2024 Honda Passport Common Problems by Component
12 owner complaints grouped by vehicle system.
SERVICE BRAKES
4 complaintsOwners report issues with the brake rotors of the 2024 Honda Passport, with some experiencing problems as early as 250 miles. Multiple complaints describe sudden, unexpected hard braking at highway speeds, causing the vehicle to come to an abrupt stop without warning or driver input, even when no other vehicles are nearby. This has occurred at mileages around 3,400 to 4,300 miles. Additionally, owners mention warning lights activating without apparent cause, and one report includes a misfire and leaking manifold and gasket. These issues raise safety concerns due to the potential for sudden loss of vehicle control.
STEERING
2 complaintsSafety-relatedOwners of the 2024 Honda Passport report issues with the steering and braking systems, often accompanied by vehicle stalling. Complaints describe malfunctions that lead to crashes, with both incidents occurring around December 20th, 2024, and resulting in injuries. These issues reportedly begin around 10,000 miles, following initial vehicle maintenance. Symptoms include multiple system warning lights and unresolved mechanical problems despite dealership inspections. Safety implications are significant, with loss of vehicle control being a primary concern.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
2 complaintsOwners of the 2024 Honda Passport report issues with the electrical system, specifically involving the auto engine idle stop feature and turn signal sound. One complaint describes the engine failing to restart at a red light due to the auto idle stop, rendering the vehicle immobile until the battery is jumped, despite diagnostic tests showing no electrical faults. Another complaint highlights the lack of audible feedback from the turn signal and emergency flasher, which cannot be adjusted, potentially leading to communication issues with other drivers. These issues are reported with no specific mileage mentioned, but they suggest potential safety implications, such as immobilization at intersections and unclear signaling intentions.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores
Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.
Key Ranking Factors
Complaint Severity
NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.
Repair Costs
Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.
Recall Impact
Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.
Issue Diversity
Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.
Scores are grouped into four tiers:
- 80–100: Excellent — Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
- 60–79: Good — Reliable with some minor concerns
- 40–59: Mixed — Notable issues, research before buying
- 0–39: Risky — Significant problems, proceed with caution
Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
