ENGINE

5 complaints

Owners report several engine-related issues with the 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe, primarily involving engine failures and transmission problems. Complaints frequently mention occurrences of complete engine shutdowns, often accompanied by check engine lights and warning indicators, with some vehicles exhibiting loud knocking and squealing noises. Symptoms such as excessive crankshaft play and metal pieces in the oil are noted, with one vehicle diagnosed with a thrust bearing failure at 4,820 miles. Another common issue involves the transmission valve body, with one owner stating it failed shortly after purchase, leading to a check engine light and a backorder on necessary parts. These problems result in significant downtime, with some owners left without their vehicles for extended periods, and in one case, a vehicle became inoperable in a potentially unsafe location.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

3 complaints

Owners of the 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe report issues with the electrical system, primarily involving dashboard malfunctions and infotainment defects. Complaints frequently mention that the driver dash can freeze, rendering speed, blinker, and hazard indicators inoperative, while the center dash may shut down completely. These issues are reported at low mileages, such as around 3,380 miles, and can coincide with other significant vehicle failures, like engine problems. Safety implications include the inability to monitor vehicle speed or use emergency signals, which could pose risks, particularly while driving in adverse conditions. Potential buyers should be aware of these electrical concerns and the associated safety risks when considering this model.

SERVICE BRAKES

3 complaints

Owners of the 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe report issues primarily involving brake system failures and pedal interference. Common symptoms include brakes becoming unresponsive or requiring excessive pressure to engage, as well as a brake pedal design that causes the driver’s foot to catch when moving from the accelerator, delaying braking. These issues are noted soon after purchase, with one report specifically mentioning the problem occurring within days of ownership. Safety implications are significant, as one owner describes nearly running a red light due to brake failure, and another highlights the risk of collision during sudden stops because of pedal interference. Potential buyers should be aware of these reported issues, particularly concerning the brake system's reliability and pedal design.

3 complaints total
STEERING (2 complaints)

STEERING

2 complaints

Owners of the 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe report issues related to the steering system, with complaints mentioning loud noises from the steering column after the vehicle is turned off and a sensation of the vehicle wandering within its lane, which they attribute to steering wheel assists. These issues are reported alongside other system warnings such as "Service Steering Column Lock." One owner notes these problems occurring alongside engine knocking and ticking noises, which were temporarily resolved by an oil change but reappeared after a few hundred miles. Safety implications are highlighted by one owner's experience of brake failure, where multiple warning lights were triggered, including "Service Brake Assist" and "Service Traction Control," though the emergency brake successfully stopped the vehicle. These reports suggest potential safety concerns with both steering and braking systems.

When backing up the auto braking brakes very hard sudden stop without warning even though no objects near by. Appears to be from shadows and made worse when it is raining and the camera has water on the lense. I turned off the backup auto braking and it still does it. It brakes hard enough that it pinched a nerve in my neck causing sudden pain which chipped a tooth

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent — Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good — Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed — Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky — Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
