POWER TRAIN

4 complaints

Owners report multiple powertrain issues with the 2023 Genesis G70. Complaints frequently mention a persistent noise from the rear of the vehicle, described as a wheel bearing-type whine that becomes more pronounced at higher speeds, particularly above 40 mph and worsening around 80 mph. Additionally, multiple owners describe a loss of motive power while driving, with some vehicles unable to accelerate beyond 62 mph or entering a limp mode. These issues are noted at mileages ranging from 7,000 to 25,000 miles. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

4 complaints

Owners of the 2023 Genesis G70 frequently report issues with the electrical system, particularly involving the car unexpectedly entering LIMP mode, resulting in significant power loss and requiring a restart to regain functionality. This issue is noted across various driving conditions and speeds, with some owners expressing concerns about the safety implications during lane changes and merging. Complaints also mention difficulties in obtaining timely recall-related repairs, with parts on back order and discrepancies between corporate and dealer communications. Additionally, some owners describe the vehicle's engine shutting off completely, causing traffic obstructions. These issues are reported at relatively low mileage, such as around 12,000 miles, and present potential safety risks, including the possibility of crashes due to sudden power loss.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

3 complaints

Owners of the 2023 Genesis G70 report issues with condensation and moisture accumulating inside the headlights, which frequently leads to malfunctioning of the turn signals. Symptoms described include notifications for faulty turn signals and improper flashing, with some owners indicating that the issue persists even after attempted repairs. These problems are noted to occur without visible cracks in the headlights, suggesting a recurring issue rather than isolated incidents. Complaints highlight that this problem is widespread among G70 owners, with no specific mileage or timeline consistently mentioned. The presence of moisture in the headlights poses potential safety risks, particularly at night, due to compromised visibility and signaling functions.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent— Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good— Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed— Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky— Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.

Get notified when new recalls or reliability data is added for the Genesis G70.
