ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2023-2025 Cadillac XT5 and 2024-2025 Cadillac XT6 vehicles. The instrument panel may not illuminate when the hazard warning lights, high beams, or turn signals are activated. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 101, "Controls and Displays" and 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Assoc. Equipment."

Consequence

Without the illuminated reminder, the driver could fail to turn off the lights when no longer needed. Hazard warning lights, high beams, or turn signals that remain activated unintentionally can confuse other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will update the instrument panel software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 13, 2024. Owners may contact Cadillac's customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is N242447940.

3 complaints

Owners report issues with the 2025 Cadillac XT6's rear camera, particularly when backing into sunlight, where the screen may go blank or white for several seconds, affecting visibility. Some describe that braking or shifting gears can temporarily resolve the issue. Additionally, there are complaints about the fuel gauge inaccurately indicating a full tank, even after significant driving, and difficulties refueling due to premature pump shut-offs. These problems appear to persist despite dealership visits, with no consistent resolution. Safety implications include potential hazards in pedestrian-heavy areas due to limited rear visibility.

SERVICE BRAKES

2 complaints

Owners of the 2025 Cadillac XT6 report issues with the service brakes, specifically related to the brake booster vacuum sensor. Complaints frequently mention brake failure occurring without warning, with one owner experiencing repeated failures approximately every 5,500 miles. Symptoms include a sudden loss of braking ability while driving and an abrupt, forceful braking action when backing up. These issues arise at mileage points around 6,747 and 12,233 miles, suggesting a pattern of recurrence. The safety implications are significant, with potential risks of crashes or loss of control, making this a critical consideration for prospective buyers.

ENGINE

2 complaints

Owners of the 2025 Cadillac XT6 report issues with engine performance and transmission components. One owner describes an abnormal engine noise at cold start and intermittent vibration during driving at approximately 3,950 miles, which later leads to a diagnosis of a catastrophic internal engine defect requiring complete engine replacement. Another owner notes a red fluid leak and identifies faulty transmission bolts at around 6,700 miles, necessitating extensive repairs. While no crashes, fires, or injuries have been reported, the engine issues could pose a risk of sudden power loss or stalling. These complaints suggest potential reliability concerns that prospective buyers should consider, especially at low mileage.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent— Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good— Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed— Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky— Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
