UNKNOWN OR OTHER

3 complaints

Owners of the 2020 Cadillac XT4 report several recurring issues in the UNKNOWN OR OTHER category. Multiple complaints describe braking problems, with symptoms including "squishy" brakes and concerns about the vehicle's ability to stop effectively. Additionally, there are reports of the Stabilitrack system malfunctioning during freezing weather, triggering the check engine light; this issue has been reported in consecutive winter seasons. Another frequent problem involves the backup camera, which intermittently stops working despite recall repairs. These issues are noted within the vehicle's warranty period, suggesting they occur relatively early in the vehicle's lifespan. Safety implications are highlighted by owners who express concerns about the vehicle's stopping capability and the functionality of the backup camera.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

2 complaints

Owners of the 2020 Cadillac XT4 report issues with the electrical system, specifically involving the rear/360 camera and battery. Complaints frequently mention the camera functioning intermittently, even after dealership repairs and replacements, with problems recurring approximately six months after the last fix. Additionally, there are reports of sudden battery failure without prior warning, noted at around 33,000 miles, which some owners find concerning due to the potential for being stranded. While no crashes or fires are reported, the unexpected battery failure poses a risk of immobilization, which could be significant for some drivers. These issues may be relevant for potential buyers considering a used XT4, as they indicate possible recurring maintenance concerns.

SUSPENSION

2 complaints

Owners of the 2020 Cadillac XT4 report issues related to the vehicle's suspension, particularly involving the rear passenger's side shock absorber. One owner describes a recurring failure despite initial repairs, characterized by an abnormal popping sound and screeching brakes, occurring around 25,000 miles. Another mentions malfunctioning ABS and stability track systems, which nearly resulted in a loss of vehicle control. These complaints suggest potential safety implications, such as difficulty maintaining control, though no crashes or injuries are reported. Buyers should be aware of these issues, especially at higher mileages, and consider verifying any completed recalls or repairs.

The recall i have listed below is a safety issue regarding the vehicles inability to properly stop for pedestrians, objects, traffic, backing up due to camera / software failure. This was fixed in 2022 on my car per the recall. everything worked great until it started happening again 12/2024 and they replaced the module now at an expense to me. it seemed to work for about 1 month and Now its 3/2025 and i continue to have this issue intermittently keep happening and they can't seem to find the problem. It happened in January, Feb, and March of this year. [XXX] — Cadillac XT4 rearview camera failures have caused a recall of more than 10,000 SUVs equipped with optional Surround Vision features. Recalled are 2019-2020 Cadillac XT4 vehicles with video processing modules (VPM) that may lose communication with the rearview cameras. This will cause the rearview camera image to fail. GM opened an investigation in August following backup camera failures in 2020 Cadillac XT4 SUVs. The automaker found increased warranty claims for camera failures on 2019 and 2020 XT4s. GM also received nearly 850 field reports between December 28, 2018, to September 19, 2022. According to General Motors, the problem with the video processing module is a software anomaly that allows the communication issues. A Cadillac XT4 driver may notice a problem if the backup camera image is replaced with a black or blue screen. Cadillac expects to mail XT4 recall letters January 9, 2022, and dealers will update the processing modules. In addition, the video processing modules will be replaced in 2019 Cadillac XT4 SUVs. Cadillac XT4 owners who want to learn more about the recall should call 800-458-8006 and ask about rearview camera image recall number N222373320. from this website: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I have a 2020 cadillac xt4. When I first purchased the car in 2021, it already needed a new battery. Since owning the vehicle, I've had to change the battery two times already with 3 years. When I go to start the car (push start) sometimes the car wouldn't turn over or turn on and my dash board would illuminate stating service stabilitrak. Sometimes it would take like 5-8 tries before the car turned on. When it did turn on, my check engine light came on, I couldn't accelerate beyond 43 miles, my braking system was not working and a lot of features on my car stopped working like the lane assistant didn't work, and neither did my cruise control, or emergency braking. Took it to O'Reilly and bought a new battery. Once I installed the new battery, the check engine light disappeared and the car started driving fine again.

On 03/16/2022 I was pulling away from my driveway on flat even pavement. As I accelerated the side curtain airbags malfunctioned and inflated.. there is no damage to the vehicle, and the report sent from onstage immediately following shows all information modules show no issues. We sent the vehicle to the dealership they have given us the run around for over a month and now say their finding doesn't merit fixing issue and I can transfer my claim from "faulty part" to warranty department "Only side curtain airbags deployed" both sides

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent— Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good— Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed— Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky— Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.

Get notified when new recalls or reliability data is added for the Cadillac XT4.
