65 complaintsSafety-related

Owners of the 2025 Chevrolet Traverse frequently report issues with the brake system, often involving the failure of the master cylinder. Common symptoms include illuminated warning lights for ABS, traction control, and brake assist, as well as a spongy or unresponsive brake pedal. These issues typically emerge at low mileages, often between 2,000 and 10,000 miles. Some complaints also describe phantom braking and emergency braking activation without cause. Safety implications are significant, with reports of brake failures leading to crashes and instances where the vehicle unexpectedly decelerates or stops. Buyers should be aware of potential backorders for replacement parts, which can delay repairs.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

28 complaintsSafety-related

Owners of the 2025 Chevrolet Traverse frequently report issues related to the electrical system, primarily affecting the braking system and vehicle connectivity features. Common symptoms include dashboard warning lights for Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Automatic Emergency Braking, as well as failures in the master cylinder and brake control module, often resulting in loss of braking capability. Additionally, multiple complaints describe inoperative GPS and OnStar systems, with parts often on backorder, leaving these features unavailable for extended periods. POWER TRAIN

10 complaints

Owners of the 2025 Chevrolet Traverse frequently report issues with the power train, particularly involving transmission failures. Common symptoms include erratic shifting, gear hesitation, transmission fluid leaks, and sudden loss of power, often accompanied by high RPMs and warning lights. These problems typically emerge at low mileages, with several complaints noting issues appearing between 1,700 and 4,000 miles. Safety implications are significant, as multiple owners describe scenarios where the vehicle loses power on highways, posing risks of collisions due to difficulty in maintaining control. Buyers should be aware of potential delays in repair due to parts backorders, which several owners have experienced.

STRUCTURE (7 complaints)

STRUCTURE

7 complaints

Owners of the 2025 Chevrolet Traverse frequently report issues with the vehicle's "shark fin" antenna cover detaching while driving, posing a risk of flying debris to other vehicles and pedestrians. Many complaints suggest that the antenna cover is not securely attached, as it often detaches without warning and without prior damage, even in vehicles that are hand-washed. This problem appears to be common among recent models, as owners mention similar experiences in online forums. Additionally, a separate issue involves door panels vibrating significantly when driving at higher speeds with certain window configurations, and another complaint details a faulty door latch that can prevent the door from opening. Safety implications include potential hazards from flying debris due to the antenna issue, though no crashes or injuries are reported.

7 complaints total
UNKNOWN OR OTHER (5 complaints)

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

5 complaints

Owners report issues with the roof-mounted antenna detaching from the 2025 Chevrolet Traverse, particularly during normal use or while in a car wash. This problem appears common among this model year, with some vehicles having mileage around 7,500. Additionally, multiple owners describe failures in the Onstar telematics control module, resulting in loss of connectivity, GPS inaccuracies, and unavailability of certain vehicle features, with parts often on back order. A separate complaint highlights a potential master cylinder malfunction, leading to brake assist and electronic stability control failures, causing the brake pedal to go to the floor and resulting in a complete loss of braking power. These issues present potential safety hazards, such as loss of vehicle control and risks to other road users from detached components.

5 complaints total
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL (4 complaints)

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

4 complaints

Owners of the 2025 Chevrolet Traverse report recurring issues with the vehicle's braking and speed control systems, often accompanied by dashboard warning lights for the brake, ABS, forward collision, and traction control systems. These symptoms typically appear when the vehicle is in motion or upon startup, with some owners noting a loss of braking effectiveness and the need to press harder on the brake pedal. Complaints frequently mention that these issues occur within the first few months of ownership, with vehicles having as few as 3,900 miles. Safety implications are noted by owners who express concern about the potential for braking failures. Multiple reports highlight a problem with the master brake cylinder, which is often on backorder, leading to extended service times and vehicle downtime.

4 complaints total

The contact owns a 2025 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that immediately after purchasing the vehicle, the vehicle experienced several electrical failures, including the On-Star module malfunctioning. The On-Star module was replaced twice. During the failures, the cruise control feature became inoperable, and the computer updates were not received. Additionally, the battery became drained several times, and the vehicle needed to be jump-started. The contact also indicated the shark fin antenna had ejected from the vehicle while driving. The vehicle also abruptly stopped while driving on several occasions, and while driving, there was an abnormal metallic scraping sound coming from the engine compartment. The radiator hose had failed, causing coolant to leak from the vehicle. The hose was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 44,000.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent — Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good — Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed — Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky — Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
