EXTERIOR LIGHTING

9 complaints

Owners report two primary issues with the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq's exterior lighting. First, multiple complaints describe that the dashboard and instrument panel dim prematurely during dusk and dawn, making it difficult to see vital information like speed and turn signals. This dimming occurs when the vehicle's sensor detects low light, yet it cannot be adjusted to improve visibility until full darkness. Second, several owners note a problem with the headlights drooping or sagging after a few minutes of driving, significantly reducing visibility and making night driving hazardous. This issue is reportedly intermittent and resolves temporarily by restarting the vehicle. These problems are noted by owners both shortly after purchase and after several weeks, indicating no clear mileage range for onset.

9 complaints total

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

4 complaints

Owners of the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq report issues primarily related to the vehicle's electrical system, including inoperable screens and electronic malfunctions. Complaints frequently mention the left portion of the screen becoming non-functional, affecting the display of critical information like speed and gear selection. Additionally, some owners describe being locked out of their vehicle with key fobs failing to authorize entry, and others experience total electronic failure preventing the vehicle from starting. Affected vehicles often have low mileage, with one report at 500 miles. Safety implications include potential driving hazards due to lack of vital information and immobilization due to electronic failures.

BACK OVER PREVENTION

2 complaintsSafety-related

Owners report issues with the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq's back over prevention system, including screens going black and causing a loss of visual aid while reversing. One owner describes a crash resulting from the screen going black, which had been a recurring issue since acquiring the vehicle. Another owner notes the vehicle automatically braking at low speeds without an apparent obstruction. These complaints highlight potential safety implications, such as collisions and unintended braking, that prospective buyers should consider.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE (2 complaints)

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

2 complaints

Owners of the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq report issues with the forward collision avoidance system. One common failure pattern includes unexpected braking while using the Super Cruise feature, with a sudden deceleration from 70 MPH to 40 MPH, accompanied by a "Service Driver Assist" warning. Another issue involves the surround vision feature failing to detect nearby objects, triggering warning lights related to autonomous driving and adaptive cruise control. These problems are reported at low mileages, such as 3,100 miles, and may involve safety implications due to unexpected vehicle behavior. Prospective buyers should be aware of these potential electronic system malfunctions.

2 complaints

Owners of the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq report issues with the vehicle's regenerative braking system and overall brake functionality. Complaints frequently mention that the regenerative braking setting can unexpectedly reset to "Off," leading to an absence of expected braking force. Additionally, some owners describe complete brake failure, with both the one-pedal driving and normal braking systems becoming unresponsive, accompanied by dashboard warnings such as "Brake System Failure" and various alert icons. These issues have been reported to occur without prior warning, posing potential safety risks including near-miss accidents. While specific mileage ranges are not mentioned, the described symptoms indicate significant safety implications for potential buyers to consider.

2 complaints total
POWER TRAIN (2 complaints)

POWER TRAIN

2 complaints

Owners of the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq report issues related to the power train, particularly involving the 12-volt battery. Complaints frequently mention that the 12-volt battery can die unexpectedly, leaving owners unable to access their vehicles unless manually entering through the trunk. This problem has occurred even when the main battery is sufficiently charged, and owners suggest it may be linked to stalled over-the-air updates. Additionally, some owners have experienced a total loss of power, necessitating the vehicle to be towed multiple times within the first 4,000 miles. These issues have potential safety implications, as they can leave drivers stranded and unable to use the vehicle's electronic systems.

Driving on connecter road between 2 freeways at 35-40 mph because of traffic. Suddenly the car veers to left on its own and hits concrete lane guiding wall damaging the left front of the car. Next tried to brake and they didn't work. Unable to steer the car it heads to the right and up on the rocks decorating of the road. Car goes another 25 or more feet before stopping due to rocks slowing down the car. The air-bags never deployed. Tried to contact SOS button but didn't work. Next contacted ONSTAR but they were no help and didn't show that an accident occurred and said call 911 which was done. Ever since the purchase of this EV car have been having trouble with it. The Emergency light (red car on dashboard) lit up and went to dealer who kept the car over a week. Green car worked for a while but occasionally turned red. Went to dealer again. Also, one day the steering wheel would not work until tried several time to restart the car. Dealer managed to break the steering wheel and repaired it. They also cracked the glass on the computer screen but denied they did it. Was planning to enact the Lemon Law on the car. Car now in repair shop. VELLOCITY COLLISION CENTER, 8765 LINDELL RD STE 100, LAS VEGAS, NV 89139 TEL 7028971320. Called GM Cadillac to inform them of information on accident. They said they would report this to the engineers there and report back to me. That was right after the accident but they have never tried to contact me.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

I was in a left hand turn lane. When I started to make the turn my vehicle lurched and stopped. I tried several times to go and this behavior repeated. Onstar called me (or I called them). They called 911 for me and a fire truck was dispatched to help me. I was in the intersection and afraid to try anything else until the fire truck arrived to control the traffic so I could be moved from the intersection. When they arrived I was able to put the vehicle in drive and drive it out of the intersection and then home. When I got home, I had Onstar run a diagnostic and there was an error code for the high voltage battery. I had previously reported to my dealer that I was getting alerts to service the high voltage battery (on the myCadillac app). They were unable to find a problem. No crash happened this time, but if it occurred when I was in front of oncoming traffic then a crash may have occurred.

Rear view camera system display (360 surround) was completely inoperative. Rear view camera display did not appear on IP display when vehicle was shifted into reverse, nor did it appear when the "camera" app was selected from the center display. No warning messages present; OnStar remote code read indicated no codes. Danger is to others behind the vehicle, particularly children in blind spot. Problem persisted over several trips until I disconnected and reconnected the vehicle's 12 volt battery, and now everything is working correctly. Did not take vehicle to dealer now that everything is working; suspect software issue cleared by "vehicle reboot"

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent— Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good— Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed— Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky— Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.

Get notified when new recalls or reliability data is added for the Cadillac Lyriq.
