FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM (6 complaints)

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

6 complaints

Owners of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado frequently report issues with the DEF system inaccurately indicating fluid levels, leading to premature warnings of low DEF that prompt speed restrictions or potential limp mode activation. This issue is observed even when the DEF tank is substantially full, causing safety concerns as drivers are forced to refill on highways or in other precarious situations. Additionally, there are reports of fuel pump failures, including a faulty fuel pump control module and fuel pump shorting, which result in the vehicle stalling and not restarting, sometimes requiring towing. These issues are reported at varying mileages, with one incident occurring just under 37,000 miles. VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

5 complaints

Owners of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado report issues with vehicle speed control primarily related to the cruise control and adaptive cruise control systems. Complaints frequently mention unintended acceleration when the cruise control resume switch is accidentally engaged at low speeds, as well as unexpected disengagement of cruise control while driving uphill, leading to sudden speed drops. Additionally, some owners describe the adaptive cruise control system applying brakes or slowing down without any vehicles or obstructions ahead, which could pose a safety risk, especially on slick roads or with vehicles following closely. These issues are noted at varying mileages, with one specific report occurring at approximately 17,306 miles. Potential safety implications include loss of control and increased risk of rear-end collisions.

5 complaints total
AIR BAGS (2 complaints)

AIR BAGS

2 complaintsSafety-related

Owners of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado report instances where the airbags fail to deploy during crashes, with both recorded incidents resulting in injuries. In both cases, the vehicles experienced significant front-end damage, yet the airbags did not activate, despite the severity of the collisions. The first vehicle was new with only 1,100 miles, while the second had approximately 62,000 miles, indicating the issue may not be linked to vehicle age or mileage. The lack of airbag deployment during these crashes is a critical safety concern, as it is directly associated with the injuries reported. Prospective buyers should be aware of these reports, especially if considering models within similar mileage ranges.

2018n Cruze engine light on and high idle, connected?

This is the second time the engine light has come on in about 3 years time. first time it came on I had it checked and the code was catalytic converter fail. But the light went off on its own and was fine for almost a year. had car oil changed and tires rotated and it came back on a few days after the service. could this be a glich? why would it say cc fail and then be fine? it makes no sense. the engine idle runs high when i first start the car, is it related? engine light seems to go on after the car is serviced..second time this happened. i notice its running a little rough and then it idles high. How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent — Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good — Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed — Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky — Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
