2022 Audi E-Tron-GT Common Problems by Component
10 owner complaints grouped by vehicle system.
POWER TRAIN
5 complaintsOwners report that the 2022 Audi E-Tron GT experiences issues with the power train, including uncommanded shifts to neutral or park, and unexpected loss of power. Complaints frequently mention the vehicle shifting to neutral or park without driver input, particularly when backing out of parking spaces or while stopped at traffic lights. Additionally, some owners describe scenarios where the car loses power and displays a "Drive system malfunction" message, necessitating a restart to regain functionality. These issues typically occur at low speeds or when stationary, but they pose safety risks by potentially leaving the vehicle immobile in traffic. The complaints do not specify mileage ranges, but they indicate that these problems have recurred even after dealer interventions.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
3 complaintsOwners of the 2022 Audi E-Tron GT frequently report issues related to the electrical system, particularly involving the vehicle's heating unit and unexpected power loss. Multiple complaints describe heater failures, diagnosed as high voltage heating unit malfunctions, which result in insufficient heating and potential visibility issues due to fogged windows. Additionally, some owners experience the vehicle independently shutting off or shifting into neutral, with these issues surfacing at low mileage, around 237 miles in one case. Reports also mention a persistent warning message indicating an electrical system malfunction, requiring prolonged service times. These electrical system issues can result in significant vehicle downtime and may impact safety due to sudden power loss.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
1 complaintI was in Portland, Oregon, charging the car at a 350 fast station located in Fred Meyer and it was snowing and raining at the same time. I couldn't get the car to charge more the 90 % and got only 175 miles. Since it was wet, the car windshield will not defrost. The visibility in the car was not very good. I start driving back home to Eugene, around 100 miles. I was concern if i can make it home. When i arrive home, i had only 20 miles left on the charge. The car used to get 230 to 240 miles ranges. Now, even in mild weather, i get 199 miles maximum with 100% charge. I left the car to the dealer to check the battery and they didn't find anything wrong. Now, I will not drive the car in cold weather since i feel not safe driving more than a 100 miles and the charging station will not deliver the charge at more than 20 kw(it will take 2 days to charge the battery at 20 kw).
VISIBILITY/WIPER (1 complaints)
VISIBILITY/WIPER
1 complaintIf the vehicle is left outside in the sun, the backup camera and/or side cameras stop working. It happens very often, but it’s unpredictable. Because if very bad read visibility, reversing in this car is impossible without the backup camera.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores
Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.
Key Ranking Factors
Complaint Severity
NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.
Repair Costs
Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.
Recall Impact
Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.
Issue Diversity
Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.
Scores are grouped into four tiers:
- 80–100: Excellent— Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
- 60–79: Good— Reliable with some minor concerns
- 40–59: Mixed— Notable issues, research before buying
- 0–39: Risky— Significant problems, proceed with caution
Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
