BACK OVER PREVENTION

Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2024-2025 AMG EQE SUV 4MATIC vehicles. The external pedestrian warning sound may not continuously increase in volume as vehicle speed increases, due to a software error. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 141, "Minimum Sound Requirements for Hybrid Electric Vehicles."

Consequence

Insufficient pedestrian warning sounds may fail to alert pedestrians of an approaching vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will update the Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 12, 2026. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on December 5, 2025. MBUSA's number for this recall is 2025120003.

STEERING

Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2023-2026 EQE and GLC vehicles. Please see the recall report for a complete list of models. The steering coupling bolt may have been improperly tightened, allowing the steering coupling to loosen from the steering rack.

Consequence

A loose steering coupling can cause a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will tighten the steering coupling bolts as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 6, 2025. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372.

As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 141, "Minimum Sound Requirements for Hybrid Electric Vehicles."

Consequence

A vehicle that makes an incorrect sound may fail to alert pedestrians of a reversing vehicle, increasing the risk of crash.

Owners of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQE report several issues primarily related to the panoramic sunroof and unintended acceleration. Complaints frequently mention the sunroof shattering spontaneously while driving, with no external impact or debris, and glass falling into the vehicle, posing a significant safety hazard. Additionally, one report describes unintended acceleration leading to a crash, despite the vehicle recording no pressure on the accelerator and significant pressure on the brake pedal. These issues occur across varying conditions and mileage, with multiple instances of sunroof failure reported both on freeways and side streets. Used car buyers should be aware of these potential safety implications, as the sunroof issue is consistently denied warranty coverage by dealers.

Twice, the car has autonomously braked when there was no threat to the car. The first time we were subsequently rear ended, though fortunately at low speed. There was cosmetic damage to the bumpers of both cars and the occupants were shaken up, but not injured. The second time the were driving at about 35mph when the car slammed on the brakes. Fortunately the following vehicle was not close and there was no collision. The occupants were again shaken up, but not injured. The "braking assistance" can be disabled, but only for the current trip. It is automatically reenabled the next time the car is started.

TIRES

On [XXX] around [XXX] while driving my 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQE350 [XXX] near Santa Clarita, CA, I experienced a flat tire due to a 4 mm puncture in the center tread of the rear driver's side tire. I immediately contacted Mercedes Me customer support , and the representative advised me that my vehicle's run-flat tire system would allow me to continue driving up to 50 miles, as long as I stayed under 50 mph. I followed this guidance very cautiously, driving under 30 mph. Despite this, the tire completely blew out in less than10 miles. The road conditions were normal, the tire was in good condition prior to the incident, and weather was mild. This incident endangered my safety and that of my wife and our toddler, who were in the vehicle with me at the time and was extremely frightened by the sudden blowout. I believe the run-flat system failed to perform as expected and/or the advice I received from Mercedes Me was unsafe and caused more damage to my vehicle and put my family in more danger. I am submitting this report in case other Mercedes EQE owners experience similar failures. I request that NHTSA investigate whether this represents a design flaw or safety hazard in the vehicle's tire/run-flat system? How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent — Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good — Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed — Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky — Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
