2025 Cadillac XT4 Common Problems by Component
9 owner complaints grouped by vehicle system.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
4 complaintsOwners report several issues with the 2025 Cadillac XT4's electrical system, particularly related to the OnStar service and telematics module. Complaints frequently mention that the OnStar system fails to operate correctly, leading to battery drainage and rendering the car inoperable. Additionally, multiple owners describe problems with emergency calling features and built-in navigation, with systems unable to provide accurate location data or function reliably, posing potential safety risks. Symptoms include spontaneous vehicle starting and dashboard warnings like “Service Emergency Calling.” These issues are noted at various mileage points, such as around 17,000 miles, and parts necessary for repairs are often unavailable or backordered, leaving some vehicles unrepaired.
POWER TRAIN
2 complaintsOwners report significant issues with the 2025 Cadillac XT4's transmission, including sudden disengagement at highway speeds and delayed engagement when shifting from Park to Drive or Reverse. These symptoms lead to unexpected loss of power and sudden vehicle lunges, posing safety risks, particularly in fast-moving traffic. Another owner describes a transmission fluid leak occurring shortly after vehicle purchase. The complaints do not specify exact mileage but indicate these issues arise in nearly new vehicles. Such reports highlight potential safety concerns for prospective buyers.
SERVICE BRAKES
2 complaintsOwners report issues with the brake system in the 2025 Cadillac XT4, primarily involving brake failure and warning lights. Complaints frequently mention the brake pedal going to the floor and warning lights, including the check engine and brake warning lights, illuminating. One owner experienced brake failure at various speeds, with the issues appearing around 280 miles. Another owner noted a complete brake failure, with subsequent error codes that dealerships did not address. Safety implications include the potential for loss of control, as owners describe needing to exit roadways or tow the vehicle for service. These issues may involve the brake control module, with repair parts sometimes on back order.
VISIBILITY/WIPER (1 complaints)
VISIBILITY/WIPER
1 complaintSince we purchased the vehicle, the Heads-Up display is too low, even in its highest adjusted setting. My wife is [XXX] and can only see part of the heads-up display. I am [XXX] ' tall and have to adjust the seat so far up that my head almost touches the roof to see the heads-up display on the highest setting. Dealership reports that no one else has reported the issue and will require taking the entire dash apart to diagnose. It is a safety hazard only being able to see part of the Heads-up display while driving and being so low in the windshield. How We Calculate Reliability Scores
Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.
Key Ranking Factors
Complaint Severity
NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.
Repair Costs
Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.
Recall Impact
Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.
Issue Diversity
Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.
Scores are grouped into four tiers:
- 80–100: Excellent— Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
- 60–79: Good— Reliable with some minor concerns
- 40–59: Mixed— Notable issues, research before buying
- 0–39: Risky— Significant problems, proceed with caution
Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
