ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

3 complaints

Owners report recurring issues with the electrical system in the 2025 KIA Seltos, primarily involving the instrument cluster failing to illuminate upon ignition, especially in cold weather. Complaints frequently mention that this problem leaves the speedometer, tachometer, and fuel gauge unreadable, with some owners needing to restart the vehicle to resolve the issue temporarily. Another reported problem includes the dash control lights and headlights going dim or out, which poses safety risks during nighttime driving. These issues are noted to begin as early as 1,200 miles and persist despite dealership visits, with some owners indicating the problem is recognized but unresolved by KIA. The inability to monitor vehicle speed and fuel levels, combined with dimming headlights, can significantly impact driving safety.

3 complaints total

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

2 complaints

Owners of the 2025 KIA Seltos report two distinct issues. One complaint describes an unexpected system update while driving, leading to a complete loss of engine power and electrical systems, which could pose significant safety risks, especially at high speeds. Another owner reports a sudden appearance of a crack on the vehicle while it was parked, with no prior indication of damage. These issues are reported without specific mileage, and the safety implications of the power loss during driving are particularly concerning for potential buyers.

2 complaints total

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

2 complaints

Owners of the 2025 KIA Seltos report issues with the vehicle's exterior lighting, particularly the headlights. Complaints frequently mention that the low beam headlights project a dull yellowish light that inadequately illuminates road signs and the road itself, making it difficult to see beyond 15-20 feet. Additionally, switching to high beams does not improve visibility, as they fail to provide increased illumination. These lighting issues are described as occurring during nighttime driving, which poses safety concerns due to reduced visibility of road signs and potential obstructions. Buyers should be aware that these issues may require aftermarket solutions, as dealership adjustments have not resolved the problem for some owners.

The camber bolts in front struts moved from original location causing uneven tire wear and steering issues. When replacing tires mechanic showed me marks where bolts were originally and where they are now. Mechanic said he has seen multiple of same vehicles with the same issue. Mechanic said most likely poor roads and improperly torque of bolts is causing the issue with this make and model. Caught issue just in time tires were down to threads and wouldn't of lasted much longer. A blowout on a front steer tire would most likely cause an accident or rollover.

The contact owns a 2025 Kia Seltos. The contact stated that while driving in snowy, inclement weather; the entire rear end of the vehicle would become covered in snow. The contact stated snow would become to heavy for the rear windshield wiper which would obstruct his vision while driving in the snow. In addition, the contact stated that the rear tail lights would also become covered in snow which made it difficult for fellow motorist to see his tail lights. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and suggested that the contact purchase an aftermarket spoiler. The contact was also given a case number. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 8,000.

SERVICE BRAKES (1 complaints)

SERVICE BRAKES

1 complaintSafety-related
2025-07-12Crash reported

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The braking system appears to have failed. When I attempted to slow down for a stop sign, the brake pedal went straight to the floor and did not respond as expected. I began pumping the brakes out of panic, but they only engaged at the last moment—approximately one foot or less from the vehicle in front of me. The vehicle is currently totaled, but I believe the braking system could still be inspected upon request, pending insurance and tow yard access. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? My safety was significantly at risk. I had no control over stopping the vehicle despite repeated brake attempts. To avoid a direct collision, I was forced to swerve at the last second, hitting the rear edge of the truck ahead and deploying my airbag. Had I not swerved, the impact could have been more severe and potentially endangered the other driver. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Not yet. My insurance is working to determine whether an inspection is possible due to the extent of the damage. I intend to have the braking system inspected to confirm the failure if it can be safely accessed. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? The accident has been reported to my insurance, and they are aware that I believe the brakes failed. I’m waiting to hear whether an inspection by their representatives or a third party will be conducted. To my knowledge, the manufacturer has not inspected the vehicle. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No brake-related warning lights or messages appeared before or during the failure. However, the forward collision alert did pop up—but it only appeared a couple of seconds before the impact, far too late to help avoid.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent— Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good— Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed— Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky— Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.

Get notified when new recalls or reliability data is added for the KIA Seltos.
