2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE Common Problems by Component
59 owner complaints grouped by vehicle system.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER
6 complaintsOwners of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE report several issues under the unknown or other category, with the most common being problems with the panoramic sunroof. Two owners describe incidents where the sunroof or related glass exploded, one while driving and another while parked, leading to concerns about potential injuries. Another frequent issue involves the vehicle's performance, where a dashboard message indicates "performance extremely limited," causing significant power loss and acceleration issues, which has led to multiple service visits without resolution. Additionally, owners mention problems with the reverse sensors failing to alert properly, resulting in property damage, and a loud noise from the camera shutter at low speeds, described as distracting. These issues appear within the first few months of ownership and present potential safety implications, particularly regarding the sunroof and power loss during driving.
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
4 complaintsOwners report issues with the vehicle speed control system in the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE, particularly involving cruise control and speed recognition. Complaints frequently mention the car mistakenly reading speed limit signs, leading to inappropriate braking or deceleration, such as slowing from 70 MPH to 15 MPH unexpectedly. Multiple owners describe sudden deceleration with warning lights and messages, including a "performance extremely limited" warning, often occurring at low mileages around 1,500 miles. These incidents pose potential safety risks, such as rear-end collisions or loss of control, especially on highways or in traffic. Buyers should be aware of these recurring issues and the challenges in obtaining effective repairs, as reported by owners.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
4 complaintsOwners report several electrical system issues with the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE. A recurring problem involves the vehicle's 12 V battery draining completely, leaving drivers stranded and necessitating towing. Another issue frequently mentioned is the vehicle's power lock system malfunctioning, auto-locking with keys and phones inside, even when designed to prevent such occurrences, posing a potential safety risk, especially in hot weather. At around 3,000 miles, some owners experience sudden deceleration from 60 mph to 10 mph without warning, accompanied by a "PERFORMANCE EXTREMELY LIMITED" message, leading to dangerous situations on highways. Additionally, the Traffic Sign Assist feature fails to display road signs or speed limits despite being an optional purchase. These issues highlight potential safety implications and operational concerns for prospective buyers.
SERVICE BRAKES (4 complaints)
SERVICE BRAKES
4 complaintsOwners of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE frequently report issues related to the service brakes, with symptoms including a popping noise when applying the brake pedal and inadequate braking performance. One complaint describes a near-miss incident due to brakes not functioning properly, while another notes that the brakes "do not work good." Additionally, an owner references a safety recall involving a software error in the ESP unit, which increases the risk of a crash, and mentions a lack of available remedy. These complaints suggest potential safety implications, such as the risk of collision, and indicate that the issues are present from the time of purchase or lease, as no specific mileage is mentioned. Buyers should be aware of these reported issues and the ongoing recall when considering this model.
VISIBILITY (3 complaints)
VISIBILITY
3 complaintsOwners of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE report visibility-related issues primarily involving windshield wiper performance and washer fluid system malfunctions. Complaints frequently mention that the windshield wipers fail to clear the windshield effectively due to a design issue, particularly in wet conditions, which impacts visibility. Another issue described is the washer fluid reservoir leaking immediately after being refilled, with parts being on backorder, preventing immediate repairs. Additionally, one report involves a sunroof shattering without impact while driving at high speed, though no injuries occurred. These issues are noted at mileages ranging from 0 to 12,000, with potential safety implications due to reduced visibility and unexpected sunroof failure.
POWER TRAIN (3 complaints)
POWER TRAIN
3 complaintsSafety-relatedOwners report that the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE exhibits issues with the power train, particularly involving unexpected transmission behavior and electronic malfunctions. Complaints frequently mention the vehicle unexpectedly stalling and entering a "limp mode," as indicated by a turtle symbol on the dashboard, leading to a loss of acceleration and reduced power. Additionally, there is a report of the automatic braking system engaging without reason and the transmission shifting into reverse while moving forward, resulting in a crash. These issues appear to occur in vehicles with varying timelines of use, with one owner experiencing problems after a major drive following a period of limited use. Safety implications include the potential for crashes due to sudden braking and unintended reverse gear engagement.
STRUCTURE (3 complaints)
STRUCTURE
3 complaintsOwners report issues with the glass panel between the windshield and sunroof on the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE, with multiple instances of the panel shattering spontaneously. Complaints frequently mention that the glass cracks across its full width, sometimes without any apparent impact or warning. One owner notes a louder wind noise prior to the glass cracking, while another describes discovering the damage upon reaching their destination. These incidents occur without any reported crashes or loss of control, but there is concern about potential safety risks if the panel detaches while driving. No specific mileage or timeline patterns emerge from the available complaints.

C300 Turn signal flashes 3 times then goes out dash says check left turn signal
Every time I start the car, the lights are fine and no messages in dash. As soon as I use the left turn signal, it flashes 3 times then goes out. Dash says check left turn signal. The same thing applies to one of the two front parking lights on each headlight unit (left and right) and and the left side indicator. I can drive all day with no problem but as soon as the automatic headlights come on the parking lights and side maker come on briefly then go out and I get messages for each on dash. Replaced both headlight/turn signal units and the exact same issue persists. Turn it off and it starts all over. Maybe unrelated but when I use rear defroster radio gets static; also volume knob in center dash is inconsistant but the volume buttons on the steering wheel work fine. More than a year

How We Calculate Reliability Scores
Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.
Key Ranking Factors
Complaint Severity
NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.
Repair Costs
Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.
Recall Impact
Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.
Issue Diversity
Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.
Scores are grouped into four tiers:
- 80–100: Excellent — Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
- 60–79: Good — Reliable with some minor concerns
- 40–59: Mixed — Notable issues, research before buying
- 0–39: Risky — Significant problems, proceed with caution
Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
