2023 Cadillac XT5 Recall Details

4 recalls have been issued for the 2023 Cadillac XT5. All recall repairs are performed free of charge at authorized dealerships.

24V4590002024-06-20

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2023-2025 Cadillac XT5 and 2024-2025 Cadillac XT6 vehicles. The instrument panel may not illuminate when the hazard warning lights, high beams, or turn signals are activated. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 101, "Controls and Displays" and 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Assoc. Equipment."

Consequence

Without the illuminated reminder, the driver could fail to turn off the lights when no longer needed. Hazard warning lights, high beams, or turn signals that remain activated unintentionally can confuse other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will update the instrument panel software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 13, 2024. Owners may contact Cadillac's customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is N242447940.

23V1720002023-03-16

POWER TRAIN

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2023 Cadillac XT6, GMC Acadia, Chevrolet Blazer, Traverse, and 2022-2023 Cadillac XT5 vehicles. The transmission may have been built with an incorrect sun gear, which can result in the driver-side half-shaft disengaging from the transmission.

Consequence

A half-shaft disengaging from the transmission can result in a loss of drive power or vehicle rollaway when the vehicle is placed in park. Either of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will replace the sun gears, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2023. The remedy is expected to become available August 31, 2023. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GMC's number for this recall is N222389310.

23V0430002023-02-02

POWER TRAIN

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2023 Cadillac XT5 and GMC Acadia vehicles. The right-front half-shaft assemblies may be improperly connected to the transmission, causing them to separate.

Consequence

Separation between the half-shaft and transmission can result in a loss of drive power or vehicle rollaway when the vehicle is placed in park. Either of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will replace the right-front half-shaft assemblies, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 17, 2023. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N222393410.

POWER TRAIN

4 complaints

Owners of the 2023 Cadillac XT5 frequently report issues related to the power train, with symptoms including shuddering or vibrating, particularly between gears 3 and 4, and complete loss of power while driving. These problems are noted at various mileage intervals, with some occurring as early as 147 miles. Multiple complaints describe instances where the vehicle becomes unresponsive to throttle input, sometimes accompanied by a grinding noise, and in some cases, the left front axle disconnects from the transmission. Safety implications are significant, as these issues can lead to sudden loss of power and control, posing a risk during driving. Buyers should be aware of these recurring problems, especially in vehicles built between September and October 2022, which may be subject to specific technical bulletins regarding transmission and axle replacements.

4 complaints total

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

3 complaints

Owners report issues with the 2023 Cadillac XT5's rear camera system, specifically noting faint backup camera grid lines and slow transitions from night to day mode. These issues are described as safety concerns, as they impair visibility when reversing, particularly in low-light conditions or when transitioning from a garage to daylight. Complaints highlight that the rear camera's image can be unreadable, especially when wearing sunglasses, and the transition delay can last 15-20 seconds. Additionally, there is a report of the front half of the sunroof exploding while driving, posing a safety risk from falling glass. The vehicle mileage mentioned in these complaints ranges from 19,800 miles to being only a month old, indicating issues can arise relatively early in ownership.

3 complaints total

ENGINE

2 complaints

Owners of the 2023 Cadillac XT5 report issues related to engine performance, with symptoms including vehicle shaking and loud engine noises regardless of speed, as well as a burnt rubber smell. One owner notes that the engine's RPMs increase and become stuck when driving downhill, while another mentions vibrations occurring when the engine shifts from 6 to 4 cylinders. These issues are reported at mileage around 30,859. While no crashes, fires, or loss of control are reported, one owner expresses concern for potential safety risks. Buyers considering a used model may find these symptoms relevant, especially if the vehicle has undergone multiple service visits without resolution.

BACK OVER PREVENTION (2 complaints)

BACK OVER PREVENTION

2 complaints

Owners of the 2023 Cadillac XT5 report issues with the backup camera, specifically noting that the camera screen can turn dark or display a black screen while reversing. Additionally, when the camera functions, the image may appear dim, making it difficult to see. These issues are reported at low mileage, around 15 to 300 miles. No crashes or safety incidents are mentioned, but the visibility problems could affect the driver's ability to safely maneuver the vehicle in reverse.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent— Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good— Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed— Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky— Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.

Get notified when new recalls or reliability data is added for the Cadillac XT5.
