8 owner complaints grouped by vehicle system.
TIRES
3 complaintsOwners of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz Metris-Passenger-VAN report issues related to tire performance and recall delays. One owner describes a blowout of the rear driver's side tire at approximately 70 MPH, leading to the replacement of all original tires due to premature treadwear, occurring around 23,000 miles. Additionally, multiple owners mention receiving notifications for a tire-related recall but express frustration over the unavailability of parts needed for the repair, with no failures experienced yet. These reports highlight concerns about tire durability and the timeliness of recall repairs, which potential buyers should consider when evaluating this vehicle.
WHEELS
2 complaintsOwners report issues related to an unresolved recall concerning a sticker on the 2019 Mercedes-Benz Metris-Passenger-VAN. Complaints frequently mention the recall's impact on vehicle usability, with one owner noting that their van was delisted from a rental platform, resulting in financial losses. Additionally, there are reports of a damaged VIN plate, which occurred during windshield replacement and has not been promptly replaced, complicating the sale of the vehicle. These issues do not indicate immediate safety implications like crashes or loss of control, but they do affect the vehicle's operational and resale potential. No specific mileage range is noted in these complaints.
ENGINE
1 complaintA check engine light on a Mercedes-Benz Metris, accompanied by a P052E code, often indicates a problem with the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system, specifically the PCV regulator valve or its associated components. This code signals that the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has detected an issue with the crankcase pressure, suggesting a malfunction in the PCV system's ability to regulate pressure.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM (1 complaints)
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
1 complaintThe pressure relief valve part on our Mercedes van is causing a check engine light to go off with code P052E. It's a known issue on several MB models (GLB, C300, etc.) that this original part wears out and can potentially cause an under-hood fire if oil gets clogged up in the components. To my knowledge there is no routine maintenance that we missed that would be causing this issue. MB has since released a new style of PCV part with insulation wrapped around the hose to prevent condensation build up. It's not possible to get the original stye of that part that is installed on our van anymore because Mercedes knows the part is poorly constructed and will fail. It's a costly and laborious repair (5-7 hrs), yet it seems like they already know it's a widespread and serious safety issue, however there is no recall on it on the 2019 Mercedes Metris as of now.
SERVICE BRAKES (1 complaints)
SERVICE BRAKES
1 complaintTHIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH ELECTRONICS STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) WHICH INCLUDES CROSSWIND ASSIST. THE CROSSWIND ASSIST IS THE SOURCE OF THE SAFETY PROBLEM. The crosswind assist will engage in strong crosswinds and in certain road conditions such as a dip in the road or an off camber dip it immediately brake one side or the other causing the vehicle to quickly and unexpectedly lurch to one side or the other. I've experienced this multiple times and it has the potential for causing serious accidents. I communicated this complaint to my Mercedes service tech. It is a known problem on both Metris and Sprinter vans. It cannot be disabled from ESC. I was shocked to find out this has been reported to Mercedes multiple times and there has been no corrective action. If this defect has not killed anyone yet (that we know of) it certainly will. Even though there are not that many Merceds vans on the road in the US this problem is very serious and needs to be addressed quickly. Please update me on this problem as soon as possible. I am very uncomfortable driving this vehicle in its current condition.

C300 Turn signal flashes 3 times then goes out dash says check left turn signal
Every time I start the car, the lights are fine and no messages in dash. As soon as I use the left turn signal, it flashes 3 times then goes out. Dash says check left turn signal. The same thing applies to one of the two front parking lights on each headlight unit (left and right) and and the left side indicator. I can drive all day with no problem but as soon as the automatic headlights come on the parking lights and side maker come on briefly then go out and I get messages for each on dash. Replaced both headlight/turn signal units and the exact same issue persists. Turn it off and it starts all over. Maybe unrelated but when I use rear defroster radio gets static; also volume knob in center dash is inconsistant but the volume buttons on the steering wheel work fine. More than a year

Look Up a VIN →How We Calculate Reliability Scores
Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.
Key Ranking Factors
Complaint Severity
NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.
Repair Costs
Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.
Recall Impact
Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.
Issue Diversity
Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.
Scores are grouped into four tiers:
- 80–100: Excellent — Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
- 60–79: Good — Reliable with some minor concerns
- 40–59: Mixed — Notable issues, research before buying
- 0–39: Risky — Significant problems, proceed with caution
Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
