    ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

    20 complaintsSafety-related

Owners of the 2022 Land Rover Defender 110 frequently report issues with the DC to DC converter, which often leads to complete vehicle shutdowns and inoperability. Symptoms commonly described include loss of electrical power, warning messages like "Stop Safely Electrical Fault Detected," and an inability to restart the vehicle without external assistance. These problems typically arise at various mileage points, with some occurring as early as 1,750 miles. Safety implications are significant, with one crash reported due to an automatic emergency braking system activation and another incident involving a sudden stop while driving. Buyers should be aware that parts for these repairs are often on backorder, leading to extended vehicle downtime.

    VISIBILITY/WIPER

    12 complaints

Owners of the 2022 Land Rover Defender 110 frequently report spontaneous windshield cracking without any apparent impact or damage. Complaints often describe cracks originating from the top or bottom of the windshield, sometimes occurring while the vehicle is parked or being washed, and in some cases, associated with temperature changes. Many of these reports involve vehicles with relatively low mileage, often within the first few months of ownership. The cracking can obstruct visibility, but no crashes or injuries are reported. Potential buyers should be aware of these issues, particularly given the potential cost implications of repeated windshield replacements.

    12 complaints total

    EXTERIOR LIGHTING

    7 complaints

Owners of the 2022 Land Rover Defender 110 report frequent failures of the daytime running lights (DRLs), with issues typically arising within the first 28,000 miles. Complaints consistently describe the DRLs burning out, necessitating the replacement of the entire headlight assembly at a cost of $3,000 to $5,000. Several owners note that the problem is exacerbated by the LED assembly overheating, leading to premature burnout. Additionally, one report describes a unique issue where rear taillights extinguish when exposed to bright light, requiring a vehicle restart to function again. These lighting failures are often cited as safety concerns due to reduced vehicle visibility, particularly during regular driving conditions.

    UNKNOWN OR OTHER (7 complaints)

    UNKNOWN OR OTHER

    7 complaints

Owners report frequent issues with the windshields of the 2022 Land Rover Defender 110, with multiple complaints of spontaneous cracking. Many describe cracks appearing without any noticeable impact, often while the vehicle is stationary or after minor pebble strikes. These incidents typically occur shortly after purchase, with some owners experiencing multiple replacements within a few months. Several reports highlight the potential for safety concerns, as windshield integrity is crucial for vehicle structural strength, particularly in rollovers. Additionally, one owner notes a prolonged vehicle downtime due to a DC-DC power converter failure, with the part on indefinite backorder.

    7 complaints total
    STEERING (4 complaints)

    STEERING

    4 complaints

Owners report issues with the power steering system in the 2022 Land Rover Defender 110, particularly after the vehicle has been unused for extended periods. Complaints frequently mention the steering wheel becoming unresponsive upon starting the vehicle, often accompanied by a "lane assist not available" message. These problems typically occur when the vehicle is stationary, with some owners expressing concern about potential steering failures while driving. The issues are not consistently resolved by service visits, and no specific mileage range is indicated. While no crashes or loss of control have been reported, the inability to steer could pose a safety risk if it were to occur while the vehicle is in motion.

    4 complaints total
    POWER TRAIN (3 complaints)

    POWER TRAIN

    3 complaints

Owners of the 2022 Land Rover Defender 110 report experiencing power train issues primarily related to the vehicle's electrical and transmission systems. Common symptoms include the vehicle stalling at traffic lights when the auto stop/start function is engaged and sudden, complete loss of power while driving, even at highway speeds. Mileage or specific durations of ownership are not consistently mentioned, but issues have been reported within weeks of ownership. Safety implications are significant, as the sudden loss of power can occur without warning, posing a risk of crashes or leaving drivers stranded in traffic. The problems are often linked to the dc to dc converter, with repairs taking extended periods due to parts availability, leaving some owners without transportation.

    STRUCTURE (2 complaints)

    STRUCTURE

    2 complaints

Owners report recurring issues with the driver-side A-pillar trim pieces detaching from the 2022 Land Rover Defender 110 at highway speeds. Complaints frequently mention the trim pieces falling off, with one instance resulting in a piece striking another vehicle, indicating a potential safety hazard. The problem typically reoccurs shortly after initial repairs, often within a month, as described by multiple owners. This issue can lead to sudden detachment of approximately 20-inch body parts, requiring immediate attention to avoid road hazards. Buyers considering this vehicle should be aware of this structural concern, particularly if the vehicle has been driven at high speeds.

    LANE DEPARTURE (1 complaints)

    LANE DEPARTURE

    1 complaint
    2021-08-01

Regarding the lane departure feature, there has been a number of occurrences while operating the vehicle during daylight conditions where the system erroneously triggers causing the active steering system to engage and induce swerving. No recalls or service bulletins by the dealer have been posted regarding this issue and no system warning indications have been present. More than likely, misreadings by the vehicle’s sensors during less than ideal optical conditions could be the root cause. Regarding the parking collision system and more specifically, the onboard cameras (front and rear) on the vehicle, the visual output of these is distorted when viewing using the onboard display. Distorted here implies a fisheye lens type or effect which makes it extremely difficult to gauge distance and accuracy of vehicle track when parking or navigating tight spaces. Additionally, the rear parking camera suffers from very poor resolution during night conditions rendering it useless. These concerns were raised via the local dealer after initial purchase of the vehicle, however, no relevant technical service bulletins or recalls were discovered.

    How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

    Key Ranking Factors

    1

    Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

    2

    Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

    3

    Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

    4

    Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

    • 80–100: Excellent— Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
    • 60–79: Good— Reliable with some minor concerns
    • 40–59: Mixed— Notable issues, research before buying
    • 0–39: Risky— Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.

Get notified when new recalls or reliability data is added for the Land Rover Defender 110.

No spam. Only data updates for this model.
