2025 Mazda 3 Common Problems by Component
20 owner complaints grouped by vehicle system.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
8 complaintsOwners of the 2025 Mazda 3 frequently report issues with the vehicle's electrical system, particularly with the autolocking feature and key fob functionality. Complaints often describe doors failing to autolock and liftgate buttons not working, with some owners documenting numerous occurrences since purchasing the vehicle. Key fob failures are also noted, with reports of fobs breaking easily and becoming nonfunctional. Additionally, some owners experience excessive heating of the built-in wireless phone charger, raising concerns about potential safety risks. These issues appear to occur shortly after purchase, with no specific mileage range consistently mentioned.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER
3 complaintsSafety-relatedOwners of the 2025 Mazda 3 report issues primarily related to unexpected vehicle behavior and administrative errors. One complaint describes a significant safety concern involving unintended acceleration, where the vehicle reportedly accelerated uncontrollably, resulting in a crash despite the driver's attempts to brake. Another owner notes a discrepancy in expected fuel range during highway driving, observing a decrease in mileage compared to initial performance and manufacturer claims. Additionally, there is a report of identity theft leading to incorrect recall notifications for a vehicle not owned by the complainant. These issues range from operational safety risks to administrative inaccuracies, with safety implications highlighted by the crash incident.
WHEELS
2 complaintsOwners report issues with tire pressure variability in the 2025 Mazda 3. Complaints frequently mention inconsistent tire pressure levels across all tires, persisting over a period of three months since purchase. Multiple owners describe tire pressure increasing by 3 psi even under mild driving conditions, such as a short 10-mile city drive at 40 mph in 70-degree weather. There are no mentions of crashes, fires, or loss of control related to these tire pressure fluctuations. Used car buyers may want to monitor tire pressure closely to ensure consistent performance.
SERVICE BRAKES (2 complaints)
SERVICE BRAKES
2 complaintsSafety-relatedOwners of the 2025 Mazda CX-30 report issues related to the service brakes, with one complaint involving a crash. One owner describes difficulty with foot placement between the brake and accelerator pedals, resulting in an inability to stop the vehicle and subsequent minor collision with a garage wall at approximately 700 miles. Another owner reports multiple warning messages including "i-Activsense Malfunction" and "ABS Malfunction" upon starting the vehicle at 71 miles, with the vehicle diagnosed with a harness failure but not repaired due to unavailable parts. These complaints highlight potential safety concerns such as pedal interference and electronic system malfunctions at low mileage, which prospective buyers should consider.
TIRES (1 complaints)
TIRES
1 complaintAt an unspecified service visit I Was told tires were at manufacturers recommended psi YESTERDAY - left the lot at 1530. The next morning - warning system indicated low psi- even as low as 30psi and front passenger so low it did not give a reading??? I have no idea why a service visit was even recommended at 1000 miles. Intake rep said for manufacturer oil change and maintenance?! 1000 miles? Bought 11-8-25?! So, if service visits are directly tied to software communication of the vehicle then, thats being reported too.
ENGINE (1 complaints)
ENGINE
1 complaintI wondered if, after my first service visit on 11-12-25, the dealership put regular leaded gas instead of premium in it, because there was a noticeable difference in gas mileage and the engine started revving pretty high, in my opinion. It also seemed to have less power (which was my main reason foe thinking the wrong gas had been out in). And since then, it hasn't been the same.
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL (1 complaints)
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
1 complaintWarning sensors activate randomly- of oncoming vehicles- in my opinion for no reason. Enough space between cars. Normal speeds, etc. Warning sensor to engage Brakes activate without sufficient reason. More than enough space between cars, normal speeds. Occasionally, it feels as if cruise control has taken over and slows the car down (not braking exactly, but controlling the speed by decreasing it). Acceleration also seems to randomly be controlled in the same manner.
VISIBILITY/WIPER (1 complaints)
VISIBILITY/WIPER
1 complaintAlthough im confident in my own driving skills, it concerns me that the blind spots are so bad that it is NECESSARY to use the blind spot warning system and reverse/back up camera.
STEERING (1 complaints)
STEERING
1 complaintI have noticed over 30 things wrong with this car. Including but not limited to- the FIRST THINGS I mentioned to the dealership there seems to be apull to the right (suspension/alignment). The car randomly starts driving or feeling 'jerky" as if cruise control has taken over - 'phantom braking' is a term I came across that sounds accurate to me. And now, after having the vehicle for almost 30 days- there is significantly less mpg.received. 300 first tank vs about 250 this current tank.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores
Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.
Key Ranking Factors
Complaint Severity
NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.
Repair Costs
Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.
Recall Impact
Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.
Issue Diversity
Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.
Scores are grouped into four tiers:
- 80–100: Excellent — Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
- 60–79: Good — Reliable with some minor concerns
- 40–59: Mixed — Notable issues, research before buying
- 0–39: Risky — Significant problems, proceed with caution
Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
