STEERING

3 complaintsSafety-related

Owners report that the 2024 Jeep Gladiator experiences significant steering issues, with multiple complaints highlighting a severe "death wobble" at speeds over 55 mph, causing the vehicle to vibrate violently and making it difficult to maintain control. One report describes the vehicle pulling to the left despite the steering wheel being held straight, which led to a loss of control and an accident. Additionally, a separate incident involves a fire originating from the front passenger side under the hood shortly after parking. These issues, particularly the loss of control and fire, present significant safety implications for potential buyers.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

3 complaintsSafety-related

Owners of the 2024 Jeep Gladiator report several significant issues, primarily involving electrical malfunctions and a fire incident. Multiple reports describe the head unit becoming inoperable, affecting radio, climate control, and the back-up camera, which typically resolves after a 30-minute vehicle shutdown. Another common issue involves the vehicle unexpectedly shutting off while driving, leading to a complete loss of electrical systems, brakes, and steering, with one owner detailing repeated occurrences and temporary resolution by disconnecting the battery. Additionally, a fire under the hood, resulting in a total vehicle loss, is reported following a recent battery replacement. These issues present serious safety implications, including potential loss of vehicle control and fire hazards, which are crucial considerations for prospective buyers.

Owners of the 2024 Jeep Gladiator report issues related to unexpected acceleration and problems with the adaptive cruise control system. One complaint describes the vehicle accelerating to approximately 25 MPH without the accelerator being pressed when shifting into first gear, occurring around 11,000 miles. Another owner reports the adaptive cruise control failing to disengage when braking, leading to a near-collision at an intersection, also at approximately 11,000 miles. These incidents suggest potential safety implications due to unintended vehicle movement and inadequate braking response. Buyers should be aware of these issues, particularly in vehicles around the 11,000-mile mark.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM (2 complaints)

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

2 complaints

Owners report issues with the 2024 Jeep Gladiator's electrical system, specifically involving the infotainment and power systems. Complaints frequently mention that the infotainment system displays persistent warning messages that obstruct access to navigation and essential controls, with problems beginning around 3,000 miles. Another reported issue involves the alternator failing at approximately 20,000 miles, leading to firm steering, illuminated warning lights, and overheating. The vehicle is still new and has not been taken offroad other than a few boring unpaved roads. It has never hit any significant pothole. The tires still have the original OEM tire pressure, I have never removed or added air to them. At the time of the incident the tire pressure was 39psi and the temperature outside was about 80F. I was driving on the highway at about 75mph with cruise control. I started feeling a strange slight lateral instability then we heard a strong noise and we thought we had a helicopter on top of us or maybe that something else was loose in the car. As I was stopping in the shoulder it became clear that it was a tire problem as we saw pieces of tire flying off. Thankfully we were able to stop safely. Then it became clear what happened: the tire external sidewall just exploded with absolutely no reason. There was no pothole, no sudden braking or cornering. It just decided to explode. The car behaved very well given the gravity of the situation, but I lost trust in the Bridgestone Dueler H/T 245/75R17 tires that came with it. I'm no tire expert, but the broken tire sidewall construction seems very flimsy to me. This tire has no steel on the sidewall and it looks like the polyester threads is not appropriate and may even be missing in some areas. I took a large number of photos to what is left of the tire.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent — Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good — Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed — Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky — Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
