ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
17 complaintsSafety-relatedWhile commuting to work, my vehicle’s dashboard illuminated with the indicators for both the engine and hybrid electric systems. Subsequently, the vehicle began to hydroplane across lanes into the median, rendering it impossible to regain control. prior to the incident, my electrical system on my dash been flickering and blacking out Random occasions for the past weeks
I am a disabled veteran reporting a failed recall remedy and a dangerous safety defect in a 2024 Dodge Hornet GT. This vehicle was previously serviced under NHTSA Recall 25V246000 (Rear Visibility System), where the display module was reportedly replaced/updated. On January 17, 2026, while driving at slow speeds, the center infotainment screen suffered a total failure and went blank. This failure resulted in the immediate loss of the rearview camera and all primary safety/vehicle interfaces, which is a direct violation of FMVSS No. 111. I provided video evidence of the total screen failure to the service department at Southern Dodge Jeep Ram Alfa Romeo in Norfolk Virginia. While they confirmed the failure occurred based on my footage, they stated they could not replicate the issue during their inspection and informed me there was "nothing they could do." They refused to keep me in a safe loaner vehicle, forcing me to choose between driving a fundamentally unsafe vehicle with my young child or incurring massive personal expense for a rental. Due to the manufacturer’s inability to provide a permanent remedy for a federally recalled safety defect, I was forced to sell the vehicle at a significant loss. I am filing this to urge an investigation into the effectiveness of the current remedy for Recall 25V246000.
I am filing this complaint due to repeated and dangerous electrical and hybrid system failures in my 2024 Dodge Hornet, which have resulted in sudden loss of acceleration, loss of braking performance, dashboard warning lights, and system malfunctions while driving. The vehicle has been serviced multiple times at Meadowland of Carmel Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram with the following documented incidents: • Check engine light and loss of acceleration on highway – Vehicle would not accelerate while driving on the highway. • Repeated highway loss of power – Vehicle drops speed while driving and will not accelerate, requiring me to pull over and shut the vehicle off to regain acceleration. • Battery/Hybrid system malfunction – Vehicle experienced abnormal battery percentage drops and required multiple software flashes and reprogramming of PCM, hybrid control processor, and transmission control modules. • Grinding noise from engine with complete loss of acceleration – Vehicle had to be towed. Dealer found active hybrid generator performance code (P0A92). The motor generator unit (MGU) was found to have failed and required replacement. • All dashboard warning lights illuminated / Drive mode unavailable message – Vehicle would not accelerate and multiple control modules required flashing and updates. • Brake pedal went soft – Loss of normal brake pedal feel was reported. • Electrical communication faults – Stored codes for lost communication with AC compressor control module and cabin air heater module. • Frozen backup camera (intermittent issue not always replicated at dealer) – Rearview camera screen has frozen while reversing, creating risk of collision. The most serious safety concern is the repeated loss of acceleration while driving at highway speeds, forcing me to pull over in active traffic. Additionally, the soft brake pedal and electronic failures raise concerns about braking reliability. These failures create a serious risk of crash or injury to myself and others.

SERVICE BRAKES
10 complaintsSafety-relatedThe contact owns a 2024 Dodge Hornet. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V752000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts would not be available until January 2025. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
Driving on the highway at 75 mph, slowing down to 55mph exiting the highway by braking manually, gently. The car started juddering slightly, we assumed it was the road and carried on, then the car following us started to flash for us to stop, we did, got out and all 4 wheels / brakes were on fire, we put them out and carried on driving assuming the brakes would be ok, but we had not put any other kind of brake on except the brake pedal. Then this past weekend a mechanic was trying to move the car and moved it only 5 ft before the brakes all came on and jammed the car. I have no files to upload as the car is currently with a Dodge dealer and they are inspecting it.
my dodge Hornet is involved in this recall. The area that the bolt is to be place to satisfy the recall looks like a bolt should have been placed there and it was left out!!! According to the service bulletin there is NO drilling required to add this solution. I feel that this situation should looked into further.

STEERING
7 complaintsSafety-relatedDate: April 1, 2026 Subject: FINAL NOTICE: Repeated Safety Failures and Demand for Buyback – 2024 Dodge Hornet (VIN: [XXX] ) To [XXX] Autoland, Management and Stellantis Customer Care, I am writing to formally document a persistent and life-threatening safety defect regarding my 2024 Dodge Hornet GT, purchased on December 21, 2023. As of today, this vehicle has become a liability to my physical safety and a significant financial burden. Vehicle Information: Year/Make/Model: 2024 Dodge Hornet GT Purchase Date: 12/21/2023 Current Mileage: 41,166 History of Failure: The vehicle has experienced five distinct instances of total power loss, resulting in the immediate loss of power steering and braking assistance while in motion. These incidents occurred on the following dates: January 10, 2024 May 2024 October 19, 2024 – November 21, 2024 (Out of service for 33 days) November 24, 2024 (Out of service for an additional 7 days) March 29, 2026 – Present (Currently in shop; no status update or loaner provided) Safety Concern: These malfunctions are not minor mechanical inconveniences; they represent a "Nonconformity" that substantially impairs the safety and use of the vehicle. Operating a vehicle that may lose steering and braking power at any moment places me at imminent risk of bodily injury or death. Demand: Despite my exhaustive documentation—including photos, email history, and towing records—both the dealership and the manufacturer have failed to provide a permanent repair or adequate support. I am formally requesting a Repurchase (Buyback) of this vehicle under the provisions of state Lemon Law and the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. This vehicle has been out of service for over 40 cumulative days for the same recurring safety issue, which far exceeds the threshold for a "reasonable number of repair attempts." Please provide a written response regarding the status of my vehicle and a decision on this buyback request within 3 days INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact rented a 2024 Dodge Hornet. While driving 50-75 MPH, the vehicle made an abnormally loud sound, and the steering wheel was not turning as intended. Additionally, the steering wheel and the front axle were not responding as intended, and constant adjustments were needed; the contact had to grip the steering wheel tightly. The contact stated that the failure increased while turning the steering wheel. The vehicle was driven back to the rental agency. No further information was available. The failure mileage was approximately 48,025.
Complete electrical issues, starting with no start up, after jumping power steering went out. Was in shop for 2 months and had an electrical fire internally, while not running.

5 complaintsI went to have an oil change and was told I had a coolant leak. Took to dealership and they told me they don’t see an issue. Two days later the same problem persists. I go under the hood and the coolant container is empty. Coolant was added and there is still an issue. I bring it back for a second time and dealership can not find the problem but clearly there is a problem.
At 3,700 miles, check engine light came on; went to the dealership; diagnosed as Auxiliary Waterpump; Waterpump was leaking coolant. Vehicle sat at the dealership from Oct 1 until Nov 1 2024. Vehicle is still losing coolant. Taking to a different dealership tomorrow.

3 complaintsAnytime it is cold out, there is an issues with the doors not closing. Today it us 4 degrees out and I was able to get the doors closed. As I was driving down the road I live on the door popped open. I stopped, opened the door shut the door and locked it. I proceeded to drive a little more and it happened again. I again stopped and opened the door and shut and locked it again. I turned around to go back home and it did it a third time. I stopped and shut it, locked it and started to drive. This time I went around a ben and the door flew open. I am a member on a Facebook group of other Hornet owners and ther is an ongoing issue with the doors not closing when it's cold. Its a huge safety issue! I am scared to drive this car in winter, it's not safe.
Heavy vibration/ shaking felt in steering, floorboard, seats and all. I purchased this car February 14, 2025 and reported this within 24 hours of be driving the car home. I was told it most likely was due to the car sitting on the lot for over 300 days. First took car back for them to assess 3 days after purchase. I was told to drive it and put 500 miles on it and see if it self corrected. It did not. I have 9,400 miles now and nothing they have done as resolved it. It is getting worse. I cannot drive the car on a long trip and do not feel safe driving it. I have had the car in the shop over 5 times. I initiated a support ticket with the main Stellantis Corp the last time it was taken in. I was assured they would have a Technical Advisor work with the dealership on the issue. Car was there over 3 months just the last time it was there. They put new tires and brakes on it and it did not resolve the shaking and vibration issues. Now the issue can be felt at lower speeds like 40MPH and is worse at 72 to 75. I contacted them after picking my car up last time and spoke to a different agent who asked me to schedule and appt with the service dept once again and they would have a Tech Advisor work with them. I reminded him that was what was supposed to happen the last time and did not. My safety and the safety of others are my main concern. Merging is difficult to feel comfortable doing because of this issue. I am a nervous wreck thinking this may cause an accident harming myself or others but they do not care.
They never did the second step of the recall for brake padel collapse and the car still not stopping properly or gripping when stopping even when your foot all the way to the floor. Still give you a hard time to stop the dodge hornet rt and its not safe to drive with defective camera that they say the dealer ship cant fix at all and won't fix it
POWER TRAIN (2 complaints)
POWER TRAIN
2 complaintsWhile in reverse vehicle automatically switched to drive forward mode and then reverse mode and kept alternating where the car would drive forward and reverse back on its own without the gas pedal pressed. The transmission was in reverse the entire time. Also, the vehicle keeps having electrical issues throughout the car, has been in repair for over 15 days combined. The electrical system reboots while the vehicle is turned on and the battery does not charge, instead it throws a fault. Have a video that was provided to the dealership with the reverse issue. Cant upload since it is not an accepted file type.
We had a sudden heavy wet snow that accumulated a couple inches on the roadway. This made the roadway very slippery. The vehicle could not be driven safely. Upon lifting my foot off the gas pedal, the rear wheels would enter regenerative braking and cause the rear wheels to skid (no matter the drive mode or speed down to less than 5 mph), leading to fishtailing and no ability to control the vehicle. The only way to operate the vehicle without extreme risk was to immediately put the vehicle in neutral as I lifted my foot off of the gas pedal to decelerate or when going down hill. Otherwise you would immediately go into an uncontrollable skid. I researched the problem extensively. There is no way to disable the regenerative braking. With the design of this vehicle, if you cannot disable regenerative braking for slippery conditions, the vehicle cannot be safely operated. This vehicle cannot be safely driven on winter roadways. Dodge should add the ability to turn off regenerative braking. Lives are at risk. I queried Grok AI and it explains the problem and lack of a resolution quite well. Question: Is there a way to turn off the regenerative braking on a 2024 Dodge Hornet R/T Plus plug in hybrid to allow for safe driving on slippery roads? Answer: The 2024 Dodge Hornet R/T Plus is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) based on the Alfa Romeo Tonale platform, featuring regenerative braking as a standard part of its hybrid system. This recaptures energy during deceleration to recharge the battery. From official Dodge sources, reviews, and owner discussions, there is no user-selectable option to completely turn off or disable regenerative braking in the Hornet R/T PHEV. It is integrated into the powertrain and operates variably depending on the drive mode. No sources indicate a hidden way to fully disable regen without aftermarket modifications (which could void warranty or affect safety systems). The design prioritizes efficiency and performance over a full "off" switch.
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE (2 complaints)
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
2 complaintsSince delivery, the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system intermittently fails without warning while in motion. The system frequently displays an "Unavailable" message, particularly during stop-and-go traffic at speeds around 20 mph. This sudden deactivation occurs with no prior audible or visual alert, leaving the driver with dangerously limited time to manually intervene and avoid potential rear-end collisions. Attempted Repairs: The vehicle has been to the dealership service department multiple times for this specific issue. While technicians acknowledge the system failure and have documented the error, they stated there is currently no functional repair or software fix available from the manufacturer. The safety risk remains unresolved.
The contact rented a 2024 Dodge Hornet PHEV. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the message "Forward Collision Avoidance” was disabled and "SOS call failed" were displayed. The contact stated that the failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the failure was not duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 8,000. The VIN was not available.

2 complaintsWhile driving under normal conditions on September 15, 2025, the right front wheel rim detached from my Dodge 2025 Hornet UT ZACNDFAN7R3A14662. The detached rim struck and dented the right front door, and I was forced to purchase a replacement rim. This vehicle is still under warranty. A wheel rim separating from the vehicle is a serious safety defect that could cause loss of control, property damage, or injury. I am requesting that this be investigated as a potential recall issue.
1. Dealer failed to repair hood latch when part broke. Hard to access hood secondary release latch in an emergency. 2. Recurring Trunk release latch issue. Trunk will not fully close when in operation.

The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 3,000. The VIN was not available.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores
Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.
Key Ranking Factors
Complaint Severity
NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.
Repair Costs
Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.
Recall Impact
Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.
Issue Diversity
Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.
Scores are grouped into four tiers:
- 80–100: Excellent— Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
- 60–79: Good— Reliable with some minor concerns
- 40–59: Mixed— Notable issues, research before buying
- 0–39: Risky— Significant problems, proceed with caution
Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
Get notified when new recalls or reliability data is added for the Dodge Hornet.
