK OVER PREVENTION

2 complaints

Owners report issues with the infotainment screen in the 2024 Land Rover Defender 110, particularly affecting the backup camera functionality. Complaints frequently mention that the screen intermittently fails to power on, leaving the rear backup camera and sensors inoperative, which can impact visibility while reversing. Attempts to restart the system by cycling the vehicle power or using the infotainment power button are often ineffective, with some owners noting the screen only resumes function after the vehicle is off for an extended period. These issues are noted without any specific mileage range or timeline. The lack of a functioning backup camera and sensors may pose safety concerns, as it reduces rear visibility and obstacle detection.

The main display screen will randomly not turn on upon startup of the vehicle. This prevents me from using the reverse camera, parking aids or any other functions or driving aids that are accessed through the screen. Turning off the vehicle and / or restarting the screen does not fix the issue...the screen will just randomly start working or stop working. This might happen 2 or 3 times per day and then may not happen for a month. In my 6 months of ownership it has happen more than 15 times. Others in the online forums are experiencing this problem and I feel this is a safety issue.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent— Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good— Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed— Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky— Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.

Get notified when new recalls or reliability data is added for the Land Rover Defender 110.
