102 owner complaints grouped by vehicle system.
POWER TRAIN
29 complaintsOwners of the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer frequently report issues related to the vehicle's gear shifter, particularly a "Shift to Park" error. This error often prevents the vehicle from shutting off as expected, with symptoms including dashboard warnings, persistent beeping, and battery drainage due to the vehicle remaining in Accessory Mode. Complaints often occur around 30,000 to 50,000 miles, with some owners noting repeated dealer visits and repairs, such as replacing the shifter assembly. Additionally, some owners describe intermittent loss of acceleration at highway speeds, which can pose safety risks. These issues may result in significant inconvenience and potential safety hazards for used car buyers.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER
24 complaintsOwners report a recurring issue with the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer where the vehicle fails to recognize when it is in park, triggering a "Shift to Park" message even when the shifter is in the correct position. This problem often prevents the car from turning off completely, leading to battery drain and the inability to lock the vehicle. Complaints frequently mention this issue occurring as early as 10 days after purchase and around 23,000 miles. Additionally, there are reports of exhaust system failures due to rusting bolts, leading to potential hazards at high speeds. While there are no direct reports of crashes or injuries, the inability to turn off the vehicle or secure it properly poses a safety risk, particularly if the battery dies unexpectedly.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
15 complaintsOwners of the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer frequently report issues with the vehicle's "Shift to Park" feature, where the vehicle does not recognize it is in park, preventing the vehicle from shutting off. Complaints describe needing to shift through gears or manipulate the gear shifter multiple times to resolve the issue temporarily. This problem often arises after approximately 19,700 to 44,000 miles. Additionally, some owners report problems with door lock actuators not functioning properly, posing a potential safety risk by preventing doors from locking or unlocking as needed. No reports of crashes, fires, or loss of control are noted, but the inability to turn off the vehicle and door lock failures could be concerning for potential buyers.
SERVICE BRAKES (9 complaints)
SERVICE BRAKES
9 complaintsOwners report several issues with the service brakes on the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Complaints frequently mention brakes that squeal loudly, even after being cleaned or greased, with some owners noting this issue from as low as 9,000 miles. Multiple owners describe the brake pedal becoming firm or failing to engage properly, leading to concerns about the vehicle's ability to stop promptly. Some reports also highlight a brake pedal that sticks or requires manual adjustment to engage cruise control. These issues often occur at various mileage intervals, with some as early as 10,000 miles, and present potential safety implications, such as delayed braking response or unintended vehicle movement.
ENGINE (5 complaints)
ENGINE
5 complaintsOwners report issues with the exhaust system of the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer, specifically involving bolts and studs that connect the exhaust components. Complaints frequently mention that these bolts rust, leading to exhaust parts detaching while driving, with some incidents occurring at highway speeds. The mileage at which these issues occur varies, with one report at 65,000 miles. Additionally, there is a report of a purge pump failure at 33,442 miles, and another issue involving the engine entering a reduced power mode with no clear resolution from the dealership. Safety implications include the potential for the detached exhaust to cause accidents, particularly if it occurs at high speeds. These patterns suggest prospective buyers should inspect the exhaust system and confirm any unresolved engine issues.
STEERING (5 complaints)
STEERING
5 complaintsOwners of the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer frequently report issues with the steering system, often coinciding with warnings for "Service Power Steering" and "Service ESC." Common symptoms include difficulty steering, especially when error messages appear and disappear intermittently. These issues sometimes occur alongside braking problems, where the brake pedal may become hard to press or ineffective, as well as messages indicating the vehicle is not in park. Complaints typically arise around 3,000 to 15,000 miles, and some owners note that the vehicle may decelerate unexpectedly, posing potential safety risks. Buyers should be aware of these reported steering and braking concerns, which may require dealer intervention for resolution.
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE (4 complaints)
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
4 complaintsSafety-relatedOwners report issues with the forward collision avoidance systems in the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer, often describing unexpected braking while using adaptive cruise control, particularly at highway speeds. Complaints frequently mention system warnings such as "Forward Collision System Reduced," with some instances leading to crashes and one reported injury. These issues are noted at varying mileage levels, from under 2,000 miles to over 35,000 miles. Safety implications are significant, as two reports involve crashes where the system did not activate as expected, contributing to collisions. Buyers should be aware of potential malfunctions in the collision avoidance system and the challenges some owners face in obtaining timely dealership support for diagnostics and repairs.
STRUCTURE (3 complaints)
STRUCTURE
3 complaintsOwners of the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer frequently report issues with the exhaust system detaching, specifically mentioning that the exhaust and muffler can fall off the vehicle. Complaints often describe the failure of bolts or plastic brackets that hold the exhaust system in place, leading to the system dropping while driving. This issue appears to occur without any warning lights or signals, and owners express concern about the potential safety risks, such as loss of vehicle control or the risk of an accident if the exhaust system scrapes the road. Although specific mileage ranges are not detailed, multiple owners indicate that this problem is common and acknowledged by dealerships. These reports suggest that prospective buyers should be aware of potential structural vulnerabilities in the exhaust system of this model year.
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING (2 complaints)
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
2 complaintsOwners of the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer report issues related to the engine and engine cooling, specifically involving the evaporative emissions system and exhaust components. One complaint describes the check engine light illuminating at approximately 62,500 miles, linked to a failure of the Evaporator Emissions Canister Pump, which was not covered under a specific manufacturer program. Another issue involves the exhaust system, where bolts or studs corroded and broke after two years, causing the exhaust system to detach from the vehicle. These problems appear at varying mileages and there are no reports of crashes, fires, or loss of control directly related to these issues. Used car buyers should be aware of these potential maintenance concerns, particularly regarding emissions and exhaust system integrity.
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL (2 complaints)
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
2 complaintsOwners report two main issues with the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer's vehicle speed control. First, multiple owners describe the vehicle braking unexpectedly when using adaptive cruise control, particularly when encountering shadows on the road. Second, there are instances of unintended acceleration, with one owner noting the vehicle accelerated from 40 MPH to over 100 MPH and did not respond to brake inputs, requiring the driver to shift to park to stop the vehicle. This particular incident occurred at approximately 2,876 miles. These issues suggest potential safety implications, including loss of control, which may be a consideration for buyers assessing the vehicle's reliability.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores
Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.
Key Ranking Factors
Complaint Severity
NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.
Repair Costs
Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.
Recall Impact
Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.
Issue Diversity
Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.
Scores are grouped into four tiers:
- 80–100: Excellent— Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
- 60–79: Good— Reliable with some minor concerns
- 40–59: Mixed— Notable issues, research before buying
- 0–39: Risky— Significant problems, proceed with caution
Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
