SERVICE BRAKES

3 complaintsSafety-related

Owners of the 2022 Buick Enclave report issues with the service brakes, particularly involving brake boosters and grinding noises. One owner describes a brake booster failure at 100,000 miles, leading to non-functional brakes upon vehicle start-up, without prior warning lights. Another complaint highlights persistent brake grinding shortly after purchase, with unresolved issues despite dealership visits and brake pad replacements due to a GM bulletin. A separate incident involves a crash in stop-and-go traffic where the vehicle's collision sensors failed to activate, resulting in minor damage and highlighting potential safety risks. These reports suggest brake-related problems can arise early in the vehicle's life, and buyers should be aware of potential safety implications, especially in terms of brake performance and collision prevention systems.

A known defect that was previously addressed in a previous recall on the 2019 model year is still occurring on 2022 Buick Enclaves with no repair offered by GM. The defect causes a large hole to form in the exhaust pipe between the exhaust manifold and the muffler which could leak Carbon Monoxide into the passenger compartment and cause decreased engine performance. In the attached pictures the defect hole noted in the recall exactly matches the hole in the 2 pictures of the underside of my car in the exact same spot is the previous recall identified. It’s obvious that GM is still producing defective components and parts and placing them on their vehicles after a recall had caused repairs to previous model years.

Mounting bracket for exhaust in front develops a leak at a cross member. GMC is aware of the issue and has refused to honor their extended warranty for the 2021 model year on my 2022 Buick that was delivered in 2021 due to mileage even though the extended service plan extends mileage to 150,000, mi and 15 years. Vehicle has exhaust leak which triggered check engine light. Could also possibly cause carbon monoxide poisoning

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent— Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good— Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed— Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky— Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.

Get notified when new recalls or reliability data is added for the Buick Enclave.
