Should You Buy the 2022 Genesis G80?

Owners filed six complaints, and screens are the theme. Digital displays go blank between 500 and 1,200 miles. In one case the right side of the gauge panel stays dark at startup, hiding speed, rpm, and fuel level. In another, the center screen goes dark about 20 seconds after a lane change assist warning, every day. Dealers found no cause. One owner reported the transmission dropping to third gear while passing and not upshifting. Federal records list four recalls: three for the gasoline fuel system and one for seat belts.
Ask for proof that all four recalls were completed. Test the screens and gauges on a cold start, and look for repair visits where a dealer could not reproduce a display fault.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2022-2023 Genesis GV70, GV80, G80, and G90 vehicles. The fuel pump may fail, which can result in a loss of drive power.
Consequence
A loss of drive power can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and replace the fuel pump assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 7, 2024. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 022G. This recall is an expansion of recall number 23V-630.

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Genesis G80, GV80, and 2022 Genesis GV70 vehicles. The fuel pump may fail, which can result in a loss of drive power.
Consequence
A loss of drive power can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the fuel pump, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 8, 2023. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 016G.
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
Hyundai Motor America (Genesis) is recalling certain Genesis 2022-2026 GV70, 2023-2025 G90, 2021-2025 G80, and GV80 vehicles. Fuel may leak at the pipe connection between the fuel pipe and fuel rail.
Consequence
A fuel leak increases the risk of a fire.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and tighten, or replace the fuel pipe as necessary, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters explaining the safety risk mailed June 3, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy becomes available. Owners may contact Genesis customer service at 844-340-9741. Genesis' number for this recall is 033G. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning April 11, 2026.

In one pattern, a "Check Lane Change Assist Function" warning appears and the screen goes dark about 20 seconds later, every day, starting before 500 miles. Since that screen runs more than navigation, the car loses other controls too. Other reports describe navigation freezing, a speed limit readout that does not match posted signs, and a driver seat module that still works only sometimes after being replaced. Dealers have not found a cause. One owner worries about fire, but no fire is reported.

The contact received a notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V282000 (fuel system, gasoline)The contact stated that after the recall repair was completed, there was a fuel odor. The contact then drove the vehicle at 30 mph to a nearby gas station, to fill up the gasoline tank. A week later, the local dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the smell may persist for a week or two. The smell and gas leak failure persisted. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was driven again to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The dealer acknowledges the smell. The vehicle was repaired again and sealed with O-rings. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The failure mileage was approximately 10,636.

1 complaintI purchased my car in 1/2022. Starting 4/23/2022 through 10/27/2022 the CAR ALARM has activated itself approximately 100 times. Usually the key fob can stop the alarm, but several times the vehicle must be driven away or moved to stop the alarm sound. I took the car to the dealer on or about 4/12/2022 to search for the problem. After 1 week, the dealer advised it found no problem, but replaced a rear sensor and returned the car on 4/19. On 4/23/2022 the alarm problem began again. After my local Irvine, CA dealer refused to take the car back for repairs, on 5/16 I made a written complaint to Hyundai Claims. Since then, the alarm has activated without cause repeatedly. On 9/2/2022 with Claims approval, I left my car with Cerritos Genesis. On 9/15/2022, my LOANER G80 alarm activated itself without cause. On 9/23/2022 I picked up my car, after the dealer reported it found no problem. On 10/27/2022 the alarm reactivated itself twice, before I moved the car out of my hearing.
