SERVICE BRAKES

6 complaints

Owners of the 2019 Buick Envision frequently report issues with the brake assist system, particularly involving the "Service Brake Assist" warning light. Common symptoms include a lack of braking power, with some drivers experiencing the brake pedal going to the floor or becoming extremely firm, making it difficult to stop the vehicle. Several complaints indicate that these issues occur at various speeds and can lead to hazardous driving conditions, though no crashes are specifically reported. The problems often emerge around 30,000 miles, with some owners mentioning a potential defect in the brake vacuum pump. These reports suggest potential safety implications due to reduced braking capability, which prospective buyers should consider.

6 complaints total

SUSPENSION

3 complaints

Owners of the 2019 Buick Envision frequently report severe shuddering in the vehicle, particularly when driving over road irregularities such as patched potholes or even on smooth roadways. This shuddering typically occurs at speeds over 35-40 mph and persists until the vehicle is brought to a complete stop. Some owners have linked the issue to hydraulic mounts leaking, necessitating the replacement of bushings, as noted in a service bulletin. The complaints suggest that these issues could pose safety concerns, as one owner described a near-miss incident with an 18-wheeler due to loss of control. This pattern of shuddering appears to emerge over time, as indicated by reports of the problem starting in the years following the vehicle's manufacture.

3 complaints total

TIRES

3 complaints

Owners of the 2019 Buick Envision frequently report premature tire wear, with tread depths measuring as low as 4/32 inches at approximately 25,000 to 30,000 miles, significantly below the expected 60,000-mile lifespan. Multiple complaints describe incidents of tire blowouts occurring at low speeds, shortly after parking, without prior warning from pressure sensors. These issues are primarily associated with Michelin Premier LTX tires, and some owners express frustration with dealerships and manufacturers not honoring warranty claims or service bulletins. The rapid deterioration of tire tread raises safety concerns, as some vehicles have failed safety inspections due to insufficient tread depth. Used car buyers should be aware of these potential tire issues and consider inspecting tire condition and tread depth before purchase.

AIR BAGS (2 complaints)

AIR BAGS

2 complaintsSafety-related

Owners of the 2019 Buick Envision report issues related to the airbag system, specifically involving delays in obtaining replacement parts. One complaint describes a crash where the vehicle was T-boned, and the owner mentions that General Motors has been unable to supply the necessary airbag part since November 2019. This delay is attributed to supply chain disruptions, initially due to a strike and later the pandemic, leading to significant inconvenience as the vehicle remains unrepaired for over five months. The safety implications of these complaints are notable, with both reported incidents involving crashes, highlighting potential risks for buyers considering this model.

2 complaints total2 crashes
POWER TRAIN (2 complaints)

POWER TRAIN

2 complaints

Owners of the 2019 Buick Envision report issues related to the power train, primarily involving a loss of power and sluggish acceleration. One owner describes a significant power loss, engine noise, and eventual engine failure at approximately 100,000 miles, requiring a costly rebuild. Another owner experiences engine bogging and vehicle rattling when driving in cruise control between 35 to 40 mph, particularly on inclines, which dealers attribute to normal transmission behavior for fuel economy. No safety incidents such as crashes or fires are reported, but the described symptoms may impact driving performance. Potential buyers should be aware of these issues, especially when considering vehicles with higher mileage.

2 complaints total
STEERING (2 complaints)

STEERING

2 complaints

Owners report issues with the steering gear in the 2019 Buick Envision, particularly at highway speeds where the steering becomes unstable and unresponsive. Symptoms include a sensation of the vehicle becoming airborne and vibrations at low speeds, such as when driving over speed bumps. One reported incident occurred in May 2026, and involved a replacement of the steering gear, motor, and internal power steering control module, followed by a four-wheel alignment. Safety implications are noted, as the steering instability poses a serious safety concern for both the driver and others on the road. Buyers should be aware of these potential steering issues, especially when evaluating used models.

HVAC CASE DOOR MELTED. GM case #9-10542006159. Repaired 2 years ago under warranty and GM knew there was a problem with the design. The air distribution system is placed to close to the heating coils and it keeps melting. It has failed again and GM will not do anything about it and keeps saying its out of warranty. They did not repair the problem correctly when it was in warranty. They tell me there is not a fix for it and there has not been a recall. I'm afraid the car will catch on fire

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent— Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good— Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed— Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky— Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
