ENGINE

3 complaints

Owners of the 2022 Chevrolet Camaro report issues primarily related to engine components and software programming. Multiple complaints highlight problems with engine components, such as a faulty valve body leading to extended repair times due to parts availability, and main rod bearing failure at approximately 14,000 miles, which results in engine damage. Some owners note that the engine issue is similar to those in recalled GM trucks but not currently addressed for Camaros. Additionally, software programming in manual transmissions requires both the clutch and brake to be depressed to start the vehicle, which owners describe as a safety concern in stalled situations. No crashes or fires are reported, but the described issues could affect vehicle operation and ownership satisfaction.

3 complaints total

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

2 complaints

Owners of the 2022 Chevrolet Camaro report issues with rear window glass separation and electronic stability control (ESC) system malfunctions. One owner describes the rear window glass separating from the convertible top, initially at the driver’s side corner, with potential safety risks if the window detaches while driving. This issue is linked to adhesive failure due to insufficient primer. Another owner reports persistent ESC system alerts and a check engine light, which a dealership suggested might be resolved by a fuel cleaning, though this has not been effective. These issues appear within the first year of ownership, with no specific mileage noted, and may involve safety implications such as potential loss of window integrity or impaired vehicle stability.

2 complaints total

AIR BAGS

2 complaintsSafety-related

Owners report issues with the airbag system in the 2022 Chevrolet Camaro, with one complaint involving a crash where airbags failed to deploy, resulting in injuries and a totaled vehicle. This incident occurred at approximately 1,638 miles, and the owner received a notification about the airbag issue only after the crash. Another owner describes receiving intermittent airbag malfunction warnings on the Driver Information Center (DIC), particularly when the vehicle is not driven for a few days, at around 15,300 miles. These complaints highlight potential safety implications due to non-deployment of airbags and recurring system warnings.

POWER TRAIN (2 complaints)

POWER TRAIN

2 complaints

Owners of the 2022 Chevrolet Camaro report issues related to the power train, particularly with the transmission. A common problem includes delayed shifting from first to second gear, which can result in the vehicle stalling in traffic. This issue is initially undetectable by dealership technicians as it does not trigger warning lights or codes until later, when a P0700 transmission system code is eventually recorded. One owner mentions this problem occurring a few weeks after purchase, suggesting it may arise early in the vehicle's life. Another owner notes a recall related to the power train, but parts for the repair are unavailable, which may delay resolution. No crashes or loss of control are reported, but the stalling in traffic could present safety concerns.

When the vehicle is in reverse - the grid lines are so thin and faint, they are almost invisible. This greatly affects how close I reverse to another car or object. Also in reverse: There is no warning bell or chime when I am close to an object. The grid lines should be more pronounced.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent— Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good— Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed— Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky— Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.

Get notified when new recalls or reliability data is added for the Chevrolet Camaro.
