Buyers should be aware that the recall remedy is pending, and the vehicle may be unsuitable for families needing full seating capacity.

92 complaints total

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

11 complaints

Owners report several issues with the 2025 Toyota Sienna, primarily related to safety recalls and water leaks. Multiple complaints highlight unresolved safety recalls that restrict the use of second-row seating, affecting families who rely on these seats for child passengers. Water leaks through the moonroof and sunroof are frequently mentioned, with some owners noting persistent leakage even after attempted repairs. Additionally, there are reports of sliding door noise due to roller issues and a sunroof that unexpectedly exploded while driving. Safety implications are noted in the form of restricted seating use and potential electrical hazards from leaks, though no crashes or injuries are reported. These issues appear soon after purchase, with no specific mileage range mentioned.

STRUCTURE

9 complaints

Owners of the 2025 Toyota Sienna frequently report issues with the second row seat welds, which are part of an open recall due to potential failure in crashes, rendering the seats unsafe for use. Complaints consistently mention that Toyota has not provided a remedy, leaving the vehicle's primary function as a family transporter compromised for extended periods. Additionally, multiple owners describe problems with the rear liftgate, including misalignment and difficulty in opening, with some suggesting it may stem from improper alignment or design flaws. These issues are reported at relatively low mileages, typically around 8,000 to 11,000 miles. Safety implications are significant, particularly with the second row seat welds, as they could result in serious injury if not addressed.

VISIBILITY (9 complaints)

VISIBILITY

9 complaints

Owners report a recurring issue with the driver side mirror on the 2025 Toyota Sienna, where the mirror vibrates or shakes, leading to distorted and blurred visibility. Complaints frequently mention that this problem occurs right from the first day of ownership, often at low speeds and worsening at highway speeds. The vibration can make it challenging to judge distances and affects the driver's awareness of surroundings, with some owners experiencing symptoms like nausea and vertigo. Despite attempts to resolve the issue through dealership visits and mirror replacements, owners indicate the problem persists, suggesting a potential manufacturing characteristic. While no crashes are reported, the visibility distortion poses a safety concern, especially when changing lanes or driving at night.

9 complaints total
VISIBILITY/WIPER (5 complaints)

VISIBILITY/WIPER

5 complaints

Owners of the 2025 Toyota Sienna frequently report issues with the visibility components, particularly concerning the driver's side exterior mirror and rear backup camera. Multiple complaints describe the driver's side mirror vibrating or shaking, especially noticeable at highway speeds and over bumpy roads, causing distortion and distraction. Some owners indicate this issue is present from the time of purchase, and dealers have acknowledged the problem but cite no available fix. Additionally, one owner mentions the rear backup camera becoming obscured by water after rainfall, affecting visibility when reversing. These issues, particularly the mirror vibration, could potentially impact safe driving by impairing the driver's ability to accurately assess surrounding traffic.

5 complaints total
SEAT BELTS (2 complaints)

SEAT BELTS

2 complaints

Owners of the 2025 Toyota Sienna report issues with the seat belts in the second row, particularly on the passenger side. Complaints frequently mention that the seat belts either become stuck and fail to retract or do not clip properly, rendering the seat unusable. These issues are noted in vehicles with low mileage, around 1,300 miles, and within weeks of purchase. The inability to secure passengers safely poses a safety concern, as it prevents the use of the seat and triggers seat belt sensors. Buyers should be aware of these potential seat belt malfunctions when considering this model.

On [XXX], I purchased a new Toyota Sienna 2025 from Toyota Pasadena. The car has had frequent “check rear seat” and “check 3rd row seat” alerts everyday I drive. I have contacted Toyota Motors a few times since May, 2025, and visited Toyota Pasadena countless times to solve this error since April, 2025. After their “alarm specialist” checked my vehicle, they started to intentionally ignore my repair request. It seems Toyota knows the problem but couldn’t fix it in an easy and cheap way. Toyota Pasadena always insisted on me seeing their alarm specialist OFF THE RECORD, rather than accepting my vehicle for repair, so they can avoid Lemon Law punishment. When I contacted Toyota Motor a few times, they always pushed me back to Toyota Pasadena and ignored my request to have other dealers’ or the engineers fix my Sienna. I have been trapped in this endless fraud loop wasting time for a year. I have a [XXX] daughter. With this error not being fixed, I can’t risk putting my daughter and her seat on the rear seat. I was forced to buy another SUV, which created significant financial stress along with the stress of being pushed away between Toyota Motor and Toyota Pasadena over and over again. The bottomline is I need to make sure the rear seat is safe because my family’s lives are on the line. They shouldn’t intentionally hide the safety issue and forced me to accept the risk. It’s a new car in the original condition that Toyota Pasadena handed me. Everything on this vehicle was installed by Toyota Motor and Toyota Pasadena before it was handed to me. I already requested that if it's alarm bugs they cannot fix, they can remove the faulty alarm with a refund. I only want a safe vehicle. But they rejected me. The vehicle still makes random alarms and shows the “check rear seat” today and everyday. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

When i am driving from high speed and trying to use my brakes, the whole rear car will start shaking around 48/45 miles per hour , I can hear our car seat from our baby how it makes vibrating noises and i can see my both door mirrors they're shaking too, and when it drops to 40mil per hour the shaking goes away. Went to the local Toyota dealer 3 times and they're saying that's normal. Very disappointed with a brand new car. We have another new car and doesn't do that for sure... Called Toyota national, open a case and they're saying, mechanic can't find anything wrong. They should drive this car for a longer distance and they will know for sure what I am talking about.

I bought this van brand new. I quickly realized that the reverse camera view has some issues. I believe images are not clean and sharp, as it is supposed to, and has unreasonable amount of distortions. Cleaning the camera from outside didn't do anything. I also noticed that the bottom part of center blue alignment line is little bit to the right and not align with the top. I checked online and it appears that other owners are also suffering from this same issue. Toyota should recall all affected vehicle and fixed this issue as soon as possible as this is a major safety issue when backing up!

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent — Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good — Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed — Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky — Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
