UNKNOWN OR OTHER

6 complaints

Owners of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE report several issues under the unknown or other category, with the most common being problems with the panoramic sunroof. Two owners describe incidents where the sunroof or related glass exploded, one while driving and another while parked, leading to concerns about potential injuries. Another frequent issue involves the vehicle's performance, where a dashboard message indicates "performance extremely limited," causing significant power loss and acceleration issues, which has led to multiple service visits without resolution. Additionally, owners mention problems with the reverse sensors failing to alert properly, resulting in property damage, and a loud noise from the camera shutter at low speeds, described as distracting. These issues appear within the first few months of ownership and present potential safety implications, particularly regarding the sunroof and power loss during driving.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

4 complaints

Owners report issues with the vehicle speed control system in the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE, particularly involving cruise control and speed recognition. Complaints frequently mention the car mistakenly reading speed limit signs, leading to inappropriate braking or deceleration, such as slowing from 70 MPH to 15 MPH unexpectedly. Multiple owners describe sudden deceleration with warning lights and messages, including a "performance extremely limited" warning, often occurring at low mileages around 1,500 miles. These incidents pose potential safety risks, such as rear-end collisions or loss of control, especially on highways or in traffic. Buyers should be aware of these recurring issues and the challenges in obtaining effective repairs, as reported by owners.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

4 complaints

Owners report several electrical system issues with the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE. A recurring problem involves the vehicle's 12 V battery draining completely, leaving drivers stranded and necessitating towing. Another issue frequently mentioned is the vehicle's power lock system malfunctioning, auto-locking with keys and phones inside, even when designed to prevent such occurrences, posing a potential safety risk, especially in hot weather. At around 3,000 miles, some owners experience sudden deceleration from 60 mph to 10 mph without warning, accompanied by a "PERFORMANCE EXTREMELY LIMITED" message, leading to dangerous situations on highways. Additionally, the Traffic Sign Assist feature fails to display road signs or speed limits despite being an optional purchase. These issues highlight potential safety implications and operational concerns for prospective buyers.

On the 2024 Mercedes GLE 350, the speedometer/tachometer lighting does not dim to a safe or comfortable level during night driving. The dimmer switch functions between two levels of "bright and brighter" which affects night vision and makes it near impossible to see down the road. The lighting was tested by a Mercedes technician during the day, against another 2024 Mercedes. Mercedes corporate requested we schedule another appointment? which is on 20 DEC 24. We are requesting they use a "light meter/lux meter/illuminance meter" to determine the lumens per square inch or a photometer to measure the light intensity.

C300 Turn signal flashes 3 times then goes out dash says check left turn signal

Every time I start the car, the lights are fine and no messages in dash. As soon as I use the left turn signal, it flashes 3 times then goes out. Dash says check left turn signal. The same thing applies to one of the two front parking lights on each headlight unit (left and right) and and the left side indicator. I can drive all day with no problem but as soon as the automatic headlights come on the parking lights and side maker come on briefly then go out and I get messages for each on dash. Replaced both headlight/turn signal units and the exact same issue persists. Turn it off and it starts all over. How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent — Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good — Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed — Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky — Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
