2024 Cadillac XT4 Common Problems by Component
28 owner complaints grouped by vehicle system.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
7 complaintsOwners report multiple electrical system issues with the 2024 Cadillac XT4, including unexpected activation of the Automatic Emergency Braking system and sudden vehicle shutdowns while driving. Complaints frequently mention that the vehicle's infotainment and dashboard screens go black, and drivers experience a loss of braking and steering control. These issues often occur at various speeds, including highway driving, and in some cases, the vehicle stalls or decelerates rapidly. Several complaints note that these problems have persisted despite attempts at dealership repairs, with some vehicles affected as early as 3,000 miles. Safety implications are significant, with owners describing near-miss accidents and situations where the vehicle's behavior could lead to collisions or loss of control.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
4 complaintsOwners report that the 2024 Cadillac XT4 experiences issues with the fuel pump driver control module, leading to vehicle stalling. Complaints frequently mention the vehicle shutting off suddenly, both while driving and when stationary, with no prior warning signs. Affected vehicles often cannot be shifted into neutral, complicating towing and creating potential traffic hazards. These incidents typically occur without any dashboard alerts, and multiple owners describe needing to have the vehicle towed to a dealership for module replacement. The stalling problem poses a safety risk, particularly if it occurs in traffic, as it may obstruct traffic flow and increase the risk of accidents.
SERVICE BRAKES
4 complaintsSafety-relatedOwners of the 2024 Cadillac XT4 frequently report issues with the vehicle's automatic braking systems. Complaints often describe unexpected engagement of the Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) system, leading to sudden stops without obstructions, sometimes referred to as "phantom braking." One incident involved a crash when the AEB engaged at an intersection, resulting in a rear-end collision. Additionally, there are reports of high-pitched squealing noises under light braking at low speeds, particularly during initial stops of the day. These issues have been noted from the time of vehicle purchase, with some owners indicating that dealers have acknowledged the problems but have not provided permanent solutions. Safety implications are significant, especially with the potential for rear-end collisions due to unexpected braking.
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE (3 complaints)
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
3 complaintsOwners report unexpected activation of the automatic emergency braking system in the 2024 Cadillac XT4, often when there are no obstacles or vehicles in the path. Complaints frequently mention sudden braking at various speeds, including approximately 53 mph, and multiple incidents occurring both in forward and reverse. These unexpected activations have almost resulted in rear-end collisions, with one owner specifically noting a near-miss with a Mack dump truck. Some owners have experienced these issues multiple times over a few months, and they describe instances where the vehicle was taken to a dealership for inspection and reprogramming, yet the problem persisted. The safety implications are significant, as sudden braking without cause poses a risk of accidents, particularly if other vehicles are following closely.
POWER TRAIN (3 complaints)
POWER TRAIN
3 complaintsOwners report several power train issues with the 2024 Cadillac XT4, primarily involving transmission and braking anomalies. Complaints frequently mention transmission slipping, clunking noises, and sudden deceleration where the vehicle abruptly slows down from highway speeds, sometimes accompanied by multiple warning lights, including service transmission and engine warnings. These issues often appear shortly after purchase, with one owner noting problems within 45 days. Safety implications are significant, as unexpected braking and loss of power can lead to dangerous situations on highways. Potential buyers should be aware of these reported issues and consider the associated risks.
STEERING (2 complaints)
STEERING
2 complaintsOwners report issues with the 2024 Cadillac XT4's steering, particularly involving the front-end suspension and steering assembly. Complaints frequently mention failures of the front struts and mounts, with replacements occurring around 29,968 to 35,740 miles. Symptoms include severe lateral steering pull and a misaligned steering wheel position, leading to handling instability. There is also a report of a temporary inability to turn the steering wheel, which resolved after restarting the vehicle. Safety implications include extreme handling instability on public roads, though no crashes or injuries are reported.
VISIBILITY/WIPER (2 complaints)
VISIBILITY/WIPER
2 complaintsOwners of the 2024 Cadillac XT4 report issues with visibility systems, specifically the backup camera and front windows. The backup camera is described as non-functional at night, displaying a black screen in low-light conditions, which some owners note was present from the time of leasing. Additionally, there are reports of the front driver’s and passenger’s windows appearing hazy or milky in sunlight, with no accompanying warning messages. These issues are noted shortly after purchase, around July 2024, and may pose safety concerns, particularly the backup camera problem, when driving in dark environments. Buyers considering this vehicle should be aware of these visibility-related complaints.
AIR BAGS (1 complaints)
AIR BAGS
1 complaintSafety-relatedI am submitting this complaint to report a significant safety system failure in my 2025 Cadillac XT4 during an accident that occurred on April 12, 2025, in Dallas, Texas. During the incident: •The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) did not activate, and I was unable to stop in time to avoid a collision. •Neither the driver nor passenger airbags deployed, despite sufficient impact that should have triggered deployment. •OnStar Automatic Crash Response did not activate, nor was I contacted by any emergency response service through the vehicle. None of the vehicle’s safety systems functioned during this event, despite being standard factory-installed features. My XT4 had no warning lights or diagnostic messages indicating any malfunction prior to the crash. This failure closely resembles previous complaints noted in NHTSA filings (e.g., ABS sensor failures, OnStar module failures, and the 2025 XT4 passenger airbag recall). I am extremely concerned that this may point to a broader defect within the model line’s safety infrastructure, including collision sensors, electronic communication systems, or airbag deployment logic. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate whether a defect exists in the braking or airbag systems, particularly where no safety features activate in a crash. I would be willing to provide repair records, crash photos, and allow the vehicle to be inspected if needed. Thank you for your attention and for helping to ensure driver safety through proper oversight.
ENGINE (1 complaints)
ENGINE
1 complaintDriving to a local car wash, I stopped at a traffic light. When I tried to accelerate the transmission warning and power reduction waring flashed on HUD. I could not drive or place the car in reverse, the car had lost all its mobility. I had to let the car coast downhill to pull the car to the side of a busy street. I was fortunate this did not happen on a congested highway, but regardless the inability to move a car off a busy street is an extreme safety hazard. The vehicle needed towed, and after 31 one days was returned to me, four days later while on the highway bolts were falling off the undercarriage of the vehicle. Upon further inspection the rear exhaust bracket had fallen off and was missing 3 bolts.
BACK OVER PREVENTION (1 complaints)
BACK OVER PREVENTION
1 complaintGM/Cadillac removed the Front Parking Assist and cameras from the 2024 XT4 Cadillac. We were unaware that the vehicle did no have this now basic feature and almost bumped into another vehicle. This feature was in all other years of this vehicle and GM decided to leave it out without notifying purchasers of this. Why would any major manufacturer make a vehicle less safe than pervious versions. GM needs to retrofit all models of the 2024 XT4 with Front Parking Assist to ensure a child or other object in front of the car does not get run over.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores
Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.
Key Ranking Factors
Complaint Severity
NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.
Repair Costs
Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.
Recall Impact
Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.
Issue Diversity
Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.
Scores are grouped into four tiers:
- 80–100: Excellent— Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
- 60–79: Good— Reliable with some minor concerns
- 40–59: Mixed— Notable issues, research before buying
- 0–39: Risky— Significant problems, proceed with caution
Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
