SERVICE BRAKES

7 complaints

Owners report frequent issues with the master brake cylinder in the 2025 Chevrolet Colorado, with symptoms typically including brake pedal failure, warning lights for ABS, ESC, and brake assist systems, and error messages indicating brake system failure. Complaints often describe the brake pedal going to the floor with minimal braking capability, and warning lights appearing shortly after purchase, often within the first few thousand miles. Some owners mention the inability to safely drive the vehicle, requiring immediate dealership intervention, and note that the part is on national backorder. These issues raise potential safety concerns due to the risk of brake failure while driving, which could lead to loss of vehicle control. Multiple complaints suggest that this is a known issue affecting not only the Colorado but possibly other models as well.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

4 complaints

Owners report that the 2025 Chevrolet Colorado frequently experiences issues with the electrical system, particularly when using heated seats and the heated steering wheel. Complaints consistently describe headlights pulsating or dimming, which occurs both at idle and while driving, posing potential safety concerns due to reduced nighttime visibility. This issue is noted by owners to occur consistently when these features are activated, and some have experienced it as early as 2,300 miles. Additionally, one owner describes the instrument cluster going black upon vehicle start, with a technical service bulletin acknowledged by dealers but no immediate repair available. These patterns suggest potential visibility and operational challenges that prospective buyers should consider.

4 complaints total

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

2 complaints

Owners report two primary issues with the 2025 Chevrolet Colorado's audio and infotainment systems. The first issue involves an unexpected and extreme audio volume spike from the BOSE sound system upon vehicle startup, causing ear pain and distress, with one incident resulting in an injury. This occurs immediately after startup and affects the turn-signal chime volume as well. The second issue involves the infotainment system going blank or displaying a software update failure message, sometimes accompanied by a complete loss of dashboard functionality, including the speedometer and fuel gauge. These issues are reported within the first few weeks of ownership, and one owner notes that the problem persists without a current fix available from dealerships. Safety implications include the potential distraction and lack of critical driving information due to the inoperative dashboard.

POWER TRAIN (2 complaints)

POWER TRAIN

2 complaints

Owners of the 2025 Chevrolet Colorado report experiencing significant transmission failures, often at low mileage, with one case occurring at just 400 miles. Common symptoms include a complete loss of acceleration, grinding sounds, and the vehicle entering "Limp Mode," which allows for limited movement. These incidents frequently happen while driving on highways or main roads, which poses a safety risk due to potential rear-end collisions. In one report, a replacement transmission also failed due to metal debris, indicating possible issues with factory components. This information is critical for potential buyers, particularly those who frequently drive in high-speed traffic environments.

When I try to accelerate some times my truck doesn’t go. It’s like it’s not even in drive. The check engine light is on and the dealership that I bought it from told me just to drive it because they don’t have a loaner vehicle at this time. That it won’t hurt the vehicle to drive but it’s unsafe to drive. I step on the gas and it doesn’t go. I could be hit if I’m trying to move when in traffic. Also my truck only had 5200 miles on it when this started and I’ve only had it since 16 July 2025.

My 2025 Chevrolet Colorado continues to experience roof denting caused by the vehicle’s structural weakness in the roof panel when exposed to normal car-wash air dryers. This problem began in 2023 with my previous model year Colorado, and it has carried into the 2025 model despite GM having issued an internal service advisory in 2023 describing the need to install additional roof braces to prevent this exact failure. GM acknowledged the issue two years ago but did not incorporate the recommended reinforcement into manufacturing. As a result, even routine exposure to the forced air from automated car-wash dryers causes the roof to bend inward. I have had this inspected multiple times, and the root cause has been consistently identified as inadequate roof support. The problem has not been corrected at the design or production level, and dealerships are not taking further action. The roof denting raises concerns about structural rigidity, potential weakening over time, and whether the roof would perform correctly in rollover or impact scenarios. This is an ongoing defect affecting normal use of the vehicle, with no resolution provided by GM despite documented awareness since 2023.

Cruise Control I was nearly in a severe accident because of the way Chevrolet Cruise control works when I was on the highway and traffic slowed down briefly and my vehicle continued to run at the set miles and didn't slow down when I was approaching the vehicle in front of me. When I purchased the vehicle (2025 Chev Colorado) I was not informed that 'Gap' detection does not work as it does in most other modern vehicles. This feature is only available in higher end vehicles in what they call Adapter Cruise Control. My pamphlet "Getting to know your 2025 Colorado explains how to use ACC with no mention it is an option only available on higher end vehicles. I consider it a safety hazard that Cruise Control in its normal setting does not use the Gap setting as most modern vehicles do making it a safety issue, especially when you have a 2nd vehicle that works this way automatically. It was only after 2 service visits that I was told that how it works and that even though it is an option, it is not something that Chevrolet can install in my vehicle. Making it even more confusing the 'GAP' setting is available on my steering wheel controls making the user think this option is actually available when, in fact it is not. I feel Chevrolet needs to fix this potential safety issue by making the Cruise control work in the same manner other manufactures have done for several years.

Subject: Urgent Safety and Usability Concern – 2025 Chevrolet Colorado Infotainment/Instrument Cluster Failure To Whom It May Concern, I own a new 2025 Chevrolet Colorado, purchased on June 23, 2025. Just four days later, on June 27, both the infotainment system and the digital instrument cluster went completely dark, rendering the vehicle unsafe and inoperable. It has only 78 miles on it. After researching the issue, I learned this is a known problem to GM and is addressed in Service Bulletin PIT6362 released on 2 April 2025. The bulletin advises dealers not to replace hardware components as the issue stems from a software anomaly. However, there is currently no estimated timeline for a resolution. This leaves me — and presumably many others — with a an expensive investment that cannot be safely driven. Dealer is picking up the vehicle Monday June 23 but I have low confidence they know what to do. This situation is unacceptable. A total loss of vehicle instrumentation and infotainment severely compromises safety, functionality, and trust in the Chevrolet brand. It is alarming that vehicles with such a critical defect were allowed to reach customers. I am requesting the following: Immediate acknowledgment and escalation of this case Clear explanation of how GM is addressing PIT6362 Temporary or permanent remedy to restore my vehicle’s functionality Compensation or alternative transportation options while the issue persists A case number and point of contact for follow-up My question is how GM can continue to sell these defective vehicles knowing someone could, quite literally, get killed.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent — Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good — Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed — Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky — Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
