VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
3 complaintsOwners of the 2019 Jeep Renegade report issues related to the vehicle speed control, primarily involving the malfunction of the uconnect screen. Complaints frequently mention that the screen either goes completely black or exhibits ghost touch issues, affecting the speedometer and causing it to display in kilometers per hour, which hinders the ability to accurately gauge speed. Another common issue involves the vehicle stopping unexpectedly with a "service automatic throttle control" message, typically occurring around 2,000 miles. These symptoms suggest potential safety implications, as they can interfere with navigation and speed monitoring, posing risks during driving.
SEAT BELTS (3 complaints)
SEAT BELTS
3 complaintsOwners report several issues with the seat belts in the 2019 Jeep Renegade. Commonly, the seat belt alarm sounds even when seat belts are properly fastened, indicating a malfunction in the sensor system. Another issue involves the inability to buckle the driver's side seat belt due to it feeling locked. Additionally, rear seat belts incorrectly detect occupancy, causing persistent alarm sounds unless all belts are fastened, regardless of actual passenger presence. These problems are noted to occur as early as one week after purchase, suggesting they may not be related to vehicle mileage. While no direct safety incidents like crashes or loss of control are reported, the described issues could potentially distract drivers.
TIRES (3 complaints)
TIRES
3 complaintsOwners of the 2019 Jeep Renegade report issues with tire wear, specifically noting improper wear on the outside tread leading to exposure of steel belts. Complaints frequently mention this occurring on both front and rear tires, with some owners observing the issue as early as two years into ownership. Symptoms described include a visible shimmer on the tire surface, which upon closer inspection reveals exposed belts. This condition raises safety concerns, as it could potentially lead to tire blowouts. Used car buyers should be aware of these tire wear issues and consider inspecting the tires for similar symptoms before purchase.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores
Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.
Key Ranking Factors
Complaint Severity
NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.
Repair Costs
Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.
Recall Impact
Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.
Issue Diversity
Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.
Scores are grouped into four tiers:
- 80–100: Excellent— Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
- 60–79: Good— Reliable with some minor concerns
- 40–59: Mixed— Notable issues, research before buying
- 0–39: Risky— Significant problems, proceed with caution
Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
