2022 Lexus GX Common Problems by Component
7 owner complaints grouped by vehicle system.
SERVICE BRAKES
3 complaintsOwners of the 2022 Lexus GX frequently report a loss of braking capability while stopped, with symptoms including the brake pedal gradually losing pressure and traveling to the floor despite being fully depressed. This issue often results in the vehicle moving forward at idle, requiring additional force on the brake pedal or shifting to neutral or park to prevent unintended movement. Another distinct issue involves the parking brake foot pedal, where owners describe a sharp edge that can cause cuts to footwear or skin, posing a potential safety risk if reflexive actions occur while driving. These complaints do not specify a consistent mileage range but highlight safety implications, such as the risk of rolling into intersections or injury from the sharp edge.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
2 complaintsSafety-relatedOwners of the 2022 Lexus GX report issues related to the electrical system, with two main failure patterns emerging. One owner describes a severe incident where the steering wheel jerked unexpectedly, the brakes failed to engage properly, and the windshield wipers activated without input, resulting in a crash. Another owner reports that the hill assist feature malfunctions, causing the vehicle to drift backward and engage the traction control system, which can delay forward movement and potentially lead to accidents. These issues are reported at low mileage, around 1,500 miles, and pose significant safety risks, including the potential for crashes and loss of vehicle control.
POWER TRAIN
1 complaintI am reporting two safety-related problems in my 2022 Lexus GX 460, both present since shortly after purchase and the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. 1. Power Train / Speed Control (delayed acceleration / no throttle response): When I transition from the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal quickly (normal driving), the vehicle intermittently displays a warning message indicating the accelerator is being pressed while the brake is also pressed (or similar wording). When this happens, the vehicle does not respond to the accelerator for several seconds even if I press the accelerator to the floor. This has put my safety and the safety of others at risk because the vehicle fails to accelerate when needed (e.g., when merging, turning, or avoiding traffic), creating multiple dangerous near-miss situations. The warning message appears at the time of the event; I did not notice a warning lamp or message consistently prior to the event. This issue has not yet been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. A dealer service visit is scheduled for next week. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives for this problem. 2. Seats (driver seat causes leg numbness/spasms impairing pedal control): The driver seat bottom is unusually firm, and after approximately 30 minutes of driving my legs become numb from the lower thighs down to my feet and I experience spasms to the point that I cannot safely operate the brake and accelerator pedals. This is a safety risk because it can prevent proper pedal control while driving. This condition has been consistent since shortly after purchase. It has not yet been confirmed by a dealer or independent service center, and the vehicle/seat has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives for this issue.
SUSPENSION (1 complaints)
SUSPENSION
1 complaintThis vehicle has had bad engine rumbling since I have Owens’s the vehicle and makes loud noises all the time since I have owned it new. Also this year car online has had known suspension issues and alignment issues. My vehicle pulls to the right all the time and steering wheel is off center. Also my front socks with only 6200 make noise when going over bumps. I have been to the dealership over these issues twice and they tried to fix the alignment the first time since it was out but used the wrong specs bwcucase they are not out for 2022 Lexus gx 460 yet. Also the rumbling the dealership can not figure out at all.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores
Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.
Key Ranking Factors
Complaint Severity
NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.
Repair Costs
Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.
Recall Impact
Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.
Issue Diversity
Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.
Scores are grouped into four tiers:
- 80–100: Excellent — Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
- 60–79: Good — Reliable with some minor concerns
- 40–59: Mixed — Notable issues, research before buying
- 0–39: Risky — Significant problems, proceed with caution
Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
