BACK OVER PREVENTION

3 complaints

Owners of the 2022 Audi Q3 frequently report issues with the vehicle's back over prevention systems, particularly involving the rear view camera and parking collision chimes. Complaints commonly describe the rear view camera as unreliable, with instances where it fails to engage, displays late, or is obscured by other screen graphics. Additionally, the forward park assist chimes are noted to inconsistently play, often being overridden by other audio sources like music apps, which may pose a safety risk during parking maneuvers. These issues are challenging to reproduce on demand, and owners mention that despite reporting the problems, no software fix has been provided by the manufacturer. There are no specific mileage ranges indicated, but the problems are noted to occur sporadically, sometimes multiple times a week.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER (2 complaints)

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

2 complaints

Owners of the 2022 Audi Q3 report two distinct issues related to the vehicle's design and functionality. Some owners describe the headlights as having a design that causes them to illuminate more of the front right side, potentially distracting drivers by drawing their attention away from the center of the lane, especially noticeable on mountain roads. Another reported issue involves the child safety lock system, where activating the feature results in a dashboard warning message stating "Child safety lock malfunction," followed by the locks deactivating automatically. These complaints do not mention specific mileage ranges, and while no direct safety incidents like crashes are reported, the described issues may affect driving focus and child safety features.

SERVICE BRAKES (2 complaints)

SERVICE BRAKES

2 complaints

Owners of the 2022 Audi Q3 report two distinct issues related to the service brakes. One complaint highlights that the brake and gas pedals are made of hard plastic, which some find slippery, suggesting a potential safety concern due to possible slippage. Another owner describes a persistent noise issue with the brake pads and rotors, which resonates loudly when the vehicle is creeping at low speeds. This issue has been present since the vehicle had 4,000 miles and is described as distracting, though no warning lamps are illuminated and inspections by the dealer indicate no malfunction. While there are no reports of crashes or loss of control, the noise and pedal material are noted as bothersome by owners.

2022 Audi Q 3 engine shuts off completely when stopped at light/stop sign. Has happened twice. Car will not move. Must be put back into park and re start engine. Terrifying when cars are veering away from the car to avoid rear ending disabled car.

LANE DEPARTURE (1 complaints)

LANE DEPARTURE

1 complaint
2022-08-29

According to the owner’s manual, “Lane guidance provides corrective steering to assist the driver with keeping the vehicle in the center of the lane.” On delivery of the vehicle, I noticed that in highway conditions the system consistently steered the vehicle to hug the right side of the lane. I had to “fight” to keep the vehicle in the middle of the lane. Also, the Advanced Driver Assist Lane Guidance feature randomly shut itself off. I could switch it back on in the touch screen menu. Subsequently the Advanced Driver Assist Lane Guidance option completely disappeared from the menu. The only way to get the option to re-appear in the menu is to either reboot the Multi Media Interface or shut off and restart the vehicle. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Absolutely no warning when the Lane Guidance stops functioning and disappears from the menu. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? 1)The Lane Guidance does’t always work, allowing vehicle to leave the lane. (Note that when it DOES work the vehicle hugs the right side of the lane, distracting drivers in the adjacent lane.) 2)Attempts to get the system to work as designed causes a significant driver distraction. 3)Lane Guidance, promoted as a safety feature, is simply unreliable. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The vehicle manufacturer Audi of America (AoA) has offered suggestions to the dealer on how to repair the vehicle. Initially AoA told the dealer that the issue was caused by using a non-Audi charging cable in the USB port. The problem continued without anything plugged into the USB ports. Then on AoA’s recommendation, the dealer replaced a fiber optic cable. That did not fix the problem. No advice from the vehicle manufacturer is fixing the problem.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent — Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good — Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed — Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky — Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
