POWER TRAIN

2 complaints

Owners of the 2025 Nissan Sentra report issues with the powertrain, particularly involving early engine and electrical malfunctions. Complaints frequently mention symptoms such as engine shutdowns and total power loss, sometimes occurring without prior warning, which can lead to safety concerns due to the inability to use hazard lights or move the gear shift to neutral. These issues are reported at low mileage, with one case occurring at 1,500 miles. The inability to diagnose or replicate the problem at dealerships is also noted. Potential buyers should be aware of these reported issues, as they may impact vehicle reliability and safety.

WHEELS

2 complaintsSafety-related

Owners report issues with the wheels of the 2025 Nissan Sentra, with one complaint involving a crash due to a tire blowout that resulted in the wheel rim cracking and splitting without any collision. Another owner describes unrelated issues, including malfunctioning start-stop idle and warped rotors causing shaking during braking, but does not report wheel-specific problems. The crash-related complaint highlights a significant safety concern with potential loss of control, though no specific mileage or timeline patterns are evident from the limited data available. Buyers should be aware of the reported wheel integrity issue and its potential safety implications.

TIRES

2 complaints

Owners of the 2025 Nissan Sentra report issues with tire performance, specifically noting vibrations and handling problems. One owner describes a vibration that begins at 42 mph and worsens above 50 mph, attributed to rear tires being out of round at approximately 5,600 miles. Another owner experiences uncontrollable wobbling when driving on rain-grooved concrete roads, which they associate with the tread pattern of the Michelin Primacy A/S tires on the SV Premium model. Both complaints highlight potential safety concerns, including the risk of losing control at higher speeds. These issues arise early in the vehicle's life, with one case noted immediately after purchase and another within the first 500 miles.

Rear seatbelts trigger a no seatbelt alarm when somebody unbuckles and leaves the vehicle. As well as when somebody leaves and comes back and puts on the seatbelt, the alarm saying that the seatbelt is still not buckled up. It only does it after somebody does buckle in and buckle out and reset anytime the car is turned off and then turned back on. Found out that the rear seats do not have weight sensors, and this has to do with the actual seatbelts sensors. Noticed that buckling the center seatbelt sometimes, sometimes, will cancel out the alarm. In either case, the audible alarm within the vehicle, goes off within two minutes. At my first oil change, dealership said that to wait till the second oil change to see if it fixes itself. Went in for another visit at 7500 miles, and mentioned that it was not fixing itself and that tired of having to deal with it. That visit was for a That visit was for an ECM replacement, which is another case, they said it was a recall and found out that it’s some internal recall within the dealership, and I was hoping that maybe it was that which was causing the seatbelt system not to work properly. It did not fix it after they replaced the ECM. They finally tested the seatbelts, found that my car has no rear seat weight sensor, rather it has just a standard seatbelt sensor when it buckles in and buckles out. They have order the replacement seatbelts and will be installing them this weekend at the dealership.

The contact owns a 2025 Nissan Sentra. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the “Shift to Park” message displayed, and the vehicle lost motive power. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact turned on the hazard lights and waited for the vehicle to cool down before restarting. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the grille shutter needed to be replaced, but only the check engine warning light was reset. The failure recurred several times, and the vehicle was then taken to Pohanka Nissan of Fredericksburg (10665 Patriot Hwy, Fredericksburg, VA 22408); who also determined that the grille shutter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact later discovered that the vehicle was previously owned by Enterprise Rent-A-Car and was involved in a crash. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The manufacturer denied a Lemon Law case. The failure mileage was approximately 6,000.

The rear window on the 2025 Nissan Sentra shattered for no known reason. The car was parked in my driveway, was OK when I locked it up a 3pm to go for a walk, and when I got home at 3:40, there was a big whole in my back window. None of our neighbors heard or saw anything, and there are no ring doorbells that could have a video of what happened. Police came and looked at it, there is no evidence of a rock or bird hitting it, and no sign of a BB or any other projectile. It appears to have spontaneously shattered. This is not covered under warranty, so I wanted to report this in case there are other reports that could trigger a recall.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent — Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good — Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed — Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky — Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
