Owners report several issues with the 2025 Honda HR-V, particularly involving the sunroof and paint. Multiple complaints describe the sunroof unexpectedly exploding while driving, with no external impact or debris involved, suggesting a potential pattern of failure. Additionally, there are reports of paint peeling on vehicles with low mileage, particularly in the Crystal Black Pearl color, with owners noting that environmental factors do not seem to affect other vehicles under similar conditions. Some owners also mention persistent warning lights for safety features and sensors, which dealers have been unable to resolve. These issues occur at varying mileages, often within the first year of ownership, and while no accidents are reported, the sunroof and safety sensor problems may pose potential safety risks.

STEERING

7 complaintsSafety-related

Owners of the 2025 Honda HR-V frequently report issues related to a steering recall, identified as 24V744000, with a significant delay in the availability of parts for repair. Complaints commonly describe a lack of steering responsiveness, with one report involving a crash where the steering wheel failed to turn, resulting in an injury to another driver. Several owners mention abnormal sounds or rough driving experiences, particularly at lower mileages around 4,000 miles. The recurring theme across complaints is a parts distribution disconnect, leading to extended wait times for repairs, which poses potential safety risks for those experiencing steering issues. This information may be pertinent for potential buyers considering the vehicle's current recall status and its impact on steering safety.

SERVICE BRAKES

2 complaints

Owners of the 2025 Honda HR-V report issues with the emergency braking system and pedal placement. One complaint describes the emergency braking system engaging unexpectedly at highway speeds without any apparent obstacles, occurring twice within a short time frame, with the vehicle having less than 10,000 miles. Another owner reports the brake and accelerator pedals being extremely close, causing their foot to become stuck between them, leading to a temporary loss of control, with this issue occurring at approximately 10 miles. These reports raise safety implications, particularly concerning sudden braking at high speeds and potential pedal entrapment, which could lead to loss of vehicle control.

I purchased my car in December 26, 2024 brand new. in January 2025 I had a rock hit my windshield which caused a crack. I had it replaced. Then in June and another rock hit my windshield, which caused another crack, and that windshield was replaced again on August 6, 2025. Within 3 weeks of having it replaced a small piece of gravel hit the windshield causing another crack which I have not replaced yet. Since the last crack, I now have an additional crack cause by another small piece of gravel. I contacted the Honda dealer to which they said "sorry you just have bad luck" I have also filed a complaint with Honda customer service. I've done a little digging, and this seems to be a trend with the new 2025 HR-V body style. I'm concerned that if the windshield is this easy to break with small gravel what would happen if something larger was to hit the windshield? it could potentially lead to serious injury. In my uploaded pictures I have photos of current damage, and my first invoice from January. if needed I can obtain the invoice from the second repair in August. the pictures I've uploaded happened after the August 6th 2025 repair.

While parking my car and going under 20 mph, my car suddenly accelerated. My foot was not on the brake or the accelerator when this occurred. I was forced to slam my brake to prevent myself from hitting the curb in front of me . This has happened twice, both in the process of turning to park and going under 20 mph. My cruise control was not on at the time. I have taken my car to Honda to investigate and they were unable to replicate the issue.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent — Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good — Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed — Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky — Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
