6 complaintsOwners report that the 2022 Genesis GV70 frequently experiences engine stalling and power loss while driving, with multiple complaints highlighting issues related to the fuel pump. Symptoms commonly described include the engine shutting down unexpectedly, inability to accelerate, and the need to restart the vehicle to temporarily restore normal function. These incidents often occur in traffic, posing significant safety risks such as potential crashes, especially on highways. Several owners mention that the vehicle diagnostic systems do not detect any issues, complicating diagnosis and resolution. Complaints do not specify mileage ranges, but multiple reports indicate the problem persists over several weeks or months, with some vehicles being out of service for extended periods.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM (6 complaints)
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
6 complaintsSafety-relatedOwners of the 2022 Genesis GV70 report significant issues with the vehicle's electrical system, particularly related to water intrusion through the sunroof drainage system. Complaints frequently mention water accumulation in the interior, leading to electrical malfunctions such as false activations of the forward collision avoidance system and other safety-critical failures. Multiple owners describe persistent warning lights for various systems and difficulties with electronic door and tailgate operations. A Technical Service Bulletin acknowledges the drainage system defect, but some owners report difficulties obtaining timely repairs. One complaint involves a crash with no injuries, highlighting potential safety risks. These issues are reported at various mileage levels, with one case noted at approximately 62,308 miles.
STEERING (4 complaints)
STEERING
4 complaintsOwners report multiple steering-related issues with the 2022 Genesis GV70. Complaints frequently mention sudden stiffness in steering, accompanied by alarms and dashboard warnings, occurring at both city and highway speeds. Some owners describe the vehicle swerving unexpectedly, even with lane assist features turned off, and experiencing difficulties maintaining control. These issues are noted to occur randomly and have been reported over a span of approximately two years. Safety implications include potential loss of control, posing a risk of accidents, especially at higher speeds.
SUSPENSION (4 complaints)
SUSPENSION
4 complaintsSafety-relatedOwners report issues with the suspension of the 2022 Genesis GV70, particularly involving the front strut assembly. Complaints frequently mention the front strut pushing through the engine casing and hitting the hood, often after encountering potholes or curbs. One incident resulted in a crash when the vehicle veered sharply, allegedly due to a suspension failure, causing significant damage and posing a potential safety risk. Symptoms described include loud noises and visible damage to the strut and surrounding components, with no advance warning signs. These issues suggest potential safety implications, including loss of control, and are noted by multiple owners as occurring after minor impacts.
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL (4 complaints)
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
4 complaintsOwners of the 2022 Genesis GV70 frequently report issues with vehicle speed control, particularly involving sudden loss of acceleration. Complaints often describe the car slowing down abruptly, sometimes not exceeding speeds of 15-20 mph, even when the accelerator is pressed. These incidents typically occur in traffic or on highways, posing significant safety risks due to the potential for rear-end collisions. Several reports indicate the problem may persist even after attempts to fix it, such as replacing the fuel pump. One owner notes that a dealer suggested the issue might be linked to the vehicle being in Eco mode. Additionally, some complaints highlight that the forward collision and adaptive cruise control systems may fail in snowy conditions due to sensor obstruction, although this is a separate issue from the speed control complaints.
SEAT BELTS (3 complaints)
SEAT BELTS
3 complaintsSafety-relatedOwners of the 2022 Genesis GV70 report issues with the seat belt system, including failure to restrain during a crash and excessive retraction force. In one incident, a seat belt reportedly did not restrain a driver during a collision, resulting in a fatality. Another complaint describes aggressive retraction of the seat belt, which the owner believes may have contributed to a serious injury during a rear-end collision. Additionally, a recall is mentioned concerning the seat belt pretensioner potentially deploying abnormally, which could lead to metal fragments causing injury. How We Calculate Reliability Scores
Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.
Key Ranking Factors
Complaint Severity
NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.
Repair Costs
Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.
Recall Impact
Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.
Issue Diversity
Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.
Scores are grouped into four tiers:
- 80–100: Excellent— Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
- 60–79: Good— Reliable with some minor concerns
- 40–59: Mixed— Notable issues, research before buying
- 0–39: Risky— Significant problems, proceed with caution
Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
Get notified when new recalls or reliability data is added for the Genesis GV70.
