2025 Kia K5 Common Problems by Component
29 owner complaints grouped by vehicle system.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
5 complaintsOwners of the 2025 Kia K5 frequently report experiencing electrical system failures, particularly involving the sudden loss of headlights, dashboard indicators, and infotainment systems while driving. These issues often occur without warning and can last for a brief moment, though some owners have experienced repeated occurrences over a period of more than a year. Some complaints also describe electrical anomalies such as lights becoming excessively bright and persistent battery drain issues, even after battery replacement. The reported mileage at which these issues occur varies, with one case noting the problem persisting around 24,000 miles. Safety implications are noted, particularly concerning the temporary loss of headlights at night, which poses a risk of reduced visibility and potential collisions.
TIRES
5 complaintsOwners report several issues with the tires on the 2025 Kia K5, primarily involving tire bulges and blowouts. Complaints frequently mention tire bulges appearing on the sidewalls, often described as the size of a golf ball or larger, and these issues often occur at low mileages, typically between 2,500 and 11,400 miles. Symptoms include the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) warning light illuminating and audible shaking or vibrations while driving. There are safety implications, as multiple owners describe incidents where tires have blown out or required immediate replacement to prevent blowouts, posing a risk of loss of control. Buyers should be aware of these tire issues when considering a used 2025 Kia K5, particularly those with Pirelli tires.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER
4 complaintsOwners report several distinct issues with the 2025 Kia K5. One common problem involves the seat belt assembly, where the belt becomes stuck and requires replacement. Another frequent complaint is related to the unavailability of parts needed to address a recall regarding back window trim, with delays extending beyond the promised timeline. Additionally, multiple owners describe a distracting Driver Attention Warning system that activates more frequently than specified, causing driver distraction and potential safety risks. Lastly, there are reports of the GPS system inaccurately identifying the car's location, leading to unintended speed reductions. These issues appear across various mileage ranges, and some have potential safety implications, such as driver distraction and loss of vehicle control.
POWER TRAIN (4 complaints)
POWER TRAIN
4 complaintsOwners report frequent issues with the 2025 Kia K5's power train, particularly hard shifting at low speeds. Complaints commonly describe an extremely hard, head-jerking shift during the first drive of the day, especially after the vehicle has been parked for an extended period. This issue typically resolves once the vehicle has warmed up. The problem is noted to occur in vehicles with mileage ranging from the initial 0 miles up to approximately 3000 miles. In addition, one owner describes a failure to shift gears while accelerating, leading to a near-miss incident, and another reports a complete power loss while driving at 40 mph, though the vehicle restarted shortly after. These issues have led to two reported injuries, highlighting potential safety implications for prospective buyers.
VISIBILITY/WIPER (2 complaints)
VISIBILITY/WIPER
2 complaintsOwners report two distinct visibility issues with the 2025 Kia K5. The first involves the panoramic sunroof shattering without any apparent impact, described as a loud noise similar to a gunshot, with the glass breaking upward and collapsing into small pieces. The second issue involves intermittent windshield wiper failure, where the wipers do not activate during rain or when using the sprayer function. This problem is noted in a vehicle with less than 10,000 miles and has resulted in visibility obstruction. Both issues pose safety implications, with potential for injury from falling glass and reduced visibility during adverse weather conditions.
WHEELS (2 complaints)
WHEELS
2 complaintsOwners of the 2025 Kia K5 report issues related to the wheels, particularly with OEM Pirelli tires and the TPMS system. One owner describes a tire blowout at 55 mph with no visible puncture, occurring at approximately 6,500 miles, which could indicate a potential safety concern due to the sudden nature of the failure. Another owner reports repeated malfunctions of the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), with the warning light reappearing at around 3,125 miles after an initial repair. These complaints highlight possible reliability issues with both tire integrity and TPMS functionality, which prospective buyers may want to consider.
AIR BAGS (2 complaints)
AIR BAGS
2 complaintsSafety-relatedOwners of the 2025 Kia K5 report issues with airbag deployment, particularly in crash situations. One complaint describes a collision with a cow where no airbags deployed despite significant impact to the front driver's side, suggesting a potential failure in the airbag system. Another owner involved in an accident reports experiencing prior vehicle malfunctions such as screen reboots and temporary power loss, though the connection to the airbag system is not directly stated. Both complaints involve crashes, and one reports an injury, highlighting potential safety implications for prospective buyers. No specific mileage is mentioned, but the incidents suggest concerns with crash-related safety features.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores
Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.
Key Ranking Factors
Complaint Severity
NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.
Repair Costs
Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.
Recall Impact
Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.
Issue Diversity
Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.
Scores are grouped into four tiers:
- 80–100: Excellent — Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
- 60–79: Good — Reliable with some minor concerns
- 40–59: Mixed — Notable issues, research before buying
- 0–39: Risky — Significant problems, proceed with caution
Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
