WHEELS

2 complaintsSafety-related

Owners report issues with the wheels of the 2019 Porsche Macan, primarily involving vehicle control and wheel performance. One complaint describes the vehicle veering side to side at speeds above 60 mph, which persisted even after an alignment and was attributed to tire defects. Another incident involves a crash where a front wheel locked while the vehicle was traveling under 30 mph, resulting in a rollover. The issues appear at low mileage, with one report noting a failure at just 70 miles. Safety implications are significant, with one complaint involving a crash due to wheel malfunction.

2 complaints total1 crash

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

2 complaints

Owners of the 2019 Porsche Macan report two main issues in the unknown or other category. Firstly, they note that the vehicle's speedometer can display a speed up to six percent higher than the actual speed, with Porsche acknowledging this but stating it is within legal limits. Secondly, there are reports of the vehicle intermittently reversing when set to drive, particularly when transitioning from park on flat surfaces. This reversing issue has been difficult for dealers to replicate and diagnose due to its intermittent nature, and it has resulted in near-accidents, raising potential safety concerns. No specific mileage or timeline patterns are evident from the complaints.

2 complaints total

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

2 complaints

Owners report issues with the right headlight assembly on the 2019 Porsche Macan, specifically affecting the passenger side. Complaints frequently mention the failure of the low beam light without any prior warning or dashboard alert, although daytime running lights (DLR) continue to function properly. This defect is noted to be costly to repair, leading some owners to delay addressing the problem, which could pose a safety risk due to impaired nighttime visibility. No specific mileage or time frame is consistently noted in the complaints, but the problem is described as common among vehicles of this model year.

THE SMALL PORTABLE AIR PUMP THAT CAME WITH THE CAR WOULD BLOW THE FUSE TO THE CIGARETTE 12 V OUTLET ON ABOUT EVERY THIRD OR FOURTH USE. THIS WOULD HAPPEN EACH TIME AFTER YOU PUT IN A NEW 20AMP FUSE. I CAN'T TELL WHETHER THIS IS CAUSED BY THE AIR PUMP OR THE CIRCUITRY ON THE CAR. I HAVE GONE THROUGH FIVE FUSES ALREADY.

THE ISSUE IS THE SQUEAKING OF THE REAR BRAKES WHEN BACKING UP. THE WOULD HAPPEN WHEN THE CAR HAD BEEN DRIVEN. THIS HAPPENS IN COLD OR HOT WEATHER. A FACTORY DEALERSHIP HAD LOOK AT THE ISSUE BUT FOUND NOTHING. THIS PROBLEM STARTED WHEN THE CAR WAS ABOUT TWO TO THREE MONTHS OLD. I ALSO HAVE A 2020 AUDI Q7, AND IT HAS ALMOST THE SAME ISSUE WHEN BACKING UP. HOWEVER, IT DOES MORE IN THE MORNING WHETHER THE WEATHER IS HOT OR COLD. WE VISITED AN AUDI DEALERSHIP BUT THEY FOUND NOTHING. A SEPARATE COMPLAINT HAD BEEN FILED UNDER MY NAME AS WELL. BOTH CARS HAVE THE SAME 3.0L V6 ENGINE.

On Sunday June 5, 2022, I had to remove my 2019 Porsche Macan S right rear tire because it had a screw in it. I ahd to do it that day because its leaking had increased and it went totally flat, while I had been waiting many days for my purchased tire and road hazard service. I removed the tire and put in a temporary plug so it could be taken to the servicing dealer, Porsche Silver Spring, MD, on Tuesday June 7, 2022. While I was doing this work, the right rear jack lift point on the car failed and moved sideways towards the inboard of the car, allowing the jack to move under the car. Fortunately I was able to get the tire back on, but the car fell onto the jack and was damaged. The trim pieces and right rear door were damaged. I have pictures of the damage and the failed jack point. I was using the Porsche supplied jack and at all times followed all Porsche directions from the Porsche supplied “Good To Know” app, to the letter. On June 8, 2020 the dealership contacted me and confirmed that the jack point had failed and required replacement. They are also obtained an estimate of the cost to repair the damage to my vehicle caused by the jack point failure. I was very lucky not to have been injured. I believe this is a serious safety problem. I will provide more information upon request, including pictures. I was unable to load the pictures from my cell phone on this report.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent — Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good — Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed — Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky — Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
