SUSPENSION, STEERING
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2020 Nissan Murano, INFINITI QX60, 2021 Nissan GT-R, INFINITI QX50, and Q50 vehicles. The front steering knuckle or rear axle housing may have insufficient strength due to improper heat-treatment.
Consequence
The steering knuckle or rear axle could deform upon impact, such as from hitting a curb, resulting in a loss of steering control, or possible wheel separation. Both of these conditions can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and replace the front steering knuckle and rear axle housing, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 26, 2021. Nissan owners may contact customer service at 1-800-867-7669. INFINITI owners may contact customer service at 1-800-662-6200.

STEERING (1 complaints)
STEERING
1 complaintThe contact owns a 2020 Infinity QX60. The contact stated while driving at undisclosed speeds, there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the vehicle. The contact stated that the sound was more evident while turning to the left or the right. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the axle was damaged. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V402000 (SUSPENSION, STEERING): however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
STRUCTURE (1 complaints)
STRUCTURE
1 complaintI am submitting this formal safety defect complaint regarding a serious and life-threatening incident involving my 2020 Infiniti QX60. While traveling at approximately 60 miles per hour on a public highway, the vehicle’s hood suddenly and violently flew fully open without warning. This resulted in an immediate and complete loss of forward visibility while the vehicle was in motion. The hood had been properly closed prior to driving, and there were no warning indicators, unusual noises, or prior issues suggesting a problem with the latch mechanism. This event appeared to involve a total failure of both the primary hood latch and the secondary safety latch system, which are specifically designed to prevent this type of occurrence. The incident created an extremely dangerous situation with a high risk of a catastrophic collision, serious injury, or death to myself and other motorists. I was fortunate to maintain control of the vehicle and safely slow down without a crash. This was a near-miss catastrophic event caused by a critical safety system failure. A hood opening at highway speed creates total loss of visibility and represents a severe hazard to roadway safety. The vehicle is currently being preserved without repair so that the failure can be properly evaluated. I am reporting this incident so it can be investigated for potential design, manufacturing, or mechanical defects that could affect other drivers. Sincerely, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
SUSPENSION (1 complaints)
SUSPENSION
1 complaint2020 infinity qx 60 Bought car used in 2024 with 80,000. There is a hesitation when accelerating and sometimes seems to want to die when idling. There is also a knocking sound at times when accelerating. At times I feel transmission skips. When turning right or left or reversing, the wheels seem to creek and almost grind a bit. I am great about maintenance and called to determine if my vin was included in the current recalls. I am told no, but am experiencing the same symptoms described by infinity. Just want to know if there is a any action to take to ensure my 4 kids and I are always safe when traveling and dont end up with thousands in repairs.
VISIBILITY (1 complaints)
VISIBILITY
1 complaintThe contact owns a 2020 Infiniti QX60. The contact stated that while driving on the highway at 65 MPH, the sunroof glass shattered without impact. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was inspected, and the contact was informed that there was no cause for the failure found. The contact was informed that the sunroof glass needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 74,000.
AIR BAGS (1 complaints)
AIR BAGS
1 complaintSafety-relatedI was involved in a multi-car accident on 11/16/23 wile traveling on the 485 Beltway around Charlotte, NC. It was approximately 6 pm, and completely dark. The traffic was very heavy and traveling at 70 mph ( the speed limit) when a car in front of me was stopped. My 2020 Infinity QX60 did NOT alert me of a potential frontal collision, nor did the car begin braking. I slammed on the brakes, but was unable to keep from hitting the car in front of me. I was then hit in my rear by the car in back of me. NONE of my airbags went off!!! That is inconceivable since my front end collided with the car in front of me AND the car behind me hit my car's rear end. I have a badly bruised sternum and am in a great deal of pain. It hurts all of the time, and is excruciating when I move. The safety systems FAILED. I'm very fortunate that I wasn't more badly injured. My SUV was towed to Larry Campbell's Towing Storage yard, which is located at 7327 Old Statesville Rd. in Charlotte, NC. 28269. ( All 3 cars involved in the accident were towed). The NC Highway Patrol responded to the accident and a report was written. The local report number is 231116167HA.
SERVICE BRAKES (1 complaints)
SERVICE BRAKES
1 complaintWhile driving, the vehicle will sometimes think there’s an object (vehicle or something) close in front of me so the brakes will automatically engage, which slows down the vehicle. This is quite alarming as this has happened on several occasions, causing me to almost get hit from the rear. I previously took the vehicle in to report this problem but they couldn’t duplicate it so I was informed that there is no problem. HOWEVER, just because they don’t know how to duplicate it, that doesn’t mean the problem doesn’t exist. I am concerned about my safety so this needs to be addressed ASAP. Also, for the date of incident, I will use the most recent date.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores
Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.
Key Ranking Factors
Complaint Severity
NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.
Repair Costs
Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.
Recall Impact
Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.
Issue Diversity
Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.
Scores are grouped into four tiers:
- 80–100: Excellent— Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
- 60–79: Good— Reliable with some minor concerns
- 40–59: Mixed— Notable issues, research before buying
- 0–39: Risky— Significant problems, proceed with caution
Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
Get notified when new recalls or reliability data is added for the Infiniti QX60.
