2025 Buick Envision Common Problems by Component
7 owner complaints grouped by vehicle system.
SERVICE BRAKES
3 complaintsOwners of the 2025 Buick Envision report several issues related to the service brakes. Common symptoms include sudden and unexpected braking while driving, as well as complete brake failure following a transmission downshift, with one owner noting a dashboard message indicating "service breaks." Another owner describes a persistent squeaking noise from the brakes, which persists despite mechanical checks indicating no apparent problem. These reports arise at varying mileages, with one specific mention at 10,000 miles. Safety implications include the potential for sudden loss of speed and braking capability, which could lead to a loss of control, though no crashes or injuries are reported.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
3 complaintsOwners report several electrical system issues with the 2025 Buick Envision. Common symptoms include loud cracking noises from the radio, turn signal, and ignition button, which some owners suggest could be related to a power surge. Another issue involves the dashboard and radio turning off randomly, leaving drivers without access to critical information such as speed, fuel level, and other safety data. Additionally, some owners experience a parasitic battery drain, leading to vehicle starting failures and illuminated warning lights, with one case occurring at approximately 2,700 miles. These issues have potential safety implications, particularly when dashboard information is unavailable while driving.
POWER TRAIN
1 complaintOn 12/18/2025 at approximately 5:00 pm, during rush hour traffic, while driving 60 mph on the expressway, my car automatically downshifted to drive1, the engine revved up significantly and the car reduced power and had sluggish acceleration. It did not come out of Drive 1 until I was able to get off the expressway and put the car in park. The car is available for inspection upon request. I was panicking in heavy traffic and cars were honking at me as I could not speed up. I took my car to the dealer but he could not reproduce the exact problem. The vehicle or component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance or representatives. There were not any warnings or messages prior to the symptoms. This is the second time this has happened within the eight months that I have leased the car.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores
Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.
Key Ranking Factors
Complaint Severity
NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.
Repair Costs
Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.
Recall Impact
Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.
Issue Diversity
Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.
Scores are grouped into four tiers:
- 80–100: Excellent— Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
- 60–79: Good— Reliable with some minor concerns
- 40–59: Mixed— Notable issues, research before buying
- 0–39: Risky— Significant problems, proceed with caution
Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
