2024 Genesis GV70 Common Problems by Component
17 owner complaints grouped by vehicle system.
POWER TRAIN
6 complaintsOwners of the 2024 Genesis GV70 frequently report issues with the power train, notably sudden loss of acceleration and shaking at certain speeds. Common symptoms include the vehicle failing to accelerate past 40-42 MPH, unexpected shifting from drive to neutral, and significant shaking between 40-75 MPH. These issues often arise at various mileages, with some reports at as low as 6,500 miles. Safety implications are noted, as some drivers have experienced near-miss accidents due to the loss of acceleration, particularly when merging onto highways. Buyers should be aware of potential unresolved issues even after multiple service visits and repairs.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER
5 complaintsOwners of the 2024 Genesis GV70 report issues primarily related to unexpected loss of power and unusual noise. Multiple complaints describe instances where the vehicle loses acceleration without warning, sometimes in potentially dangerous situations, such as busy streets. These incidents typically occur without any dashboard warnings or error codes, making diagnosis challenging. In addition, some owners mention intermittent loud noises, such as a whirling or whooshing sound, especially at highway speeds, which can be distracting and concerning. These issues are noted in vehicles shortly after purchase, with some owners struggling to find resolutions through dealership service visits. Safety implications include the risk of accidents due to sudden power loss and the potential for distraction caused by the noise.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
1 complaintI am filing this formal complaint against Genesis Motor America (a division of Hyundai Motor America) for the repeated failure to repair my defective 2024 Genesis GV70. The vehicle has been a nightmare of safety hazards, financial ruin, and life degradation, with over 240 days out of service in 8 months. This saga began as a dream purchase, but quickly turned into a relentless horror story of mechanical and ADAS failures, dealer incompetence, and manufacturer indifference. The vehicle has been in the shop on six separate occasions under three (3) different dealers, with collective downtime exceeding 240 days, far surpassing Florida's Lemon Law thresholds (3+ repair attempts for the same defect or 15+ days out of service).
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL (1 complaints)
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
1 complaintThe digital instrument cluster in my 2024 Genesis GV70 has failed multiple times while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealership on December 20, 2025 for instrument cluster malfunction. The vehicle remained in the shop for approximately four weeks, and the instrument cluster module was replaced. The vehicle was returned to me on January 19, 2026 with representation that the issue had been corrected. On February 8, 2026, only 20 days after the repair, the instrument cluster failed again while the vehicle was in operation. The panel was completely inoperative for approximately two hours. During the failure: Speedometer was not visible, Warning lights were not visible, Fuel gauge was not visible, Safety indicators were not visible, signal lights not working, Automatic Engine Start/Stop system control not working. Entire console goes out. Operating a vehicle without access to critical driving information presents a safety hazard.
EXTERIOR LIGHTING (1 complaints)
EXTERIOR LIGHTING
1 complaintBoth of my front headlights get condensation to the point of droplets every time it rains, or I go through the car wash. My car is a 2024. Genesis has implied that it is "normal" after I contacted my dealer in Richmond, Virginia. I am retired, so I don't usually drive a night. Would having fogged out lens degrade the performance of my headlights? I'm [XXX] and owned many cars. This is the first brand new car that has had this issue. It should be noted that the lens do clear up after the sun hits them for a few days. My car is not garaged so it is exposed to the rain. FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM (1 complaints)
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
1 complaintPulling out of parking lot onto street and car would not accelerate beyond 10 miles a hr Pedal was to the floor and didn't change speed. Read on forum this is a known issue. Possibly fuel issue. No DTC code is issued. Dealer could not replicate, which I read on forum was known. Worried about this happening again or on highway.
STEERING (1 complaints)
STEERING
1 complaint•Malfunctions: •Brakes: Failed multiple times, including during a critical incident on 11/9/2024, where I couldn’t stop the car, risking a severe collision. •Steering: The steering system failed during the same event, making the car uncontrollable. •Acceleration: The vehicle unexpectedly accelerated on multiple occasions, including on 4/16/2024, creating dangerous driving conditions. •These components are available for inspection. •Safety Risks: •My safety was at extreme risk when the car unexpectedly accelerated, and I couldn’t stop it, narrowly avoiding a collision with gas tanks, which could have been catastrophic. •Inspection and Diagnosis: •The dealership inspected the car on 4/16/2024 and 10/11/2024, but no faults were found, despite my concerns. They only drove the car briefly and did not adequately investigate the braking or steering issues. •No diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) were found, contradicting the malfunctions I experienced. •Inspection by Others: •The car was assessed by my insurance company, who initially missed wheel damages, later correcting the report after I pointed it out. •I also reached out to Genesis customer care but received no comprehensive response regarding the ongoing safety issues. •Symptoms Prior to Failure: •On 11/9/2024, the check engine light illuminated, but by the time I could schedule an appointment, it disappeared. Previous brake and steering issues were noted but not adequately investigated.
STRUCTURE (1 complaints)
STRUCTURE
1 complaintThe passenger side sideview mirror of my vehicle folds to a closing position while the vehicle is in motion. This has occurred a few times today creating a safety hazard for the occupants of my vehicle and other drivers as I have lost visibility on that side of the vehicle while on the road. I have re-opened the mirror and after a few mins it closes up on its own again. Upon contacting the dealer, they informed me that they don't have any available appointments until 11/15. I reached out to Genesis Corporate and they changed my service dealership. I also informed them of what occurred. I have contacted 2 other dealership to obtain a quick appointment and there is no appointments available.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores
Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.
Key Ranking Factors
Complaint Severity
NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.
Repair Costs
Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.
Recall Impact
Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.
Issue Diversity
Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.
Scores are grouped into four tiers:
- 80–100: Excellent— Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
- 60–79: Good— Reliable with some minor concerns
- 40–59: Mixed— Notable issues, research before buying
- 0–39: Risky— Significant problems, proceed with caution
Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
Get notified when new recalls or reliability data is added for the Genesis GV70.
