ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

9 complaintsSafety-related

Owners report multiple electrical system issues with the 2024 Mercedes-Benz A-Class, including malfunctioning parking and collision sensors, sudden unintended acceleration, and problems with the infotainment and instrument cluster. Complaints frequently mention false alerts from sensors and unexpected acceleration during low-speed maneuvers, leading to crashes in some instances. These issues often occur shortly after purchase, with mileage as low as 8,000 miles. Safety implications are significant, as some incidents involve loss of control and collisions. Additionally, owners describe problems with charging systems in electric models, with high voltage warnings and charging difficulties.

9 complaints total3 crashes

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

6 complaints

Owners report several issues with the 2024 Mercedes-Benz A-Class, notably involving transmission and electrical problems. Complaints frequently mention the vehicle shifting unexpectedly from drive to neutral, requiring a restart to regain functionality, and persistent starting issues accompanied by multiple warning lights. Additionally, some owners describe severe jerking motions while driving, which occur at various speeds and conditions, with no apparent pattern. These symptoms have been observed across a range of mileages, from as low as 200 miles to over 9,000 miles. Safety implications are significant, with reports of potential loss of control and one instance causing physical discomfort to the driver. These patterns may be of concern to potential buyers looking for a reliable vehicle.

6 complaints total

SEATS

2 complaints

Owners of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz A-Class report issues with the seats, specifically noting the driver's seat moving backward on its own during operation and the passenger seat bouncing and vibrating while driving. The driver's seat issue has been reported to occur both on highways and in parking situations, posing a potential safety risk due to unexpected movement. The passenger seat problem is acknowledged by technicians, but they state it affects all vehicles of this model year and suggest no current fix is available. Complaints do not specify exact mileage, but the issues appear soon after purchase. These seat-related problems may impact vehicle safety, particularly if they occur during driving.

SERVICE BRAKES (2 complaints)

SERVICE BRAKES

2 complaintsSafety-related

Owners of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz A-Class report issues related to the braking system, with one incident involving a crash due to a potential brake-by-wire system malfunction. In this case, the vehicle unexpectedly accelerated forward despite the brake pedal being fully depressed, resulting in a collision with a wall. The complaint notes an absence of warning lights or messages before the event, and only left-side tires left skid marks, indicating a possible brake imbalance. This issue poses significant safety risks, including loss of control and potential high-speed collisions. The complaint does not provide mileage information or confirm whether the problem has been reproduced or diagnosed by a service center.

2 complaints total1 crash
POWER TRAIN (2 complaints)

POWER TRAIN

2 complaintsSafety-related

Owners report issues with the powertrain in the 2024 Mercedes-Benz A-Class, including a post-airbag deployment PCM lockout and a recurring transmission problem. The PCM lockout prevents the vehicle from restarting after airbag deployment, which one owner notes could pose a risk in emergencies where immediate vehicle evacuation is necessary. Another owner describes a harsh, abnormal shift between 3rd and 4th gear at 25–35 mph, characterized by a sudden jerk or hesitation during normal acceleration. Despite multiple service visits, this transmission issue persists intermittently, sometimes accompanied by power-related problems and steering/driver-assist warnings. Safety implications are noted, including a crash scenario linked to the PCM lockout.

2 complaints total1 crash
SUSPENSION (2 complaints)

SUSPENSION

2 complaints

Owners report two primary issues related to the suspension of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz A-Class. One complaint describes a creaking noise from the rear suspension, attributed to severe rust on the subframe, with the vehicle having 120,000 miles. Another owner mentions repeated tire blowouts and rapid pressure loss on factory-installed 21-inch AMG wheels, occurring approximately six times over 18 months. Both issues have safety implications, with the rusted subframe potentially compromising vehicle integrity and the tire malfunctions leading to warnings only after pressure loss begins. These complaints suggest potential safety risks and repair needs, particularly for high-mileage vehicles.

2 complaints total
WHEELS (2 complaints)

WHEELS

2 complaints

Owners of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz A-Class frequently report issues with the Pirelli tires, specifically noting the development of bubbles on the sidewalls, which leads to air leakage and flat tires. Complaints describe these problems occurring during normal driving conditions, with one instance involving a tire going flat after hitting a 2-inch pothole. Multiple owners mention that all four tires on their vehicle experienced these issues, with some reporting up to five flat tires within the first 40 days of ownership. Safety implications are highlighted, as one owner describes a near-collision due to sudden tire pressure loss. These patterns suggest potential concerns for buyers regarding tire durability and safety, particularly with the 21-inch tire size.

While driving on the highway with the panoramic sunroof open, the glass suddenly shattered, sounding like a gunshot or an explosion. Shards of glass flew into the vehicle and rained down on me, creating a very hazardous driving situation. I did not observe any foreign object that could have caused the sunroof to break.

The master central screen as well as the passenger screen that contains all features for radio, navigation, control of reading road signs, climate control and the like go BLACK randomly during the four weeks I have owned the 2024 E Class Mercedes. It will reboot after 2-5 minutes with no lost data. Dealer in Cherry Hill, NJ did major software update not completed at time of purchase. But incident happened after two weeks. Others with this make, year and model have same situations with dealerships not knowing anything. Supposedly, Mercedes knows but a solution may be three months or more. This is a safety issue as if happens at night, you lose all connections even to the cell phone and no speed sign indicator on. You cannot see anything but the driver screen with just the speed you are doing. Cruise control disengages which is using all security systems and navigation map.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent— Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good— Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed— Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky— Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.

Get notified when new recalls or reliability data is added for the Mercedes-Benz A-Class.
