2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC Common Problems by Component
20 owner complaints grouped by vehicle system.
POWER TRAIN
6 complaintsOwners report recurring powertrain issues with the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC, primarily involving transmission malfunctions and power loss. Complaints frequently mention sudden downshifting, unexpected deceleration, and a lack of acceleration responsiveness, with some incidents occurring at highway speeds. These issues are reported even at low mileages, such as 9,500 miles, and have persisted despite service visits. Safety implications include the risk of rear-end collisions due to abrupt speed changes and loss of vehicle control. Buyers should be aware that these problems have not been consistently resolved by service centers, and some owners have expressed significant safety concerns.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
4 complaintsOwners of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC frequently report issues with the vehicle's electrical system, particularly involving the check engine light and battery-related warnings. Common symptoms include the illumination of the check engine light, low-battery warnings, and various error messages, sometimes accompanied by a complete inability to start the vehicle. These issues often occur at low mileages, with some reports indicating problems as early as 1,100 to 2,174 miles. While no crashes or fires are mentioned, one owner expresses concern for family safety due to the vehicle's failure to start. Multiple owners have had their vehicles serviced multiple times, yet report that dealers have not provided a permanent fix for these electrical issues.
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
3 complaintsOwners report multiple issues with the forward collision avoidance system in the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC, particularly involving unexpected auto-braking. Complaints frequently mention the vehicle braking without obstruction, both while driving forward and reversing, with no warning lights or sounds. One owner indicates this issue has occurred since purchasing the vehicle in March 2024, while another notes problems beginning in June 2024. The auto-braking is described as random and can cause the vehicle to swerve, posing a safety risk. Affected owners also mention the problem persists despite service interventions, and one report includes an injury linked to the sudden braking. These issues may be particularly concerning for prospective buyers considering the vehicle's reliability in avoiding unintended braking incidents.
EXTERIOR LIGHTING (2 complaints)
EXTERIOR LIGHTING
2 complaintsOwners report issues with the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC's exterior lighting, particularly involving the Attention Assist System and headlight design. The Attention Assist System randomly suspends, affecting safety features like blind spot and attention assist, with occurrences noted from under 350 miles. A separate complaint describes a shadow cast by the left front headlight at night, perceived as a moving object, which could potentially distract drivers. These issues arise early in the vehicle's life and may pose safety concerns, such as driver distraction or safety feature unreliability. Potential buyers should be aware of these specific lighting concerns and their implications for safety.
ENGINE (1 complaints)
ENGINE
1 complaintBrand new 2024 GLC300 4MATIC with less than 750 miles. Check Engine light came on with no error message explanation. Brought it in to dealer for service - Found fault code POA7F00. Dealer followed LI54.10-P-077250. Cleared codes. Check engine light is still on with no resolution to problem at this time. Was told to ignore and keep driving. Driving with check engine light illuminated is a safety concern for me.
SEAT BELTS (1 complaints)
SEAT BELTS
1 complaintPassenger backseat seatbelt would not release under any circumstance. I tried turning the car off and on again. Checking settings on the screen and even releasing the seat a bit. Pushing the red button on the buckle did nothing. Pulling did nothing. Eventually had to cut the seatbelt to get the passenger out. And it is still stuck in the buckle.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER (1 complaints)
UNKNOWN OR OTHER
1 complaintOUR SUV IS 6 WEEKS NEW AND WAS PURCHASED NEW AT THE MERCEDES DEALERSHIP. REAR HATCH: WHEN STANDING BEHIND VEHICLE REAR DOOR HATCH CLOSES RANDOMLY WITH NO WARNING OR BEEP. CLOSES VERY QUICKLY AND HITS HEAD VERY HARD. FEET ARE NOT NEAR THE BUMBER WHICH ELIMINATES THE REAR FOOT ACTION THAT CLOSES THE HATCH. WHEN THE HATCH HITS YOUR HEAD IT COULD KNOCK YOU OUT ESPECIALLY IF YOUR EDERLY OR A CHILD. ALSO IF YOU TRY AND STOP THE HATCH COSING ITS VERY STRONG AND TAKES A LOT OF STRENGTH. WHEN YOU USE THE REMOTE OR BUTTON IN CAR TO OPEN HATCH IT OPENS SO FAST AND BEEPS TO LATE TO ALERT DOOR IS OPENING. VERY DANGEROUS. THIS PROBLEM HAPPEN SEVERAL TIMES AND IS RANDOM. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPEN WAS SUNDAY 9-1-24 WHILE LOADING GROCERIES AT COSTCO
AIR BAGS (1 complaints)
AIR BAGS
1 complaintSafety-relatedThe contact owns a 2024 Mercedes Benz GLC 300. The contact stated that while attempting to park, the vehicle experienced unintended acceleration causing the contact to lose control of the vehicle and crash into a wall, another vehicle, and two poles where it came to stop when crashing into the second pole. During the unintended acceleration, the contact depressed the brake pedal to control the vehicle however it failed to respond. No air bags deployed. The contact sustained chest, neck, and back injuries and an ambulance transported her to a hospital. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic by the insurance company. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.
VISIBILITY/WIPER (1 complaints)
VISIBILITY/WIPER
1 complaintI purchased the car brand new from my local dealership and 3 months after purchase my windshield cracked. I had the entire windshield replaced with an OEM windshield on 5/7/2024 and yesterday I got another chip/crack in my windshield. I have only had my car less than 8 months and already had 2 cracks/chips. I owned my previous Mercedes over 6years and never had an chip or crack. This has to be a defect in the windshield. My friend also just purchased a 2024 GLC 300 and it's only 3 months old and her windshield is also cracked. I look forward to hearing from you.
SERVICE BRAKES (1 complaints)
SERVICE BRAKES
1 complaintAfter giving a pressure to the brakes, the car feels like the brakes are being slipped towards the end, so I have to hold the brakes hard at the end. I have tried different models of Mercedes such as E class but the brake of E class works exactly opposite from GLC 300. When I give a pressure to E class, first it will stop slowly and towards the end, it will stop more aggressively. When I drive GLC 300 on highway, I had to make several sudden stops because I couldn't estimate the brake range. I made several different people to drive my car, and they felt the same. I have reported to dealer right away, and they are saying it is normal. I even said E class brake system is away different from GLC 300 brake system and they are saying I cannot compare different class cars but have to compare same class cars. I think I have to compare GLC with different class of cars so that I could know the GLC has problem from manufacturing.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores
Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.
Key Ranking Factors
Complaint Severity
NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.
Repair Costs
Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.
Recall Impact
Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.
Issue Diversity
Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.
Scores are grouped into four tiers:
- 80–100: Excellent — Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
- 60–79: Good — Reliable with some minor concerns
- 40–59: Mixed — Notable issues, research before buying
- 0–39: Risky — Significant problems, proceed with caution
Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
