3 recalls have been issued for the 2025 Nissan Kicks. All recall repairs are performed free of charge at authorized dealerships.

24V9690002024-12-23

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2025 Kicks vehicles. The "Shift-to-Park" warning may not activate as intended when the vehicle is shut off and still in a gear other than "Park." As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention."

Consequence

When the vehicle is not in "Park" and the ignition is shut off, the vehicle could move unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a vehicle rollaway and crash.

Remedy

Dealers will reconfigure the body control module (BCM) to activate the "Shift-to-Park" warning, free of charge. Some owner notification letters were mailed January 29, 2025. The remaining owner notification letters will be mailed at a future date, anticipated, May 7, 2025. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is PMA42.

25V1880002025-04-18

EQUIPMENT

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2025 Kicks vehicles. The certification label may have been printed with the incorrect Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) and Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) values, which can result in the vehicle being overloaded. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification." Additionally, certain 2025 Nissan Kicks SR trim level vehicles equipped with an optional 19-inch wheel package may have a certification label that states an incorrect wheel size. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."

Consequence

An overloaded vehicle can increase the risk of a crash. Vehicles with incorrect wheel and tire information may lead to tires that are inflated improperly, which can also increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will install new labels, free of charge. Additionally, dealers will mail replacement labels to owners. Owner notification letters were mailed May 27, 2025. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 800-647-7261. Nissan's numbers for this recall are PD136 and PMA47.

25V3240002025-06-04

BACK OVER PREVENTION

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2025 Frontier and Kicks vehicles. The center information display unit may display a blank screen when shifted into reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Consequence

A rearview image that does not display can reduce the driver's view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will update the software on the vehicle’s center information display, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 10, 2025. The manufacturer numbers for this recall are PD152 and PMA48.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

4 complaintsSafety-related

Owners of the 2025 Nissan Kicks frequently report issues with the vehicle's electrical system, particularly the infotainment and instrument panels. Symptoms include screens going black, blinking, or malfunctioning, often occurring at mileages as low as 1,000 to 8,000 miles. A notable safety-related incident involves a vehicle rolling away after being remotely started, resulting in a crash into a tree, though no injuries were reported. Additionally, some owners mention delays in obtaining parts for recall-related repairs, impacting the resolution of these electrical issues. Potential buyers should be aware of these recurring electrical malfunctions and the implications for vehicle operation and safety.

WHEELS

3 complaints

Owners of the 2025 Nissan Kicks report issues related to wheel components, with complaints frequently mentioning loose lug nuts, which lead to shuddering at speeds around 49 MPH. Another complaint describes a hubcap detaching while turning at approximately 20 MPH. These issues appear at low mileages, around 200 to 500 miles. Additionally, a complaint highlights the absence of a spare tire, replaced instead by a can of fix-a-leak spray, which some owners find inadequate for emergency situations. While no crashes or injuries are reported, the loose lug nuts and missing spare tire could potentially impact safety.

3 complaints total

VISIBILITY/WIPER

3 complaints

Owners report that the 2025 Nissan Kicks frequently experiences issues with windshield cracking and leaking. Complaints often describe spontaneous windshield cracks occurring during normal driving conditions, sometimes as early as 2,000 miles. Multiple owners mention leaks developing around the windshield, leading to water saturation on the passenger floor, particularly after rain. This pattern suggests potential issues with either the windshield installation or the vehicle's seam integrity. While no crashes or loss of control are reported, the ease of windshield cracking and subsequent leaks could pose a visibility hazard. Buyers should be aware of potential delays in obtaining replacement windshields due to high demand.

BACK OVER PREVENTION (3 complaints)

BACK OVER PREVENTION

3 complaints

Owners of the 2025 Nissan Kicks report issues with the back-over prevention system, specifically related to the display screen. Complaints frequently mention that the camera image is grainy and distorted, particularly at night, and in some cases, the display turns completely black while reversing. These issues are often connected to a recall, with owners noting that parts for the repair are unavailable or that the remedy does not resolve the problem. Mileage at the time of failure varies, with one report noting an issue at 9,000 miles. No crashes or injuries have been reported in connection with these failures, but the visibility issues could potentially affect safety during reversing.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER (2 complaints)

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

2 complaints

Owners of the 2025 Nissan Kicks report issues with the front windshield, specifically cracks appearing on the inside surface. These cracks, ranging from 2 to 10 inches, are noted shortly after purchase, with one owner specifying the issue at 364 miles. Additionally, multiple owners describe problems with the windshield washer system, where the fluid is found to be frozen and unusable upon delivery. The safety implications include potential visibility obstruction and the risk of the windshield shattering unexpectedly, though no incidents of crashes or loss of control are reported. These issues are brought to attention within weeks of ownership, suggesting early-stage defects in the vehicle.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent — Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good — Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed — Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky — Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
