VISIBILITY/WIPER

10 complaints

Owners of the 2023 Dodge Challenger frequently report spontaneous windshield cracks, often described as stress fractures, with no visible impact points. These cracks commonly originate from the A-pillars on either the driver or passenger side and can extend up to 12 inches or more, sometimes growing rapidly. Complaints indicate these issues can arise shortly after purchase or at various mileage points, such as 38,000 miles. Safety implications include reduced visibility, posing a potential crash risk. Additionally, one owner mentions dissatisfaction with the driver-side mirror's blind spot, although this is less frequently reported than the windshield issue.

10 complaints total

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

8 complaints

Owners of the 2023 Dodge Challenger frequently report issues with windshield cracking, often occurring without any apparent impact or debris damage. Complaints describe cracks originating from the edges of the windshield, particularly on the passenger side, with lengths varying from 6 to 10 inches. These incidents typically occur at low mileages, with reports around 3,000 to 9,200 miles. Some owners suggest potential manufacturing defects related to windshield adhesion or body flexing as possible causes. Additionally, a few owners mention problems with the backup camera's performance and concerns about the brake pedal's hardness, which could affect starting the vehicle. The spontaneous windshield cracking is noted as a potential safety risk due to compromised structural integrity and visibility.

STRUCTURE

4 complaints

Owners report recurring issues with the 2023 Dodge Challenger's windshield cracking without any apparent external impact. Complaints frequently mention cracks originating from the A-pillar on both the driver and passenger sides, often attributed to improper bonding during manufacturing and vehicle body flex. These incidents typically occur at low mileage, with some owners experiencing cracks at less than 3,000 miles. While no safety implications such as crashes or loss of control are noted, the issue results in repeated windshield replacements and significant inconvenience. Prospective buyers should be aware of this pattern, as multiple owners describe similar experiences with both new and slightly used vehicles.

SERVICE BRAKES (4 complaints)

SERVICE BRAKES

4 complaints

Owners of the 2023 Dodge Challenger report several issues with the service brakes. Complaints frequently mention brake pad material breaking or crumbling, particularly after the vehicle has been parked for a week, with symptoms including a popping or clunking noise and brake material adhering to the rotors. These issues are reported at low mileages, often under 1,200 miles, and involve potential safety risks such as wheel shudder and compromised braking performance. Additionally, one owner describes brake lines melting due to proximity to the exhaust manifold, indicating a possible manufacturing defect. Buyers should be aware of these early-stage brake problems, which may necessitate repairs or part replacements soon after purchase.

4 complaints total
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM (4 complaints)

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

4 complaints

Owners report several electrical system issues with the 2023 Dodge Challenger. A recurring problem involves incorrect electronic modules being installed, which may affect vehicle functionality. Another issue noted is with the air conditioning system in manual transmission models, which reportedly fails to operate when the vehicle is stationary in high temperatures, affecting over 628 vehicles. Additionally, multiple owners describe problems with the backup camera, including glitchy performance and availability errors, potentially impacting rear visibility and safety. These issues are observed in vehicles with relatively low mileage, often under 5,000 miles. Safety implications include reduced visibility and potential system malfunctions that could affect vehicle operation.

4 complaints total
SEATS (2 complaints)

SEATS

2 complaints

Owners report issues with the passenger seat in the 2023 Dodge Challenger, specifically concerning its inability to lock into place, which occurs both when the vehicle is stationary and in motion. Another common issue involves the "easy entry" handle, where the passenger seat fails to return to its original position after being moved for rear seat access, leading to the seat sliding back forcefully and potentially causing injury to rear passengers. These problems are described without reference to specific mileage, but they pose safety implications due to the risk of injury and the seat not being securely locked during vehicle operation. Car buyers should be aware of these seat malfunctions when considering a used 2023 Dodge Challenger.

2 complaints total
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL (2 complaints)

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

2 complaints

Owners report issues with the vehicle speed control system on the 2023 Dodge Challenger, particularly with traction control and cruise control functionalities. Some owners describe the traction control system activating and deactivating autonomously, regardless of driving conditions or driver input. Additionally, complaints frequently mention that the cruise control system lacks a display of the set speed, creating potential distractions as drivers must manually count adjustments to ascertain speed changes. This issue is noted from the time of purchase and persists, with some owners indicating that dealers confirm the absence of a speed display across multiple vehicles of the same model year. While no crashes or loss of control incidents are reported, the lack of clear speed indication could pose a distraction risk.

When the manual cruise control or the adaptive cruise control is engaged, the speed setting is not displayed as indicated by the user manual of the vehicle. This provides a hazard when using the cruise control, as it creates a situation where you can engage cruise or adaptive cruise without knowing what the speed it is set to, and could potentially result in a collision. Additionally, when adjusting the speed setting of the cruise control, it is you can't see what the speed is adjusted to. This speed setting is displayed on older versions of the vehicle (I previously owned a 2019 challenger that displayed the setting). I have not yet taken the vehicle to the dealer, but have found multiple accounts online of other 2023 Dodge Challengers experiencing the same problem. It would appear to be a software issue, as the manual and adaptive cruise controls function normally other than not being able to see the set speed. Please see the attached photo, Adaptive cruise is currently on, indicated by the green icon on the left of the screen, but the manual indicates the speed setting should be indicated below the green icon.

I know this has probably been posted. Driving last night with the wife and I smell fuel. Then the gas gauge starts to drop from full to empty in less than 3 minutes. I pull over, the car shuts down. I see fuel on the passenger side , just in front of the tire. Get the car safely towed home. I pop the back seat and remove the access cover for the fuel pump. See picture. This is how I found the fuel line. The green locking tab was not locked. Even though theirs a green paint mark to confirm the fuel line is secure. Obviously not. The locking tab barely engages and is so easy to move to the unlocked position with no effort at all. Stellantis should be embarrassed that a vehicle left their plant in an unsafe condition. Either the locking tab was not engaged fully or in my opinion a terrible design. It should lock with some effort. With the high pressure the fuel system is under there should be a better locking mechanism. This is a poor design. My car is not modified, has only 2,000 miles on it and has never been tracked. To me a design flaw or piss poor installation tech is responsible. The car could have caught on fire and hurt someone if it was in my garage. These lines should use aircraft style fasteners for the fuel lines, especially at the top of the pump. I have seen at least 12 other instances like this online. That means there are many more. There needs to be a recall that changes the fuel pump and a much more reliable fastening and locking system. These car were and are not cheap. I’ve never complained here or anywhere. I really enjoy the car. But now my confidence in the vehicle’s safety is very much in question. When I called Chrysler roadside assistance they said I couldn’t get a two until Monday 11-3. WTH! @DodgeCares sounds like you don’t really care. The BMW dealership that I have bought two cars from where out in 30 minutes to help and get me and my car home.

New Vehicle lost appx 3.5 qts of oil in appx 700 miles of driving, spraying undercarraige with oil, causing light smoke from striking exhaust, and leaving stains where parked. Appx 3oz of engine oil observed by me to accumulate in low area on top side of under engine front plastic fairing (I recommend a 1/4" drain hole in the low area to avoid accumulation of engine fluids in this area). Returned to Dealer for repair. Repair Diagnosis: Front seal engine oil leak (per dealer repair info, non specific). Front seal(s) replaced. Service agent stated she had seen this before with this particular engine (V6 Pentastar).

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent— Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good— Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed— Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky— Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.

Get notified when new recalls or reliability data is added for the Dodge Challenger.

No spam. Only data updates for this model.
