6 complaints

Owners report two primary issues with the 2024 Nissan Kicks. First, multiple complaints describe the rear windshield shattering unexpectedly, both while the vehicle is stationary and in motion, with one owner noting the use of the defrost feature. This issue appears independent of external impact, as owners mention the glass breaking on its own. Second, a critical safety concern is highlighted by an incident where a vehicle unexpectedly shifted from park to reverse, resulting in a reported injury. Additionally, an owner notes a loose gas tank nozzle area when refueling, but this issue is less frequently reported. These issues are reported at varying mileages, with one owner mentioning 4,011 miles. Safety implications include potential injury from unexpected vehicle movement and the risk of glass breakage while driving.

VISIBILITY/WIPER

4 complaints

Owners of the 2024 Nissan Kicks frequently report issues with the rear windshield unexpectedly cracking or shattering. Typical symptoms include the rear windshield breaking while the vehicle is parked, often without any apparent cause such as temperature extremes or physical impact. Complaints often describe these incidents occurring at relatively low mileages, such as around 13,000 miles. The safety implications are notable, as one owner highlights the risk of potential injury if the glass were to break while passengers are in the vehicle. These patterns may be of particular interest to used car buyers considering the model.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

2 complaints

Owners of the 2024 Nissan Kicks report issues related to the electrical system, with two primary complaints emerging. One owner describes the vehicle unexpectedly restarting and running for approximately six hours after it was parked and turned off, with this occurring at around 1,000 miles. Another complaint involves a malfunctioning fuel gauge or Distance to Empty indicator following a refuel, which has not self-corrected. While no safety incidents such as crashes or fires are reported, the unexpected vehicle restart and running could present a potential safety risk if unnoticed. These issues may be of concern to potential buyers considering the electrical reliability of this model.

STRUCTURE (2 complaints)

STRUCTURE

2 complaints

Owners of the 2024 Nissan Kicks report issues related to the vehicle's structure, specifically involving sudden glass breakage and water intrusion. One owner describes an unexpected loud "pop" followed by a shattered back seat window, while another reports a failed rear body vent seal leading to water entering the vehicle, causing interior moisture, mold, and potential damage to electrical systems. Symptoms include a sloshing water sound and repeated window frosting, with no warning indicators prior to these issues. Although specific mileage is not mentioned, the water intrusion is confirmed by a dealership inspection. Safety implications include potential health risks from mold and possible electrical system damage, which could affect vehicle functionality.

2 complaints

Owners of the 2024 Nissan Kicks report issues with the rear windshield glass shattering unexpectedly, with incidents occurring at mileage around 40,000 to 42,900. Complaints frequently mention the rear window glass exploding without impact, both while driving and when the vehicle is stationary. Additionally, some owners describe problems with the back over prevention camera screen failing to turn off promptly after shifting from reverse to drive. Safety implications include potential visibility issues due to sudden glass breakage, though no crashes or injuries are reported. These issues arise relatively early in the vehicle's life, suggesting potential concerns for used car buyers considering models with similar mileage.

The contact owned a 2024 Nissan Kicks. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving 50-55 MPH and merging to the right lane, the vehicle continued pulling to the right, unintendedly even though the driver had straightened the steering wheel to drive straight. The contact stated that the passenger's side of the vehicle crashed into a guardrail, and the vehicle stopped. It was unknown whether the brakes were inoperable at the time of the incident. It was unknown whether a warning light was illuminated before of after the crash. The passenger's side roof rail air bags deployed. The contact stated that the axle and the front passenger's side tire were bent. No police report was filed. There was no injury sustained. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was then towed to an auto body repair shop. The insurance company declared the vehicle a total loss. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the failure would be investigated. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.

I took my 2024 Nissan Kicks SV to the dealership with approximately 2000 miles on it. The vehicle as an increased concerning issue where, while idling in park with no one in the vehicle, the engine will have a continuous revving then loud click/clunk noise, return to normal, then start again. It’s been getting progressively louder. Dealership stated they were unable to replicate the issue and there were no codes/issues showing on the computer. It started happening around 1500 miles occasionally and quieter, but now at nearly 2500 miles it’s increasing in frequency and noise level. I’ve noticed it happens multiple times a week if not every time I drive the vehicle. This is very concerning for a new vehicle.

Problem with Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB). I'm driving on a road with 2 lanes in my direction at about 35 mph. Approached a curve that makes a slight left turn in the road. There happens to be a bicyclist on the curve. As the car reaches a position where the bicyclist is in direct frontal view of the vehicles cameras/radar, the AEB activates, even though we're both on the curve and I'm not going to hit the bicyclist. The activation of the AEB lasted only a second or two until the bicyclist was no longer in my direct path, but the noise from the brakes activating and the sudden deceleration scared the devil out of me causing me to panic momentarily. If a car was tailgating at the time, they may have hit me. The AEB system should recognize that I was on a turn/curve at the time and not have activated.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent — Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good — Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed — Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky — Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
