ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain Genesis 2025-2026 G80, GV80, 2026 G80 "Electrified," GV60, GV70 "Electrified" and GV70 vehicles. Due to a software error, the instrument panel display may fail. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 101, "Controls and Displays."
Consequence
An instrument panel display that fails to show critical safety information, such as the speedometer or fuel gauge, increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Owners are advised to disable the high definition (HD) radio feature until the recall remedy has been performed. The audio video navigation software will be updated over-the-air (OTA) or inspected and updated by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed beginning February 17, 2026. Owners may contact Genesis customer service at 844-340-9741. Hyundai's number for this recall is 031G. Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2025 Tucson, 2025-2026 Santa Cruz, Santa Fe, Santa Fe Hybrid, and 2026 Genesis GV70 vehicles. The side curtain air bags may not have been installed properly, which can cause the air bags not to deploy as intended.
Consequence
Side curtain air bags that do not deploy as intended increase the risk of injury in a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will reinstall the side curtain air bags, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed beginning December 29, 2025. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. 2026 Genesis GV70 Common Problems by Component
14 owner complaints grouped by vehicle system.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
9 complaintsOwners report several issues with the electrical systems of the 2026 Genesis GV70, with multiple complaints about the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) failing, leading to "power limited" warnings and the need for towing. Instrument cluster malfunctions are also frequently mentioned, where the display goes blank or reboots unexpectedly, affecting vehicle operation visibility. These issues are noted at varying mileages, some as low as 475 miles, suggesting early onset. Some owners express concerns about safety, particularly when displays fail at high speeds, potentially leading to distraction or inability to access critical vehicle functions like climate control. These patterns could be useful for prospective buyers to consider, especially when evaluating the vehicle's reliability in terms of electronic components.
ENGINE
2 complaintsOwners report two primary issues with the 2026 Genesis GV70 in the engine category. One complaint describes unintended acceleration occurring when the engine is cold, causing the vehicle to accelerate by itself, notably when coasting, which nearly resulted in a collision with a garage door. Another owner describes a sudden engine shutdown while driving on the highway, accompanied by gas fumes entering the vehicle, which compromised safety as the car lost power and the driver was unable to exit safely. Both complaints involve vehicles with very low mileage, one specifically at 53 miles, indicating these issues may manifest early in the vehicle's use. The safety implications include potential collisions due to unintended acceleration and hazardous exposure to gas fumes during an engine shutdown.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER
1 complaintWithout any warning, on March 15, 2026, I turned out of a parking lot onto a major road and I noticed it wouldn't accelerate above 20 mph, so I pulled off the road. I tried again and my vehicle still failed to accelerate. And on my third attempt, my vehicle decelerated and was about to completely stall. I managed to turn into a parking lot and avoid getting rear ended. However, this could have been a fatal event. While I was trying to accelerate, the vehicle was quiet as if the car wasn't even running. After shutting the engine off for awhile, I was able to drive the vehicle with caution. I reached out to two Genesis service departments regarding my vehicle failing to accelerate while driving and neither had heard any previous complaints, and the earliest appointment would be mid April. There was no sense of urgency, as I'm left to hesitantly drive my vehicle at the risk of it happening again and getting rear ended. And when my vehicle does go in for service, I'm weary whether the problem will be resolved properly since the service department is unaware of the issue. In addition, I have had this vehicle for only 4 months and 1 month into it, I already took it to service because of fuel odor that had not gone away since the day 1. But the service department didn't find anything wrong with the vehicle, so nothing was done to it. I also swung by another Genesis service department, in case they happened to be familiar with the cause of the odor. My vehicle still has the fuel odor and now I'm wondering if that is related to my vehicle not accelerating. I am seeking your assistance to ensure that the problems with my vehicle are confidently resolved. And I wouldn't want this to happen to anyone else. I am thankful, I was driving and not my teen.
SERVICE BRAKES (1 complaints)
SERVICE BRAKES
1 complaintOn [XXX], the vehicle was started and there were no brakes, the pedal went down to the floor. The car was turned off, restarted and again there were no brakes. The third time the car was restarted, the pedal went to the floor and then the brake pedal came back up with pressure in the brake lines. The vehicle displayed the warning "check brake system". The car was not driven. The next day, [XXX], a wrecker arrived to tow the car to Bergstrom Genesis, the car was started and again had no brakes. We were told that it was software problem and were given the vehicle back on 12/10/25. On [XXX], while driving the vehicle, the "check engine" light was displayed. The vehicle was picked up by Bergstrom Genesis and the dealership has had the vehicle since 12/11/25 to make sure the brakes don't fail again INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

How We Calculate Reliability Scores
Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.
Key Ranking Factors
Complaint Severity
NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.
Repair Costs
Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.
Recall Impact
Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.
Issue Diversity
Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.
Scores are grouped into four tiers:
- 80–100: Excellent— Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
- 60–79: Good— Reliable with some minor concerns
- 40–59: Mixed— Notable issues, research before buying
- 0–39: Risky— Significant problems, proceed with caution
Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
